My casual playstyle is the exact reason for me to love EVE even more then i already did. Within EVE its possible for me to play for one or two hours one week and 5-10 the next week.

I lived in 0.0 for years with my old main and old alts, nowadays I'll just enjoy couple missions daily, sometimes some solo pvp in lowsec.
Yes, you can play EVE as casual player, and to be honest... EVE is much more enjoyable game when you don't take it too seriously

Casually there's a lot of the game inaccessible to you. You either grind or pvp. There's really nothing else. Your grind versus pvp factor will be 3 to 1 or more depending.
Um...nope.

As someone said earlier, once you can do level 4 missions your set for causal play as PVP can be very cheap. The real key to it for me, as others have said, is I do a bit of inventing and selling, dead easy and makes nice almost passive income. Sometimes I get lucky and make a ton of ISK but the minimum is good income. I've not even tried to do it seriously yet.

heh, I like to log in shoot some stuff log out. seems to work pretty well for small gang piracy.
lately I've been doing some afk missions in the ishtar. with some suicide ganks on the side.
however I probably put in more than "casual" hours. but I'd probably play the same way if I had less time.

If Red vs Blue is still going then that's also a casual way of getting some pew pew. _____________________

EVE is probably THE game for casual play. You can still be at the top in several branches of the game with very few hours invested per week.

Heck you can log on for 10 mins and have a very productive day if you know what you are doing. __________

Originally by: Marko Riva Yes easily, partly because you don't have to grind levels and mostly because, it being a sandbox, you can do what you want. The only thing that will be difficult for is is when you PVP and chose to make your isk with grinding, you simply won't have enough time to do both but there's many other ways to make cash where you can easily stay away for a few days and come back to some iskies (research, production, trading).
If you're capable of not being stupid you'll do just fine.
Yeah, I spend a good month or two making money (maybe 7 or 8 hours a week, if at all), then I earn 3 or 4 trips to pew pew :(

One of the best parts of this game is that you can train without having to play. Before I packed up my computer to move, I knew I would be offline for several weeks, so set a good training queue for the duration.
Internet access did not come soon enough, but I was able to log on temporarily several times to wireless networks and up the queue. I have still no time to play; maybe a couple of hours total since February. Lots of skill points at least.
Casual play can be fun and exciting (it can also be dangerous), but it depends on how you play. I find that having nowhere in particular to go and nothing in particular to do is best. That's freedom. If you are efficient, you can log in, probe out a site, smack 'em and stack 'em and be done in the same time it takes to rot your brain with an episode if Idol plus nightly news. Some ships can be set up, with good skills, to run a LVL 4 and salvage at the same time if ISK is your goal. Racking up ISK and skills for perhaps a later time when there comes more spare time is always a good investment. It's beats having to kill Defias by the dozens for some stupid blue item (you know what I refer to).
Exploration is a great form of casual play. It's not very predictable in ISK yield. It's feast or famine most of the time. You can hit a null sec radar site and earm 20M in 30 minutes, or spend a couple of weeks several wormholes deep in unknown space and no (good) way out. You can find an abandoned POS full of loot, or lose everything when that Sleeper BS one shots you.
You work alone, log out when you want, don't have to wait for anyone when you log in, and never know what your probes will find or what that next WH system will have. The limitations of these solo operations are also daunting. You will end up in null sec pockets dozens of jumps from home, ammo running low and drones held together with duct tape. But you will be actually playing the game staying alive and finding your way. It's not always about Blob-Gank-Profit(?).
EvE Online hates and despises lone wolves. But in so doing, created a game where playing it that way is actually better than it would be if they intended for it. The KM addicts, griefers, and other kids stay where the action is for quick gratification, leaving the rest of EvE space open and free for those who like the game for what it is and are not afraid to do a little work.

it depends what you define as 'play'. Right now I'm treating eve as a trading sim with the simple goal of making more money, and that can be done very cassually - just a few hours a week. I also took part in and later maintained an alt in RvB for casual PVP for whenever and however long I felt like, so that aspect is also doable.
While it is possible, I don't think EVE is as enjoyable when played casually as when you're a bit more dedicated to it though. Corp life takes quite a bit of activity for a start, and the social networks of eve also require consistent effort to maintain, if you so desire.
If you can't beat Eris, join her, hmmm that sounded so much better in my head - Cortes Don't be greedy :P -Cap |

Well yes but I think that's true of all activities in life worth doing. But unlike many games (the unmentionable one for instance) you do not have to play much to get a lot out of it.
I saw the Ops question more as 'I have limited play time and does EVE still offer varied game play I can get involved in?' and the answer is definitely yes. That does not mean parts of the game won't be closed to him though. Other games can't make that claim.
In fact other games encourage grinding, alt levelling and tons of fluff to keep players interested and to get to the pre set goal of the end game. In fact one game was dumbed down massively because of this, wrecking the game for me. EVE does not have that issue which is why I stick with it. It's also why I resist others telling people how to play as it could then mean it does turn into one of those games where everything you do in the game is managed by the developers and there is no genuine choice.
As to needing more time to get more enjoyment, that is completely dependant on the person. I know I'd hate large corps and all that nul sec stuff that burns my hours. I have no interest in being part of a big fleet Op either. But I got a big kick out of doing a well planned trade today that paid off and took me all of 10 minutes.
