I'm sure that it's something ridiculously easy to answer to some of you veteran players, but I cannot seem to keep my chat channels stacked in a single window between sessions.
I've tried to 'pin' them in place, but all it does is tile them vertically whenever I log in. I've also tried guess-and-test my way through some of the in-game menu settings without any luck. All of my other UI elements (overview, wallet, hangar, etc.) seem to stay put between sessions, but the chat channels won't. Is there an *.ini file toggle setting, an in-game menu setting or something that I'm missing
I'm not sure if it matters, but the channels I've been trying to stack are "local", "corp" (newbie NPC corp) and "recruitment". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's a bug I think, I've had the same, but it didn't appear regularly enough for me to make a logserver file for it, like CCP requested when I reported the bug. If you can, attach it to a bug report, and I'm sure CCP (and me too) will be grateful.

It's a bug for sure. When I log in, my chat windows are unstacked. Usually when it happens they are cascaded but sometimes thrown to opposite screen corners. It doesn't happen all the time. I sent a petition weeks ago, but it still happens form time to time. I can restack them easily but it gets annoying to have to.

I do hope you mean a bug report? Petitions are not meant for bug reporting.
As I mentioned, they could use a bug report with a LogServer file attached.

A couple of weeks ago I switched to 1024x768 windowed mode on my laptop. I had is wider before. Now it seems my chatwindows unstack every time I open eve. Maybe I should try changing it back and see if that makes a difference. It has never happened on my gaming pc, as far as I remember.

I've gotten the same problem. Every time I'd log in they would be stacked vertically. Pinning worked once, but now it doesn't matter. It's only been happening since downtime 2 days ago or so.

I get this occasionally on 1 client -
I'm not sure what triggers it but
I have some chat windows stacked and local separate and sometime when I log in they are cascaded.
if my client crashes on exit from an earlier session then this can cause the problem to appear next time [though not 100% sure]
so i think it is a corrupt cache - clearing the cache has worked in the past though not everytime

Lately, this happens to me as well. All chat windows unstacked in a vertical row. Every single time I log in. Very annoying.

so light on this subject might be this. I have 2 accounts and i run them in different res so i have to change client res to match the character i'm running. I notice that every time i login to my 1280/960 client that it stacks the chat window on top of each other or they are all pinned on top of each other ungrouped. it only happens about 90% of the time. hope that helps some. ^^

I use junctions to have several different start icons for each character [and a couple of extra ones for different functions] each has their own cache also
so never have to re-assign things in game - though I still get the unstack problem occasionally

I had this problem also, plus a couple others.
In addition to the above, one of my accounts I could not get at the Hanger button when in station.
I reset my accounts by following the instructions found at
Character Stuck
after reading it all, I decided to totally clear and start my accounts fresh by doing only
Windows Vista 64bit: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP
and deleting everything.
IMPORTANT NOTE about the above. It CLEARS everything associated with your accounts - as if you had just done a scratch load of Eve.
Everything seems to be ok now!

If you were using all 3 computer before the last patch - you may have to use my above fix on all computer.
If anyone knows specifically what is wrong within the character account files, we would greatly appreciate the info so that we do not have to delete the directories and rebuild the character setups.

o/ yeh i got one accfount that splatters the chats all over when i log in, i just figured if thats the only thinkg i got to biatch about i am ahead compared to others.
