Hi!
Just wondering if there's realy any difference between mining in say 0.7/0.8 or in a 0.5? Is it all crap ore is it worth looking for a good 0.5 system?

Maybe I'm wrong - but I do believe some 'roids are bigger in 0.5. ________________________

look for deadend systems with no stations and little activity

You will find 'better' types of ore in lower sec as well as more of all types of ore. However, which mineral is best to mine can change (it is often veldspar, the most common of ores) finding a little known .5 may or may not be worth it.

The asteroids get bigger the lower you go. Also the types of ore available also improve the lower you go. So a .7 has more types then a 1.0. Also there is some variety of ore types based on region.

Thank god someone else knows the value of veldspar. My corp mates dont know why i mine veld (maybe its because it refines into a single mineral, maybe because there is a limitless supply of it, maybe its because its really small and you can carry a ton of it easily), all i know is it's been my prime source of income for over a year (10mil every 3 hours or so).
But yeah...if your going to mine in empire, go 0.5. Look on your map for .5 systems with no jumps in the past 24 hours and it should be a good place to start mining...thats what I did. EVEntually |

from my experience the lower the sec of a system. the better and higher the quantity of the rocks are. Personally high sec or even low sec mining is a complete waste of time, its no where near as profitable, your putting in more time than what your getting back in isk, even just mining veldspar.
My advise is simple, 00 mining sucks since u need protection from the rats and ofc other players, Best place to mine is in a wormhole.
You get access to the rarest of ores and with some common sense ur pretty safe compared to other areas, or at least you will make enough isk to buy 5 hulks after a few days.
don't be fooled about high sec mining, a waste of ur bloody time. Also heads up for PI, its going to be better in WH also

I have mined in high sec for years, I just keep an eye on the mineral prices across each region. if you have the means to move large quantites of minerals and trained up the right skills you can clear 2-3 mil an hour.

2-3 m isk an hour, and u claim to have played eve for years. really
from past experience it took us with saya fleet of 5 , many hours to make 30m isk, in the same time, i now can make 500m isk, and your claim 2-3m and also telling the guy to get a freighter

Edited by: Professor Leech on 14/05/2010 00:42:55 2-3m per hour is in the right region. You could make 4m+ per hour per person with top skills, gear and orca in support. Allowing for hauling, partial cycles, and other inefficiencies.
If you really want to mine in high sec you'd make more isk running mining missions.

I go for the more moderate ... to each his own. There is no right way to play Eve. There are always better ways to make isk but making isk your way is kinda what Eve is all about.
Mine the less populated systems. Mine where there is the ore you want.
I mine a system close to the ore I want, close to ice when I want to mine it and close to the missions I want to run.
One point...Don't solo mine into a can in .5 (anywhere really). You'll just be asking to be harassed

I'm just pointing out other options for mining that are available and profitable. Rather than be anti-mining.
Mining mission deadspaces is another option that keeps you close to the ore, able to spawn it when needed, and allows jet can mining without the usual issues.

The most profitable hisec ores to mine right now are Plagioclase and Scordite. Wherever you find lots of those, that's where you want to set up your mining operation.
There's a fair amount of Plagioclase in the level 1 missions "Unauthorised Military Presence". There's bucketloads of Scordite in "Break Their Will". Both of these are missions you can run in a Hulk, using naught but your drones for DPS.

You're kidding right? I can easily clear 4mil per hour by myself in high sec.

Edited by: munitqua on 15/05/2010 09:51:36 i have perfect mining skills, i can make 10m isk an hour with mining, but its still not enough haha. I hate it. It's better to mine and produce than just sell the raw minerals/roids in my opinion, then i can make some decent profits.
but overall, mining sucks anyways ( hope the new patch changes things), im changing profession anyway, mining is only good when you are AFK and you want to make some money.

wow.. let's do some math! atm my hulk has a yield of 1599, let's round that to 1600 just for easier calculations! i have 3 strippers, so - 3*1600=4800m3 per 3 mins.. in one hour i can get 20 cycles (60/3) so.. 20*4800=96000m3 hour i did some isk/m3 calculations and found that scordite is the winner at around 82 isk/m3 (if i remember correctly) in the Tash-Murkon region.. 96000*82=7872000 isk per hour, this is in a perfect world though so to avoid any whining about this fact i'll just say around 7 mill.. 2-3 mill or 4 mill is waay off
and for the OP, (even though this has been answered) the lower you go the bigger the roids and also, plagi or kernite and pyroxeres show up at lower sec status's. imo, there's no reason to NOT be mining in 0.5, if your ship can handle the rats - a retriever can easily sort rats out :)
