Did CCP actually waste Dev time on this "feature"?
Originally by: Tyrannis Feature page Tyrannis harnesses the visual cue capability of AlienFX-compatible DELL machines and keyboards. The multi-colored perimeter lighting will now pulse and change when triggered by critical game events including: * Low capacitor * Warp scrambling * Autopilot waypoints and destination * Cargo full * Cap recharge levels when in jump-capable ships
Lag and crap abound, but lets make some lights flash!

Of course that feature is listed just below the 'Need for Speed' initiative. But lets ignore that for the sake of emoraging.

Need for speed is fine and dandy, but you don't see many other games with expansions having a listed webpage feature as "we made lights flash pretty colors!" This if at all should be a sideline in the overall patch notes.

This expansion really looks like it's going to be worse than Dominion.

Does this mean we can own land? Assuming this is gonna cost.

Confirming that "Dev Time" can be applied to any area, regardless of the type of developer in question.
As such, implementing this feature is bound to have set back the network programmers over 9000 hours, in their hunt for lag.
In other news; the cake was a lie.

I have an Alienware-Laptop and noticed the new feature on Sisi a couple of days ago. I don't like it and I'll switch it off. But that's personal taste.
While I, too, think, that the time invested in this feature is a complete waste of time we have to see, that CCP did it for PR-reasons. I remember a CCP-dev (forgot who it was) say at an interview during the last tourney, that they were planning a cooperation with Alienware and I am guessing we are seeing the result here.
So it's not really a feature, but a method to get a higher media-profile. Simple as that.

OMG, will this finally put an end to all this "they cannot afford to hire 50,000 testers" crap?!

Speaking as a Developer (not CCP) my boss came to me a few months back and asked me to implement this.. after reading the API, it took me all of 5 minutes to program. Its a nice feature, eye candy, gives that extra feeling.. but by no means a major thing. Dont freak out.

Guys stop making fun of this great new feature!
With this functionality you can finally tell when your ship is being killed during a 15 minute grid load. The grid still wont load but at least you can see you're being killed by watching the blinking lights on your computer.
I for one welcome this feature.
Who needs a working game now that we have planet graphics AND blinking lights. I'm in seventh heaven.
Oh, wait...

Yay guys, another vendor tie-in; surely this is what the player base needs/wants! Maybe we can get some ingame ads for Dell while you're at it? Like "Please wait while you dock... and watch this video <<BUY DELL>>.

Don't tell me, CCPee did a survey and found users of this keyboard outnumbered Medium Shader users.

Right?
Confirming that
if (playerShip->isWarpScrambled() == true && hasAlienFX() == true) { alienFX::setKeyboardColor(red); }
is just as difficult to maintain as the medium quality shaders. ----------
