I really don't like you, whoever you are, you're just a set of brake lights in between me and where I want to be. And frankly, this is in your best interests. But it is funny when you have a job title like "Games Master" that makes you think you're actually powerful or important and think that I'm about to respect it without losing a fist fight first.
Is this a reference to something or did someone just beat a keyboard with a stick until they got a semi-coherent post? |

I think it's because CCP listens to the players. All of them.
And all of the players have their own playstyles and opinions.
We all want our playstyle to be competitive with any others. We don't want it destroyed.
All the others do want it destroyed, or at least, hindered, in order to benefit their own. And thus you get...
Everyone wants a buff. Any buff nerfs something else. Everyone will champion their own cause, to the detriment of all other causes..
So everyone who isn't exactly like you becomes an 'enemy'. I mean, how can you not get negative feelings towards someone directly or indirectly wanting to hinder your enjoyment of the game?
If you make highsec safer you nerf suicide gankers. Less safe, you nerf carebears. Nerf dramiels, some frigate pilots are happy, dramiel pilots lose their fun.
And yes, it is almost always about fun. All the "I Win" button nonsense, "Easy Money, No Risk" nonsense, it's all a load of bull. People play the way they do because they enjoy it. You're not getting paid in real life, so no amount of 'reward' can make up for "I am really having fun with this."
It is, of course, not fun to always lose. So of course, less powerful ships/not FoTM/etc etc get annoyed when a certain thing beats them. The people doing it are doing it because it's fun, not because they get something tangible out of 'winning'......
And thus? Flame war. Side A hates Side B because Side B makes them less viable. Side B is justifiably angry, because Side A wants to take their toys away.
Neither side is really wrong. They both just want to have fun. They both just want their own style to be not harmed, but it becomes us or them. Someone has to lose. The other side are no longer 'people who disagree', but 'my greatest enemies, trying to ruin my game'.
Thus: Rude generalizations. If you like it, iwin button, no skill pvper, no risk, too much reward... if you don't like it, stupid whiner, carebear, blobber, lazy, etc...
It's a sad mechanic, really, but there is no way around it. Things have to be changed to keep the game alive. It's impossible to make perfect balance in such a complex game. The sides can never be even. (If there were, say, 10 different piece layouts for chess, and each side chose one, balance issues would arise there, too.)
I guess everyone just wants to have their fun, and feels threatened by other people who want to take it away. This builds on itself until the sides are so angry at each other that they want to hurt each others playstyles just to get revenge and 'tears'. |
