Seeing as how TEST blatantly purchased their win from that last keres pilot, when can we expect an official announcement about their punishment? |

Since the referee didn't decide to punish them for it during or right after the match they won't get punished at all, you should try reading the rules.
No reason they should be anyway since it made for better TV than watching a keres fly in circles for rest of match. |

You mean the last 45 seconds of the match? |

45 precious seconds of my life !
Since it had zero effect on the victor of the match, I don't see any reason for anything other than congratulations to both parties on profiting ISK, gaining a few extra points and reducing the amount of time wasted on a match that was already over.
Now if the Keres's team had been winning and been paid to throw it, that'd be different. |

So you dont see an issue with teams paying for points, which could be the difference between advancing and not advancing? |

You seem upset you lumped everybody in one corp and then got banned for it.
This level of metagaming has always been allowed, the kind that is detrimental to the tournament is not, and your opinion of what is detrimental to the tournament is less than relevant.
What matters is what CCP say and thin, its their game, if you don't like it you're free to play something else.
In the end, you know exactly why no punishment has been issued, but you're just being an asshat to stir up ****. |

tyrax explains why its ok. it wasn't a team intentionally taking a dive for isk. The match was already over it was simply test buying a few more points. if the other side had payed test to loose instead now that would have probably annoyed ccp. |

After watching that match, you really think that the entire thing wasnt paid for? |

If the whole thing was paid for, Test would have brought less points. The only time I think it is possible that a team was paid to take a dive today, is there were a few teams with zero points from last week that brought a full 50 points. It is possible that those 50 points teams were paid by someone else to ensure that their opponent never makes it to groups, and in return they walk away with a win but would also never make groups themselves. However, I think it's far more likely that they are just bad at math or didn't understand the rules. |

No disrespect Michael, but I hardly think Test would broadcast such a strategy to you. They would jeopardize their strategy by doing so and you would lose the plausible deniability that you are so whole-heartedly advocating.
And since it seems that Goons/Test (yes, I lump them together) primary strategy in the game is to out-economize everyone else, why do you think they wouldn't do the same thing in the ATX? That perspective seems naive.
Yes this is in the rules. But it's a terrible rule. If Test doesn't advance, then hey whatever they blew 2B, no harm done. 2B is nothing, Goons just admitted to having over 1 Trillion/month in income. 2B? Should have charged them 2T. Enemy team sold themselves short.
But if Test does advance ONLY because of this, then you have to admit this is totally ****** up.
This is a COMBAT tournament, not a who has more isk to blow on stupid stuff tournament. If they don't make it through on their COMBAT skills, then they have no place in further rounds as far as I'm concerned.

Almost all of these teams have put in a lot of man power into the tournament, practicing and seeing what fits work. Very few teams are going to take cash to lose this year. In the Test vs. No Holes Barred match none of the people who know the very most about the tournament detected any sort of foul play. These teams really care about the work they put in, and I can understand them paying some cash to get an extra 2 points on an already sealed victory.
I think that you might be misinterpreting the motivations of some of the big money teams. The teams who have a ton of cash are mostly playing in the tournament for something to do. They want to play because they like testing their piloting and meta gaming ability, much more then actually wanting the prize ships. You'll see intel games, spying, and all sorts of meta-gaming from these teams, but I would be flat out shocked to hear that the teams I recognize as big money teams had flat out paid for a match ahead of time. I would almost certainly hear about it as well, I talk to and chill with most of the head guys in those alliances. |

So, is spending hundreds of billions of Isk on fittings for the tournament to get an advantage not legitimate either?
Why would Test go through the trouble of fixing the match surreptitiously beforehand only to then pay off the Keres pilot after the match outcome was determined while CCP looke on, and then post the local logs about it freely afterwards? That makes absolutely no sense.

Take your 2 cents and go rent a clue.
Its never been strictly a combat tournament, and it never will be, you're an idiot.
It is who has more guile, more trickery, who's better at cloak and dagger, who''s spies are best, who has the best understanding of the games current mods and ships, and how to exploit that to the maximum effect, and yes, who can put that to the best use in combat, but combat is only one aspect of a tournament that has always been about the Metagame.

I find this thread amusing, since I'm pretty sure that one of the teams paid 5b to win last year. I think it was one of the Hydra matches, where they self-destructed all their ships (2nd round I think). And I'm fairly certain there was no uproar about that. |

op, TEST isn't Hydra so the rules don't apply, you can't seriously believe any of those rules are for anybody else? They have said on record many many times that those rules were brought in specifically for Hydra. It's a shame they didn't let Hydra in the tournament so that they could have used those badly written rules against them instead of making up lies and new rules like they did. |

You would be right that telling MBIII would mean it would get broadcasted to the entire world if it would improve his opinion polls.

Goons != TEST. TEST is like the 80% of the 1%. We are not poor but we are not goons/pl/nc. Obviously to an outsider this makes no difference at all and figure we can just pay-to-win. But considering that the 2B came out of my own pocket (hope I get it back sometime) I think you need to change who you put under the microscope.

This level of metagaming is what I would call "metagaming light". It is nothing compared to the point fixing and conga lines. Being the team captain and flying in that match, the only metagaming happened at the end when we had no frigates left and wanted to kill that Keres.

I definitely appreciate the time that all the teams put into preparing for this tournament.
Also it does seem that both teams did honestly try to progress by winning the match. I'm not trying to say anybody threw the match intentionally.
That being said, as a spectator, I still think it's wrong for one team to buy points in the AT. Earn them, if you can, and otherwise get out of the way and let the better/luckier pilots move on. Someone has to lose, and hey, this time it was you. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and continue on with life like a responsible person. Better luck next time.
Every RL sport that is worth watching explicitly bans betting or deal-making on the part of the participants, for the very reason that it's boring for spectators to watch and the sport itself does better without it. If Eve wants to grow in popularity, I don't believe they can just continue to allow matches and points to be bought.
Personally I have been very disappointed by the low number of people watching this tournament. Meta-gaming and a reputation for the losers winning due to it no doubt has contributed to this.
Everyone who replied to this thread supporting meta-gaming so far is in the "I'm already doing it, F you for suggesting the rules should change" group. Eve stands to make NO MORE MONEY from catering to you. However if they make AT more fun for spectators to watch, they could make A LOT MORE MONEY from doing so.

You're talking about corp theft ? Sorry to disappoint you but I still do that occasionally, hell that's what people (occasionally) hire us at the Guiding Hand to do to people. I have no idea what moment you're talking about, was it in 2005 since that's when you left Tribal Trust of Pator ? |

Eve Online in my opinion will always attract the sort of person that enjoys meta-gaming, so my 2 cents says you're wrong it will make more money.
It's a sandbox and as such anything goes as long as you're not cheating, long may it continue.
