You know if mining acutally took contant attention it would stop macro'ers in thier tracks
even somthing as simple as a 4 button control panel that pops up. with +-power and +-coolant. you ahve two sliding gauges and the aim would be to keep them within a specified level. the two bars would fluctuate randomly every 60 seconds requiring u to make adjustments either +- to keep the laser within optimal ranges. if they go outside thier optimal range for more than 2 cycles the lasers turn off
due to the random nature of the occilations no simple macro could ever handle it.
Alough this is a very simplistic idea and would be a pain in the arse for all miners to deal with. It really would stop macro mining in a heartbeat.
I'm sure CCP could create a much better and more involved mini game, with possible bonuses for skilled operation of laser (e.g. 100-150% yeild). But it would have to be done really well to make it interesting enough for miners so its a cool feature and not simple a nessecasry and anyoing evil

I could write a macro to scan the bars and adjust the controls as necessary. It would take anyone with more then a dozen brain cells less then 20 minutes. And while I'm against macroing, such a pointless and stupid addition would probably drive me to do it. -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

I'm sorry, but this is a really stupid suggestion for anti-macro'ers, sorry I had to say it...

Heh. truth to be told, if mining was like this then i'd sit in belt and mine for hours. :s
(the idea is nice because it actually makes the most boring part of game fun. That it'd get in way of the macro-mining is just a positive side-effect...)

Edited by: MrYellow on 03/12/2004 10:08:33 no no no you've got it all wrong!
You want to make mining more stupid, take more attention, and be more boring???
There is MUCH easier solution. That will actually WORK!
All you do.... is make the mining interface usable. Allow a direct mining to can feature or whatever. Levels the playing field, people can actually go get a coffee while mining, everything enjoys it a lot more, and no one gets RSI from dragging ore ever few seconds. If someone wants to run 24 accounts, fine they can pay for them, but really if they are using the same tools as everyone else their macro will give them no real benefit over a normal use.
Give EVERYONE a "macro" ie... A working interface.
But that would be smart right.... Can't make the interface easier.... gotta make it harder.

w0rd!! the reason i don't mine is because it's mind numbing.
the coolant suggestion form the original poster is even worse, do you expect me to sit in front of the PC and click little meters for a few hours? only masochists would mine.

Although sth like "public macros" could be nice, it would IMHO ruin ingame economics - ppl would have a lot more ISK,the prices would go higher and finally we would get to the same point like now, where earning ISK takes the same amount of time (comparing to ISK needs) like now.

If you are going to think that way there will be always people with too many RL money on their pockets.
Why macromining? If you are UBER rich in RL you could simply buy 30 accounts and put employees playing EVE for 23 hours. 30 accounts mining for 23 hours to your own profit.
Is there really a limit? You could even make your own Empire in EVE with 100 accounts 23 hours a day. Always fully armed and battle ready. Could anyone compete with this? would it be fair? Its really just a matter of how much you are willing to spend isn't it? Selling Raven BPC ME20 3M at Yulai 1st Station |

I don't think that it is technically possible to stop them from doing what they are doing, I mean the mouse movement routines are directly translated from the system routines. So if someone has the knowledge about Win32 API he could easily write some piece of code to simulate mouse movements. If there would be a possibility to safely distinguish whether the mouse movement is a native hand movement or just some simulated one then there would be a possibility. There would be so many things you could put in as overhead, the safest thing would be to have CCP creating an executive wing of law enforcement officers with international authority.
A more easy way would be simple if GMs set all macrominers to security state -10.0 ---- A true player does feel no need to remind himself or fellow players that it is just a game. |
