What is the best mining Frigate and why? I'm torn between the Probe and the Imicus.
The Probe is faster and has a smidge more cargo space because of its ship special ability. the Imicus has more power and drone space.
I'm inclined to think the Imicus is better because if you want to run 2 Mining Lasers you can run multiple combat drones to defend yourself and still have room for mining drones; and if you are mining in a group you could in theory run 2 lasers and 5 miner elite drones for the "Mine and Drop" style of digging.
Am I on the right track there or am I way off base?

depends on your race.
since I'm minmatar, i use a probe.
2 mining lasers are good.
i find drones a hassle or I just dont quite get how they suppose to act with mine command.

Depends on what you are doing.
If you are mining alone the probe is the way to go, it has more cargo space and is faster. You have to make less trips to the belt and those take less time.
If you mine in a group with indy support either a Imicus with mining drones or (better) a rifter, Incursus or Punisher with the CPU upgrades and 3 mining lasers.

For solo mining I would go with the Probe. And if you have an Indu available, then I would go for the Rifter, you can fit 3 mining lasers on them (not the miner1 though, but some drop lasers).

Personally, I like the Imicus. With two cargo expanders and two mining lasers you can get a nice load per run. Also, I don't use mining drones. (Too little extra ore/speed for the hassle of control.) I have two Hammerhead combat drones in my bay. Good defense for mining low-end pirate infested fields. (With a shield booster, and the drones. I just keeping mining....)

If you are group mining and cargo doesn't matter use a punisher. It can easily equip 3 miners. One exta miner is way better then thee extra drones.

I'm not so sure why folks are so down on mining drones. As I understand it, a Miner Elite or Harvester pulls in ore faster than most drills. Last time I read, either one pulled in 60 M3 of ore per minute. Five elites running at once would give you +300 M3 of ore per minute - isn't that significantly better than what you would get by having 3 drills, even if they were CU Vapor Bores?

Drewbicus, Harvester and Elite pulls in 30 m3. Also, despite popular belief the Elite is better than a Harvester because:
1: It's 50 m/sec faster than the Harvester.
2: It takes up half the dronebay space of a Harvester.
3: It yields the same amount of ore.

Ok, so 2 elites pull in as much ore as one CU Vapor Bore if they get 30 M3/minute each, for a total of 60 m3/minute for two of the drones. that means 5 of them running from an Imucus is like having 2.5 vapor bores. Adding 2 Vapor Bore drills to the ship itself gets the equivalent of 4.5 Vapor Bores. Isn't that better than most other frigates, since you can haul your own cargo if you want?

What about the burst? It's cheap, has +5% bonus to mining yield per skill level in minmatar frigate, and has a decent enough cargo size, enough to hold and offload the 2 lasers worth of minerals into a container for an indy.
If you've got 4 levels in minmatar frigate, you'd get 2.4 lasers worth of minerals.

I noticed that the harvester drones are not effect by the mining drone operation skill. So your yeild doesn't increase by putting more time in the skill for harvestors not sure on elite though..
Anyone else notice the same problem???

What about the type of ore they will take? isnt harvester better on this point?
otherwise i dont understand why i use harvesters now, well the price of them is the only thing PRO on them now.
