Greetings fellow capsuleers.
Let me introduce to you a sweet little tool i recently released which allows you to easily create new overview settings.
First give your preset a name. "Mining", "Fleet", "Reds only", "Missions" are good choices.
Second: Simply click the Checkboxes within each category next to the entities you want to watch out for ingame. (or de-select the ones on the right to hide members of your corp or fleet for example)
When you are done press the button to generate the overview.xml. You will be prompted to save it to your disc, to be specific, it has to be placed inside your \EVE\Overview\ Directory.
On Windows 7 and Windows Vista it is usually C:\Users\username\Documents\EVE\Overview\
After you saved the file in the right directory, you can import it ingame. Make sure to 'load' it too, otherwise you wont see any difference
Best of all it runs completely on my webserver. No need to download any potentially infected exe-files. (Though you will be prompted to download the overview.xml. duhh)

Edited by: Luminality on 05/05/2010 15:33:53 Also a few entries seem to be unused or at least very out of date, please let me know if you find another one or one that IS actually still used somewhere.
Always grateful for constructive criticism.

Originally by: Catari Taga What's missing however are some checkboxes to check/uncheck all within the groups you set up IMO.
thats already a planned feature.
Originally by: Catari Taga What's also missing are all the things that are missing from the in game interface, e.g. sleeper NPCs (959-961) - unless you hid them in some group where I overlooked them.
Sleeper NPC are toggled by the Pirate NPC checkbox. This is (still!) exactly like it works ingame too. Basically this and the Mission NPC checkboxes (both ingame and on my script) toggles a list of 121 and 18 IDs. Thanks to you we know that 959 & 961 are sleepers, so maybe i'll create seperate checkboxes for Sleepers, Guristas, etc.
As for the rest of the Hostile NPC Category, should i group the Mission [Amarr/Min/Cald/etc] Ships into one checkbox, OR group it by faction, OR by shiptype, OR leave it as it is?

Originally by: Catari Taga um, ingame I can right-click and remove sleepers from my overview and pirate NPC stays checked.
yes as long as a single one of the group of 121 (or 18 for the mission npc) is shown it will appear as checked

Originally by: Donald Brightstar Looks good. Any chance of getting the "Move Up / Move Down" functionality added to the States section?
this will be one of the "global settings" which are right next on my To-Do List.
Originally by: Tonto Auri No. Because it's name is always localized unless you changed it. Which means, that "Documents" is not the "default" place. Every localization has it's own default name for "My documents" folder. Stupid? Well... That's the Microsoft way.
For all you people with Win7/Vista %USERPROFILE%\Documents\EVE\Overview\ should be the correct path, regardless of the OS language. WinXP definately wants its paths localized though. there is actually an OS and (browser-)language detection script on the website, which was supposed to display a different helptext depending on the location of the visitor. tbh i got lazy, but on the other hand you got your hands on the tool way earlier. anyway it should be pretty clear where to save the file by now, eh?
Originally by: CCP Applebabe Thanks for sharing this with us. It's so cool !
Yay \o/
Originally by: Tonto Auri Got a suggestion... how about (up)loading existing XML settings to be used as template for further tweaking?
Oh unfortunately i have to confess im not that good at PHP
Originally by: Tonto Auri Also, expanding the subcategory into second column (in place of states or pushing states to the right) instead of in-column expansion should reduce the need for page scrolling, making overall experience better. IMO.
yeah, good idea indeed. the new version has more npc grouped together and a show-all-checkbox for ships. this will hopefully reduce your mousewheel mileage
thank you very much for all your donations. they are much appreciated!
there have been quite many codechanges recently, please report any bugs like wrongfully displayed (or hidden) entities per PM. ty

Edited by: Luminality on 24/05/2010 13:22:08 greetings! theres a new update to the tool which introduced global settings and focuses on the ship label. try the special one :] its made of awesome and win.
theres also a little change to the exporting procedure. click the radio buttons next to the export-button to specifiy which part you want to save. either both, type presets or just the global settings. for example select "type presets only" if you just want to have your new mining overview in one file. it should be pretty self-explanatory though.
dont hesitate to leave feedback, feature requests or ISKies

thank you for writing me! alas, its not possible to display the transversal speed (or any other information for that matter) right on the label. you can however try my new "special preset" and hide the type column in favour of transversal speed. methinks thats as close to uncompromising awesomeness as you can get (or just roll caldari and fire ze missiles!)

Hola camaradas!
i removed scan probes from the overview tool until CCP made it clear whether or not it's considered an exploit.
more info can be found in Germinus' link 2 posts above
personally i still think it offers pretty nifty features

Originally by: Germinus According to CCP Applebabe says exploit even though in this thread "it's so cool!!"
in defence of Applebabe i have to say that in the early days of the tool where she commented scanprobes were not yet included.

Originally by: Tsubutai When I was playing around with it, it didn't append a .xml extension on the created files - is that intentional?
on my pc (both FF/IE) it exports as something.xml. a corpm8 told me that its missing the extension on his system, since he also used win7 and FFox i'm in the dark maybe your windows is set to hide known extensions. beats me
