A top-level security meeting in Renyn. Instability in Caldari Funds Unlimited and the other corporations. Something rotten is afoot in the State of Caldari. How will Executor Tibus Heth respond?
"Chasing Shadows" is a new EVE Chronicle written by CCP Gnauton.

Conspiracy between the two top brass?
I'd like to think that northern empire warfare took another twist.
From the battlefields (battleskies?) to the subtlety of assault economics and intelligence/counterintelligence treason. The kind of shift in fight focus I'd expect from Roden: if you can't beat them with raw firepower (as Foiritan tried to), unbolt their hulls while they aren't watching... --- Kat |

Yes, it is.
Nice story. It portrays very well Heth's limitations. I suspect he hasn't heard from the person who put him in power (the Broker) for some time. And as as far as I can tell from the fiction centred on him Tibus Heth is not a very subtle person.
Roden, on the other hand, is a veteran of Gallente and wider cluster corporate conflict. I know who my money would be on. Regards,

The stories starts to get apart more and more.
In one Heth is about to clean out the system and in another he misses obvious things. Caldari accessed insane ammount of wealth from ocupping gallente systems and then they magicaly loose it only couse Intaki Prime is occupied again by gallente?
I understand that each story favours some race to keep interest of players for theirs race lore but not for the sake of breaking continuity.
If caldari regime is corrupt and Heth didnt made any changes at all and all goes down it should be explored and not just that other story brings different results. |

I'm not quite sure about what the Chronicle means even though I read it a couple times. Does it mean that the Caldari and Gallente are going to go into an all out war again? Can someone explain please?

Hmmm all out war makes me hope the Amarr join in on the "beat the Gallente up" effort. Well guess it will be time for me to polish up my Apoc and get her in running order. Don't want to be caught off guard with dull unshiny armor plates after all. Really all I want to see is massive fleet of Caldari and Gallente navies slugging it out. Prefferably NPC fleets, massive NPC fleets.

The way I understood it Caldari megacorps borrowed immennse amount to exploit resources on gallente low sec worlds......they never got to much gains as not only Intaki prime but 41 other systems were retaken by gallente.
Whether this is the only casue of recent financial turmoil I dont know. It seems that Roden is causing problems or trying to give the impression that he is to have Heth overreact and cause interal discord amoungst Provists and megacorps.

Mr Roden has a scheme to make the Caldari **** up. Roden knows corporate powerplay. If the Caldari ever had a Federation president to worry about it would be Roden, as he knows how the Caldari State leadership thinks and can play them like a fiddle.
I think this is where it is leading. The Federation has a President who knows how to hit the Caldari State where it matters most. That being the Megacorporations themselves.

The man on the other side of the room in Tibus Heths meeting is the Broker who is obviously playing both sides. Roden is going to use the instability to his advantage, maybe to secure his presidency. Caldari seems to have had its time.

Wasn't the Broker out of clones and out of luck by the end of Empyrean Age? I think it's just Heth's advisor.
P.S. Everything Gnauton touches turns to gold, more chrons from him and the lesser-known CCP writers pl0x.

It is a major cause of it. Add to this the Caldari-Amarr Economic Agreement, where the State's independent banks owe the Empire money and you have a situation requiring careful handling by the most skilled and experienced executives.
Heth is actively working to remove these very people from positions of authority and action. Blaming mistakes he forced on the State on others.

Roden & the Federation could do nothing and Heth would likely be getting paranoid of all those with actual skill and the position to use it. This is Stalin purging the upper ranks of the Soviet Union to remove generals and managers with talent, charisma, and resources to become an internal rival.
In my view the current storyline leads one of two places:
1) Heth continues to consolidate power in the State. The sovereign powers of the megacorporation's are trampled upon. The story establishes the State as the Neo-Facist regime so many believe it to be. This helps to cement a Red vs Blue conflict between the Federation & State, Democracy vs Fascism, WWII.
2) Heth attempts to consolidate power and the backlash from the other megacorporations is wide reaching. Even the two other patriot megas work to isolate Heth & KK as Heth attempts to dictate the megas' operations, policies, etc. A civil war occurs in which Heth is removed from power and KK's overall power is severely reduced. The State's megacorporations continue to in fight, while the broken Patriots continue to fight the Fed in Black Rise.
I am personally a fan of option #2. Heth failing.

**POSSIBLE EMPYREAN AGE SPOILER**
I read the Empyrean Age novel and suspected that the broker was the Jove who died at the end of the novel?
...so no, I don't think Heth's heard from the Broker for a while

Very good chronicle as usual, love the shadow power play. I think I am beginning to like this new galente leadership.
Anybody know what is going on with Blaque?

First, it was the Corporation profile on the main page.
second, There was a scope article about economic turbulence on the horizon.
Third, there is a chronicle on economic instability.
I do believe that president Roden is going for the economic victory instead of a direct military victory! Sly bastard!
Now the question remains whether the empress will bail the caldari out once again? Judging from the friendly correspondence between her and Roden, I don't think she will! ROFL

I'm noticing that many people are thinking Heth will fail and Roden will be the ultimate ass kicker or what ever, but what im wondering is if Heth gets kicked to the curb, who will take his place? I'm guessing that something big is going to happen and it won't go out quietly. While I don't think that the Ammar Empress will tried to step on Roden's plans against the Caldari, i don't think she will sit aside and completely abandon the Caldari.
I'm thinking that Tyrannis is not going to just be about the players owning planets. Judging by the fact that the scorpion is getting remodeled I'm wondering if it will be because of a large shift in power in the Caldari state instead of just pretending that the scorpion never changed.

No one and that is the point. Even the national level leadership of the State used to be an entity - the CEP - not an individual (no President, no Emperor, no Prime Minister). It was a council of representatives from Eight very powerful corporations all with their own agendas. Only when those agendas aligned did the State as a whole act.
Two years ago this was partially replaced in the PF with the position of "Executor" - held and created by Tibus Heth. One man was given the reins of power in a system that was not designed for it.

Eve lore is something I am fascinated by and do my best to keep up with. From what I have read so far this seems to be one of the best chronicles I have read and most of them are excellent which says a lot. ----------------------------------------
