Hey guys,
So working on my skill plan, and I am trying to figure out what ship I want to work on getting. I know carriers are great for Support and Logistics, while the dread is great for POS bashing and make some battleship smashing. I am not sure which way the Nix goes, since it looks like a decent dps ship while still focusing on logistics.
I was looking for advice as to how the Gallente carrier/dread stack up against the other races, and what practical uses do these ships have.

Well... if you can fly a Thanatos well you can probabably fly a Nyx after training up for Fighter Bombers. Moros is a bit of a different ship as it requires turret skills rather than drones and remote reps (though you'll definitely want drones for the Moros even if it's not required to fly one).
If I remember correctly, getting into a Dreadnought is easier (and cheaper) than flying a carrier.

Carriers are a couple hundred million cheaper then Dreads and can be used for logi pruposes almost from the get go, moving around ships and items for example. Dreads are a specific use ship. Carrier is much more useful IMO and can get by with just the hull and some basic mods if needed.

Not really, take out the skills that both need, you pay about 600+ mill for the carrier skills, and only 130 or so for dread skills.
And even though the dread Hull is more expensive than a carrier, most of that is insured. Your 180-220mill worth of fighters is NOT.
EDIT: Fighters are way cheaper than they used to be. Oh no you don't! Incoming witty reply, ETA: 300 seconds! |

Get a carier, you'll get a lot more use out of it especially considdering that you can use it to move riged ships.
I would advise against a nyx unless you have a dedicated alt to hold it for you, or you're happy for you're character to be stuck in a ship that you'll hardly ever use till you lose or sell it.

The right answer is train from Amarr capitals. But the reality is as others have said, carriers will be more useful. However, if you are in an active 0.0 alliance that regularly engages in pos sieges, a dread will be very useful to you and your corp/alliance.
Unfortunately, CCP has broken large fleet battles and thus, many 0.0s chose to avoid them outright rather than risk multiple billions in assets to black screens.
So the real right answer is to just avoid caps all together until CCP can fix the lag issue.
