What do you guys think about using the carrier to mine strategy?
Is it worth it over all?

The ABSOLUTE max yield you can get, with your highslots gimped to have all DCUs and with 2x T2 and 1x T1 mining drone rigs, you max out at 1219 m3/min. A Hulk tops out at 1953 m3/min (and even my basic skills get close to 1500). All the while the Carrier is much harder to skill for and a much more tempting target.
To beat out a Hulk, you need a max-skilled and rigged Mom/S-Carrier, and you only get 1975 (22 higher than the Hulk) with T1 rigs, with two T2 rigs you can max out at 2147. The thing is that it will cost 20B+ and 1.5-2 years of training to do that (and you're still a target that people would travel from 20j away to attack).
(these numbers are without ganglinks, but the ganglinks will scale similarly)
Just stick with the Hulk, it's made for what it does and it does it well.

You'd make a ton more using a carrier to run anomalies with versus mining in anything.

I put together a Hulk with 3x T2 strips with T2 crystals and 2x T2 MLUs and 5 Mining Drone 2s with two Mining Drone Augmentor 2 rigs and it topped out at 1953, while the S-Carrier's 25 Mining drone 2s outmined ithe Hulk, barely, when the S-Carrier was rigged for mining drones.
I'm not saying that it's a realistic fit (and the T2 mining drone rigs even less), but the S-Carrier can out-mine a Hulk if you really want it to (it's still not worth it though).

Is still pretty much what it comes down to. A S-Carrier could do such a thing, but you'd be pretty much gimping yourself..
Added to that, you can only fit normal mining lasers on the S-Carrier and that gimps your range to an approximate max of 13km.
Instead of the strippers with a max range of approximately 23km.
I reckon the small extra amount that the S-carrier could get would be nullified by having to move every few minutes to grab a new roid.
Personally I'd say having to move the Ore you grab every minute (if it doesn't already stop your lasers because the hold is full due to misstiming) to your Corp hanger would be a pain in the buttocks.

I think it's an excellent idea to use a supercarrier to mine. Remember that it has a much larger cargo hold too.

You have an ideal scenario. For your carrier to get max yield you need to literally sit on the roids. Otherwise you lose too much yield because your drones needs to travel back and forth towards the roids. All that drone travel time really adds up in the end so you will never get a hulks yield with a supercarrier.

Last time I tried to mine with mining drones from a carrier it won't give me any ore. We did it with a fleet 10 carriers to provoke an attack but I learned that for some reason that it just wouldn't work. This was just before the fighter bombers came out (to help with a timeline).

This. Havens and sanctums give you all the isk you need to buy mins and then some. If motivated, loot after and melt down the loot.
