Hey guys,
Lately a few of us players have been seeing some funky things in game, it appears like it started after one of the latest apple updates. Below is a link to an image which is a common site for some of us as of late. Please take a moment to view it.
Graphics Error For those afraid of outside links (even though it is imageshack.us) what is happening is that objects and layers are rendering on screen in the wrong order, even though my ship is in front of the station, the station renders in front of my ship and occludes my ship, the best example of this is in the image where my shuttle appears larger than an NPC station.
This also happens with other objects and even parts of the ship itself that render in front even though they should be covered by the ship itself..
What I need from you, is to please let me know if you are seeing this issue or not, and what kind of video card you are using, so far the only people I've seen with this issue are using ATI video cards.
You can respond with a simple "No I'm not seeing this issue and I'm using video card <insert your video card>" or "Yeah I got the same thing, and also (blah blah blah), and I use video card <insert your video card>"
If we can narrow it down to ATI video cards we'll be one step closer to figuring out exactly how to fix it. And CCP will be able to centralize their search for what is causing the issues.
Thank you all in advance for your responses!

Thanks for the input so far guys! I also tried it on the new sisi build, it uses a new cider engine (Dominix pilots, you will soon see your engine fire again!) but it doesn't seem to fix this specific issue. Still a lot of back and forth going on with a GM in a petition, I'm thinking about making a video and linking it since it would really explain it a lot better.

Not seeing this NVIDIA GeForce 9400, still running 10.5.8 Have resisted the lure of Snow Leopard for the exact reason that I've been worried about how compatible it will be with eve. I mean, it's taken how long to finally get a nice stable MAC client?
If only this were what the other pilots saw too... Can you imagine the pants crapping that would go on when you jump that poor little Raven with you shuttle that eclipses even the station? No matter that it may have only a few hundred ehp and no guns, still pure win.
Hope to hear you get this resolved soon.

Edited by: Pheonix Summers on 29/04/2010 14:55:51 I am using: ATI Radeon HD 4850 4 GB DDR3 RAM Intel Core 2 Duo (3.06 GHz) Model Identifier: iMac9,1 (24")
I also made a video to attach to a bug report. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-KTJmycQiw You can see there the different ways that the issue shows. I usually play on optimal performance settings because it reduced the frequency with which my client crashes and keeps my mac running a little cooler which I'm all for.

That's the first non-ATI video card I've heard of yet to experience it, but then again I'm not hearing a lot of good things about that card (the GMAX) so I'm not going to be terribly surprised about it. I've certainly not heard yet of anyone having this issue with nvidia. I wonder what it is about these cards that might behave differently with that latest Apple update.
Keep the feedback coming, I'm still waiting to hear back on my bug-report which I've filed. I'll keep you posted on anything relevant... I may not be as active on the mac side of things soon though :S, got my windows product key now and bootcamp is going on this as soon as I get home, I've heard some mac users say they have no issues with the client, but mine crashes at the most inopportune times and I'm diving into PVP with an alt, and am paying for my gametime with isk.. playing with fewer crashes means I'll be more likely to be able to afford this game, which means I'm going to the windows client (sad I know).
I'll keep using the Mac side for almost everything else of course, but when the time for pvp or expensive drones comes.. I need a client that works (on most macs(mine included), not just on some).
On the road for the next while, I'll se ya'll on the other side.

No probs, I think most of us here love this game enough to be willing to put in some of their own input in order to make it better. The Mass testing times tend to happen at inconvenient times for me else I'd be going nuts on those too.
I did end up getting bootcamp installed, it was a necessary evil, I have had far fewer Disconnects. Odd thing though, I've found if I run more things at the same time, things disconnect less.
I've always suspected that the lulls and highs of any internet connection was the source for legit disconnects (and not just outright client fails), and that the windows client was able to better-handle these lulls and maintain contact with the servers. It seems to me that the Mac client does not have the same ability to maintain contact with the server during natural lulls in network activity.
Considering the above, it makes sense that while I play internet radio or have a torrent running in the background, my client appears to disconnect less often. Possibly by directing more of my networks strength to my computer and being a bit of a bandwidth hog, I don't know.
It could just be coincidence, but it also seems that by changing to an ISP with more overall bandwidth but slightly more latency, that my connections still persist much better.
When tyrannis comes out, I'll still be watching the mac forums, even boot up the mac client a bit and check things out. Multi-clienting is definitely more stable on Windows though, so if you're thinking about bootcamping, just let me know and I can help since I've just done it recently myself.
