Originally by: Companion Trollin I love that people are in here trolling LA, meanwhile he's trusted with full API keys to run audits. N1 people, n1.
The people pointing out shortcomings in his offering are not necessarily the same people that are trusting Lord Arbalest with their API keys.
I don't quite understand how the statement of "Hey, I'd like to be an internet spaceshipz auditor" suddenly makes you trustworthy.
Mere name recognition seems to be a deciding factor in MD investors' decision making.
Of course people can invest their money however they like to do and I don't expect my warning to have any effect on the MD "elite". But if it causes one or the other lemming to pause and think for himself for just a little moment, I would be entirely content.

There's definitely a balance between having an opinion and trolling, but one of the dumbest things that goes on around here is when "celebrities" get beyond question or doubt, except by other "celebrities" of similar "stature", and then usually only as some form of long-running internet slap-fight.
Arbalest is a relative new-comer. He got money very quickly without an audit. If that's considered worth pointing out by some people, then good for them. If it's considered to be something that needs addressing, then people should speak up. If Arbalest feels enough people have expressed concern, then he will address it.
People need to stop making everything into personal attacks and rep-fights, offenders and defenders.
Disclaimer: I'm just as bad in my own way as anyone else, but this is what I believe and I'm trying to do better.

Those with concerns should feel free to raise them in any offering if they so wish to (in a constructive manner ofc), and those who do not feel positively about any(my) offering should never invest in one.

Don't forget desperation. That's a major factor in their willingness to invest in pretty much anything vaguely respectable at pretty much any rate. There just aren't enough good offerings out there for people to restrict themselves to investing in just them, so the dross gets filled too. It's just supply, demand and the resulting standard that the market accepts.
Please understand that I'm not complaining. Being able to raise hundreds of billions at between 1.5% - 3.0% is a facility that I am very greatful for. If the competition was better then I'd probably have to pay a higher rate, which would never do.

people invest because the potential loss is (relatively) minor. this mitigates much of the risk.
the average investment in this venture is 1.15 billion -- not exactly a fortune by MD standards. (i've spent more than that on lottery tickets in the past month.) if LA walked away with my investment, my EVE experience would not be diminished.
i think people forget (or haven't realized) that the MD forum is for all intents and purposes, a role-playing forum. some people are more hard core about role playing a venture a capitalist or angel investor than others and take every audit and investment very seriously. others are just playing internet spaceships and do not really care about "MD rep points," calculating NAV or the number that appears in their wallet. to me, this difference is where some of the conflict and drama arises. |

Just a quick mid-month update before someone thinks I've been hit by a bus (touch wood). Everything is going well. Station trading is making good profits. Other market 'activities' have to this date been pulled off both successfully and profitability. Some long term speculation stock I have held for a while has been unloaded for a sizeable profit, and re-invested into new markets I have outlined as 'potentials'.
I invite any current investor to contact me IG if they have any other enquiries.

First month interest payments made. Any problems let me know.
Accidentally sent Taigatoo twice as much interest as I should have. If you could send the excess back that would be appreciated.

Edited by: Lord Arbalest on 01/07/2010 14:36:04 Just a update. Having a few problems with downloading the new patches, namely windows not allowing the auto-updater to work and me having to download the entire client again. Alas, I have recently moved and am currently on a VERY slow internet connection.
I've currently got the client installing but the speed is.... 8000bytes/sec. 88 hours to go.....
Plan to leave it going, also plan on switching ISP. Hopefully I should be able to log in on Saturday to finish up this bond and return everyone's ISK.
Will keep everyone updated through this post.

Bad news, good news.
Bad news is that I am still without access to an up-to-date version of the EVE client, and therefore unable to log in and finish up this current bond.
Good news is that I have managed to get in contact with a good friend who will be paying off this bond for me until I am able to log back in and repay him.
I will post when he informs me he has paid everyone, although, you will probably know before me as your wallets will be blinking shortly.
