Player skill is not a factor in eve pvp? So what happens when you have a player who understands all the stuff you listed as being 'outside' the battle fights a player who knows arse all bout how to fit a ship? Yeah, thought so.. Also Halo twitch kiddies who know every single camp spot on the map or Wow players that have absolutely no tactics available to them past making sure you are a higher level than your target is real combat? Lulz..

Err. Did you just prove my point? The point being that players who know more about the complex nature of combat will beat anybody that hasn't properly prepared before combat?
Besides, the former would win since he knows all that plus fitting while the latter only knows of fitting.
Heh, righto mate. Eve combat is obviously fail as it rewards the pilot who learns to play the game and harshly punishes the pilot who thought that all he had to do to pwn everyone and everthing in sight was buy a character and go kill everything with his 60 mil sp toon of death with its uber leet epic gea... err faction fitted faction ship. Eve is all about competition and not a whit of its design is given to making that an easy process to learn or to master.

Aww. Did somebody once have their ass whopped in Halo? As a former Halo player I know you are speaking out of your ass, since the best players on Halo are the most mobile, this is a simple fact of Halo as the good weapons are all spread out. Or they hog the vehicles.
No at all. I played the crap out of halo multiplayer when it first hit the pc and loved the game for all the seeming variety it had with all the different weapons and vehicals. However after a few days or so everyone figured out that you either sniped with a pistol or sniped with the sniper rifle from a camping spot to be competative and it quickly lost its charm after a few months. I left it to the twitch kiddies after that and never looked back.

anti-wow fanboyism detected!
Well considering I have a wow account with several decently leveled characters I'm talking from experience. Wow is all about the gear and the grind. In wow you literally can pwn from day one with a purchased character and the endgame suffers heavily due to this one fact if you actually like true competition instead of having the game fight for you.
Originally by: Jerid Verges The point here is that, even in a game like Halo, or BattleStations Midway, or a bunch of other games. Even a total noob can still kill the best of us. In Eve this is pretty much not going to happen at all. New people will get pwnt (I think I remember being a week into Eve and remember loosing a Navitas to a canflipper because I didn't know shooting back would let him shoot me), if you have a social newbie join a corp it really speeds up the learning process but makes it difficult on socially awkward loners.
Working as intended? Go play all those games you listed if you want meaningless simple game mechanics that cater to the lowest common denominator.

Don't confuse knowledge with skill now. If I tell you all the rules of basketball it doesn't mean you can actually shoot the ball into the net because you don't have the skills. Most MMO's require knowledge but no skill, if I stand behind someone and tell them exactly how to fit thier ship when to engage, when to run, when to orbit they most likely won't be missing any critical skills to accomplish the task.
Don't confuse physical coordination with skill as it takes mental coordination to excel in eve and not mindless twitch reactions that even a moron could do.. In eve knowledge is king and plays a huge part in how 'skilled' you are in playing the game on all levels. Which I guess is where moast of the hate on the forums comes from. The kids who failed math and the other basic intellectual staples but can get all net from half court try to play the game and fail miserably. Then they race to the forums and make threads like this.
