I'm just getting a general idea of where I'm gonna setup so I'm in no rush. My credentials: 23, no wife, no kids, no bills, english speaking, eletrician. I love the cold weather (gotta keep my gtx 480 cool) , so I was thinking Canada but I don't speak french, only english. I love rural areas and would like to purchase a couple of acres of land ($200,000+ saved up). I can always find a job so I'm not worried about that. I also don't want to live in a liberal town/city/state. So high taxes and liberal people aren't my thing. I'm asking on the forums to get some personal expirience from people who live/lived there because a place my look good on paper but not so much irl. So any ideas would be much appreciated Thank you edit: Oh yea the area also has to have a fast internet connection

If you don't live in Quebec you can get by no problem with only English Not to mention politics. The Canadian attitude for politics is basically apathetic. No one really cares about it too too much. But if you want a conservative flavored area then, again, Alberta. Though conservatism in Canada is akin to moderate liberalism in the US so maybe not. Not to mention not having a PST which all the other provinces have. GST is still there though. Also if you want rural living you can find that in any province in Canada. Lowest population density in the world I believe. Fast internet is also a non issue unless you really want to live in a rural area. Most towns will have all the normal national stores so getting supplies is as easy as living in the suburbs and probably less of a hassle to get to. Cold snowy winters and mild stormy summers are the norm so you should have no cooling issues. Hell using the card as a space heater will probably save on your natural gas bill. If you take a portion of that money and do something smart with it, you could easily retire at 40 or 50 yrs old as opposed to 65/70 like most people. Yup. Especially if you work hard up until you hit 40. Then you can literally retire like someone who slaved his entire life away for a fat pension. The trick though is to stay unmarried until you get to that point as kids and a young wife are the prime cause of having to slave away your life for a fat pension. It's the only way to pay for the divorce, alimony and child support. Not to say you should always be single or never marry at all. I'm just saying try to not do it until you can afford it. Quebec has language laws which require restrict the English language. Alberta has no PST (same as GST), and I believe is the cheapest province to live in. IIRC the tax is a 10% flat tax, and health care premiums were scrapped. ($260 a year) I don't live in B.C. but I hear it's pretty good. Alberta and B.C. are both "have" provinces, which makes them the best to move to atm.

Now, it's no longer quite that much of a difference, but still noticeable. The places I would look at, would be: Norway Finland Sweden Poland Romania Bulgaria Through my travels in Europe, these places stick out the most. The people were very friendly and most spoke english. Finland though would be my top choice. The summers are mild and the winters are cold. If you are not interested in another language, the places I would look at are: US: Montana Wyoming Idaho North Dakota Alaska Montana is my top choice. The people were nice and the pace was slow. You could drive a short distance and be no ware. Canada: British Columbia Alberta Gods country when you travel north, but the cost of living is higher in Canada. My self, I would like to get out of PA and move to Montana. The average cost of land is not too bad until you get into the mountains.

Lived up there for 2 years and absolutely loved it. Price wise though you won't get a couple acres with only 200 grand... :( anyways, my 2 cents.
