We are all on vent listening to the FC/Scouts talk about what is happening in the target system. We are not sure if they will have their caps show but the scouts tell us they can see in another system their caps logging in & forming up so the word is passed: fight night! The FC tells the cyno to light off: 2 carriers to jump & start attacking. Sure enough a minute later the Rooks light off their cyno. Our FC tells the other carriers to jump in.... & then 30 seconds later he tells us Dreads to jump. As this is my first hot drop I am a bit nervous about what will happen. Will we get counter 'hot dropped'? How many other ships are there? Do we have enough support? Will my shiny Dread live through the hour? So as my screen flashes white & then slowly clears I see we are currently attacking 8-9 carriers. We have 8 dreads & 5 carriers. ôGo to Siegeö is ordered & we start pounding on our first target. My torps are finally hitting the target & the carriers shields are going down... but then it slows & stops. I am like - what? Then we are told to switch to the 2nd target. We do & those shields go to halfway - then stop. By this time our first carrier in says he is into structure & soon dies. Our FC puts out a general call in Alliance for all cap pilots online to get into their caps to help out. It was apparent to the FC (& us) that we are unable to break any tank... & worse they were starting to work on the Dreads to kill them. Over the next 10 minutes these carriers sucked each Dread they targeted of cap & killed them: Four Dreads are killed. At this point I had dropped out of Siege & saw no reason to start it up. Each time a Dread was killed off I thought, "Am I next?". But they never did till they started on their 5th dread: I was to be their 5th kill. By this time our FC got a relief force together & they were waiting at the halfway point to recharge. Would they be in time? The enemy had a huge fleet of fighters circling my Dread. It looked like hundreds of little gnats spitting lightning at me. I actually was holding up the damage as long as my cap lastedà which was about a minute. But soon as my cap was gone I started going. I kept up a running tally on fleet chat. ôShields goneà + armor gone, half armor, ect. IÆm now into structure (the only mod I have running is Damage Control 2) Halfway into structure the FC has two carrier ready & they tell me to x in fleet. I do & they jump to me: they are loaded with smart bombs. We also bring in 5-6 more repping carriers. I am looking at the red line in structure & it has gone to 1/4 left. My hull is smoking & on fire! But because I am so close to dying the Rooks want the kill & keep on trying. I & my other carrier guys (who are also repping me) are looking at my shields that are 100 percent red.. then a touch of white.. then all red again.. then a bit of white. This goes on for what seems like forever - but was probably 10 to 15 seconds - but finally the fighters either die or are pulled back.. & my shields start turning steadily white. They had bubbled me but after 45 seconds I could get out & warped to a station. I lived! Since the Rooks saw they were not going to get any more kills they quickly moved all carriers into the POSà jumped out & logged off. I flew my smoking Dread back to the POS after thatà & asked for the guys to give my some armor repping. They did & were amazed to see how little more it would have taken to kill my ship! I thanked all of them for making the jump in to save my Phoenix. So thatÆs my story.
