Seriously? Why? Did some dev get himself a Alienware laptop?
Are there not more important things to do than program a useless feature that a absolute minority of the user base will benefit from?

I actually think you hit the nail on the head there.

According to the belief of the smartest poasters of this forum, the keyboard-lights-department of CCP couldn't have been sent to do something else because after all, they're the keyboard-lights-department and do keyboard lights.
I'm glad I could be of help. VOTE CAT

Alienware hopes to sell some keyboards, CCP gets some ISK. Business as usual.

From a stand-out section of the feature page:
"Tyrannis harnesses the visual cue capability of AlienFX-compatible Alienware machines and keyboards. The multi-colored perimeter lighting will now pulse and change when triggered by critical game events including: òLow capacitor òWarp scrambling òAutopilot waypoints and destination òCargo full òCap recharge levels when in jump-capable ships"
I bolded the important parts so you can solve the puzzle.
Spoiler: Alienware payed for the work and then some

It is most likely that Eve Online will be bundled onto Alienware machines. In that event, they probably partnered with Alienware to get a better deal with the contract for the preload of the software. It would pay for itself, if they get more customers that way.
This means (possibly) more money for CCP and maybe more developers bringing us more content in the future. - Vhan |

And then if they didn't do something for a cool keyboard, you'd be *****ing that they don't keep up with the times and are neglecting people who do have them.

Are there not more important things to complain about than a few hours worth of coding (probably around 4 or 5) that more than you and a couple other people will benefit from *****ing about?

Yes. I would like funky animations of ships I target in my G15 display, such as SH/AR/ST bars, that kind of blink and light up when damaged. ________________________

I have to admit, such a feature would be uber-low on a list of things to do.
Yet...it was done.
I guess the player base doesn't really have any say...unless they are a real life corporation.
Makes you think.

Yes. Because a dev got an Alienware keyboard. Yes.

I think it's a cool edition. Stuff like this is what keeps me playing eve. I might actually get an Alienware keyboard now and I hope CCP gets a commision because I couldn't think of a better company to give my money to.
Also the ppl whining about lag and other "broken" mechanics. The devs work on seperate issues. I'm sure the lag problem wouldn't get fixed any faster if they didn't include features like this.
also it's business kid, I would have done the same thing

Edited by: Kyra Felann on 01/05/2010 02:33:43 To be fair, I doubt this took long to do.
And no, I don't own, nor have I ever owned an Alienware anything.
If there were other companies that made keyboards that supported this, it'd be cool. Mine lights up, but only in whatever color you set it to.
EDIT: Logitech G-series keyboard support would be better, IMO, since I'm sure more players use them than Alienware ones. I have a G13 pad and it'd be nice if EVE supported it. Oh well, at least EVEMon works with it.

But for the record, I only changed my sig because I was annoying myself with the last one.

Swing and a miss.
And seriously guys, whatever code they want to toy around with on their lunch breaks is really their own concern.
If you want to presume to tell CCP how to allocate their programmer resources, at least stick to something significant. ===== If you go to Za'Ha'Dum I will gank you. |

Yes, there are. Like the fact that they wasted a day worth of coding to add a useless feature that 10 people playing this game have, when they could have fixed something else in that day. Like rockets. Fix rockets Shadow.
