You must have missed the last 5 trailers in that case. Since RMR the trailers have been becoming increasingly "marketing" and had less and less to do with the actual game. This effect has culminated in such fakes as the Butterfly Effect and the Dragon Fleet video. Both lack any in-game footage what so ever. Instead CCP wastes resources to create fake videos of scenes that are not (and never were) possible in EVE. Such as a fleet jumping in to a second fleet - this is totally impossible without having 15 minute grid loads and it can't be considered "fun" by any strech of the imagination. The same goes for all the footage in the Butterfly Effect video - this is neither the EVE UI nor the graphics that you can expect to find in-game. Thus it is misleading and downright dishonest and should at the very least have a large red disclaimer saying "this is a product of pure fiction and in no way relates to what you'll be getting for 15$ a month".
But I guess it's easier to waste money on crappy marketing videos then on actual making the game half-playable. ![Evil or Very Mad](/images/icon_evil.gif)
Luckily there is a "comments" section on most video sites (youtube, mmorpg.com etc.) so you can at least try and warn CCPs victims that they're being scammed with nice-looking videos that simply don't have anything to do with the laggy, crap-performance EVE client that we all have to work with.
Just shame them everywhere you see these videos - maybe they'll actually notice that they could sell their game much better without lying to their future customers.
Edit: CCP, I heard Cryptic Studios has some marketing people looking for a new job. Perhaps you could link up with them? They have a lot of experience with vapour-ware. ![ugh](/images/icon_ugh.gif)

I havenĘt seen any new trailers of EVE since "EVE never fades" came out? ![Rolling Eyes](/images/icon_rolleyes.gif) Best EVE trailer to date still!
That movie actually started with a line showing something like: all scenes are captured from actual in game footage or something?

Exactly. If you saw the trailer for Die Hard 4 and all you got when you went to the cinema was a still image of Bruce Willis holding a gun, you'd be well disappointed.
Were you jamming me in that fight? All I managed to do was lock on over and over and over. Wasn't sure if it was jamming or lag. I did manage to kill someone else who was too lagged to lock me, so it all balanced out in the end I guess.
I wasn't jamming, no, but noticed my lock dropping a bit too. I ended up killing 3 ships over the course of 30 minutes and then warping out 'cause my CPU was overheating and I was bored of waiting for nothing to happen ![Neutral](/images/icon_neutral.gif)

That was it, thank you.
So yeah, haven't seen THAT line in any of the other videos...because that would be lying now would it.

Originally by: Crumplecorn Is it any less accurate than the Dominion trailer? Really? Really?
The real irony here is that the Dominion trailer depicted this huge seamless fleet battle over a single system... which Dominion completely ruined by introducing the worst lag we've seen in years.
I think the revised Dominion trailer should show the fleet that's jumping in at the end of the video getting slaughtered while they sit there staring at blank screens and logging in and out to try to save their ships. ![Rolling Eyes](/images/icon_rolleyes.gif)

We're not beating a dead horse good sir. Every new video that CCP (m/f)ake is worse then the previous one. Soon they'll stop even pretending and just make a new trailer instead of any actual in-game content.
Your comment might carry some merit if this thread were about old videos - sadly this problem is getting worse and worse the longer we pay CCP money. Seemingly they feel it's a good idea to invest in marketing instead of the core of this game.
It's like they totally forgot that we (the older players) started playing EVE without having bait-videos - we started playing because it was a good game with a unique concept and not because some marketing imbecile is good at faking videos.
And to be quite honest if I first watched one of the newest EVE trailers and then started playing the game I think I'd instantly quit because I just couldn't trust a company that lies so extremely. If the videos are faked then who knows what other "features" they promise are also faked? Or at least that's how I'd feel about it if I were new customer just staring out.
EVE is a great game and CCP do an OK job - but this does not justify lying and creating totally misleading advertisements to bait unsuspecting people. Especially because nobody plays EVE because of the graphics - this is spreadsheet online after all.

If you look at products like a cup holder, mobile phone holder or whatnot then there is usually a little tag that says "mobile phone not included". If CCP want to continue to create these fake videos then I'd request they also place a disclaimer saying "graphics, sound and interface not included". That would be about fair.
Also: their land is exploding because they create these videos.

Bling happened. CCP marketing obviously feels that the current in game graphics are not so good, well ok, they think they're crap to advertise with (look at all the flashy blingbling UI's non exsistent in game), so they cheat. ![Cool](/images/icon_cool.gif)

I think he refers to the blueish "overview" stuff in the beginning and in the end of the vid.

I have to admit. I have noticed their marketing videos moving progressively to the land of "make believe", but Tyrannis is definitely the first video that is blatantly false, depicting something that doesn't exist, and no dev is willing to say will be in the expansion..
But I agree with what you are saying. As CCP has grown as a company, they appear to be failing in their effort to hold onto the things that brought them success in the first the place. A loyal fan following for one. It's a shame actually. I miss the likes of Oveur dev blogs, and guys like kiernan actively engaging the player community.
Unfortunately, I don't see any scifi MMO that comes anywhere close to what EVE offers, so even though I'm disappointed with CCP's misleading/false advertising, I guess it's something I will have to learn to live with. For now.
Cheers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [GNSTR]
