Theyre getting out of hand. I have a few ideas to limit them.
-The 'I have this much ISK and ill send you double what you send me' scam. Most of these guys are less than a day old characters so why can day old characters cake contracts? What could they possibly have thats worth contracting if they realy ARE a day old character starting off in eve.
- The long famed Mistaken identity scam where the description says one thing but the contact itself tells a different story.
Just as the CCP did with the ISK farmers selling ISK with the 'report ISK spammer', why not do the same with EVERYONE with an open contract? Have the same right click tab open up and say 'report Scammer'. If enough people do this , say about 50 to 100 report the person, he can no longer create his own description for his own contracts
As we can all agree, so much as PASSING through jita has been made into a one way ticket to literaly filling your local chat window to the brim with almost pure scams. Who knows, if CCP takes both of these ideas into effect, maby the jita population will fall, Inevitably leading to a safer trip through the system Obviously there will be flaws with these means od reducing scams, but its nothing the right ammount of minds working together to fix them can handle

If you falsely report people as isk spammers you risk getting banned yourself since the report thing can result in people getting banned that aren't isk spammers.
Please, use it often, I'd love to see the results.
You do realize scamming is allowed in this game right?

Edited by: Mister LEM0NS on 06/04/2010 17:11:34 nullnullOnce again, i have said that there will be flaws. Whether it is something that will take into effect is up to the players. But we risk the whole banning yourself thing just reporting isk farmers. And the result of a false report wouldnt be that drastic anyway. It would have to be something JUST bad enough to make it not even worth it to falsely accuse someone such as a kickoff peroid (maby banned for 24 hours) if not enough people also report the person in a predetermined ammout of time. Once again though, it is a concept. And these are 2 concepts. What could be wrong with the first one anyway?

scamming is fine, but is what happens in Jita really scamming?
'cause it looks more like they've got a macro setup that just spams local 24/7 with fake contracts and the infamous double-your-isk.

Exactly! thats another thing, only post a contract once every minute or so? Even that would make it a tad easier to withstand the barrage of bull in the jita local.

I agree that scamming is permitted as a game mechanic, but what's occurring in Jita is a nuisance. I can't remember the last time I even bother to look at local in Jita - hell, they scroll so fast it's not like I could read it anyway.
The whole chat/local system needs to be overhauled anyway - and I see this as a limitation of that system more than anything else.

Lol, yeh though I'm pretty sure macro mining is "Forbidden" and where has that got us? Ice belts are pretty much nearly all macro miners most mining systems have them 23/7 and they're still there months later. Perhaps they should do something more than "Forbid"
All in all, allowing scamming is a little gay. It seems its easier to allow it then to police it. Obviously there has to be a little chlorine in the gene pool to filter out the idiots who fall for the scams. Though I really think there should be some limit on the amount of contracts you can spam into local.

Edited by: Zartrader on 06/04/2010 19:15:54 Why does anyone care about Jita local and scamming? No need to use local is there? I go there to trade, not chat, and there's a little button called 'minimizee' to close the window. If I'm bored I might even read them for entertainment value but no one is forcing me to. Anyway scamming is a core feature of EVE, always has been. Knowing that makes them very easy to avoid and they do not affect me in the slightest, unlike macro miners which do.

Besides, I've never fallen for one, even when I first started playing a few months back and was more noobier than I still am, never fell for one.
They're all so obvious. I remember tons of people telling me about elaborate contract scams, cutthroats who want to take your money, etc.
Do you know what those elaborate contract scams turned out to be?

Dear Sir/ Madam SAVE OUR SOUL With deep sense of frustration and desperation I have decided to reach out to the world for help and that is what this letter is all about. I am VanNostrum the third son of Late General Sani Abarra, Caldari former Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, has been captive since 8th June, 2006.
Owing to allegations of financial misappropriations levelled against my father, the immediate past Military Government of Gen. Haakla Pandaaru freeze all traceable local and foreign bank accounts in the family's name and also seized our vast estates together with other fixed assets of my family. My mother is still under house arrest since June last year and my elder brother Jima is currently in detention being prosecuted by the incumbent democratic government charged with series of allegations.
I consider you reputable and trustworthy enough to assist me in receiving the sum of 27b ISK (Twenty Seven Billion Interstellar Kredits) in cash in Kourmone which was not detected by the security operatives, that was stashed by my father in one of our private luxury pads. It has become obvious that if immediate action is not taken our family will be ruined forever by this hideous administration. I have equally agreed in principle to offer you 25% of the fund for your services. The evacuation of the fund is not a problem, I desperately require your candid assistance to act as the Trustee of the fund in your personal or corporate name with a valid bank account in Jita or Amarr. Should you be interested send 192m ISK to this account for my father's bailout and contact me immediately. Regards,
VanNostrum

Dear mr.Lemons
Please stop posting ever again.
Ive come across few of your posts when reading forums in past few months, and they all are whining uber-c.r.a.p
I mean there are people who whine about this and about, and sometimes propose their own solutions.
But your whining and solutions are just plain stupid. Idk if i remmember correctly but i think you are the guy who proposed for eve to reward players who are more hours a day online..etc (dont remmember correctly if you are that guy :P
you whined that eve is too expensive to pay.. you whined about this and about that And now you whine about scammers.
When i click to open a post about scamming i expect to find a funny story how some guy lost all his isk and not your non-intelligent stuff...
So...scammers are part of eve, and i like it although i am not a scammer myself. Eve is not too expensive. And for all your other posts also NO.
My advice to you is: Find a life, go take a stroll (its nice sunny outside, spring finnaly came :D ) and go play wow if you like, eve will NEVER became wow or some c.r.a.p like that, and make your peace with it.
GTFO and stop posting.
And also..contact me if you want to buy ravven navy for only 300M. Get it until my stock runs dry... :D |

What gets up my nose is people who think "scamming is allowed in EVE" is a reasonable argument in defence of the kind of crap the OP is on about. Yes, scamming is allowed in EVE, which is SUPPOSED to mean that if you're clever enough to trick someone out of their money, you're allowed to keep it. It defends the actions of the Guiding Hands Social Club and other organizations of their ilk which couldn't exist in any other game. It really shouldn't be interpreted as a license to spam annoying and pointless bullcrap that only the dumbest or most naive player would fall for- that's not scamming, it's spamming. This is EVE Online, the smartest and most hardcore MMORPG ever made, which sneers at WoW and other weak-ass wannabes, not bloody 4chan!
And even considering the dumb and naive that fall for these scams- so what? You think these scammers are doing you some kind of service by "weeding these players out"? Like hell. And naive players, who are naive because they just started the game, what are they getting from this? You could say they're learning an important lesson about not falling for stupid bullcrap- but what are they actually learning here? What do you learn from slamming your hand in a car door? You learn not to slam your hand in a car door. That's not the same as learning to drive.
And it IS annoying. When I'm perusing the battleship contracts, for example, I can't help but notice that up to a solid THIRD of them are scams, and utterly stupid scams too. Honestly, WTB State Issue Raven for 500 isk? Do these morons even know how rare a State Issue Raven is? And do they really think the precious few who DO manage to get their hands on one would be stupid enough to casually sell it off with a few clicks of the mouse without even giving the contract more than the most cursory of glances? It is, plainly and simply, nothing more than a complete waste of space and makes wading through the contracts pages akin to scrabbling in a toilet for a coin. Anyone who tries to defend such pure and undiluted IDIOCY is doing nothing more than trying to make themselves feel hardcore by insisting they're playing a game where "look, you can scam people freely! AWESOME!" Grow up.

The problem is not the scam-contract, the problem is that makro/spambot setup which advertises the contract in local every minute. With an average of 750 players in jita and the "advertising maschine" running 23/7 chances are high someone will fall for it. Without the makro you would not even have that ammount of scam contracts cause nobody would sit in jita hitting ctrl+v every minute in order to get attention for his contract.

And this just raises the question: why are you looking at these contracts in a way that even makes the scam contracts show up? They're trivially easy to filter out and even to make such a filter standard. There is quite literally no reason to ever see a scam contract other than by active choice.
