Edited by: Babs Johnson on 05/12/2004 05:38:49 Well I am on my way to busting my fourth damsel of the day from prison, watching my Raven putt-putt along the 91 km distance from the entrance to the mission, where I killed all the rats, to the prison where I have to get the damsel.
And as my Raven is putt-putting along at 195 m/s, the fastest it will go with a named afterburner, I am sitting here strumming my fingers on the desk, and scratching my nose, and watching the dog sleep on the floor, and I'm thinking, gee, I can hear the television on down the hall, and what's on in there sounds like so much more fun than what I'm doing right now, watching my Raven putt-putt at 195 m/s.
Is this what CCP intends with this deadspace business? That we sit here and scratch our butts while our ships creep along for 91 km?
Deadspace is a bad idea. The response here on these forums is overwhelmingly negative. Let's do something else with the combat missions, shall we?

I agree.
As far as I can see, CCP's intention must have been to make the missions as boring as possible. Perhaps so that people stop doing them out of sheer boredom ?

Nicholas 'il chap, if you spent more time on missions and less time stealing ore you might see a fun side to things, but as you want everything for nothing I doubt any mission (cept "Cruise about Torrinos and steal things") would butter your muffin.

Is it a lvl 3 or 4 agent mission?
Lvl 3's can be done in a Crow with a 10MN Afterburner. No problems at all with speed or distance. Lvl 4's I don't know so much about yet. Still wondering about setups for those. Took on a lvl 4 mission with a couple of buddies and met a Domi + support. I was in my Crow webbing and making myself a target while my buddies bombed the crap ut of the Domi.

Agreed. Deadspace ruined the fun of the missions, and that's a kick in the bottom especially to new and half-experienced players who wonder what snail game they are paying for.
More, Eve pretty muck looks like Horizons now, no loot in missions = half the fun gone. I haven't found any worth using mod in two days, and stopped doing missions till I can fly a BS and join corp in 0.0

Question, my raven goes around 600 m/s with my setup. why only 195?
you dont need a great deal of tanking or anything really other than 4x active hardeners, 6 seige launchers and then just use the rest of the space for speed boosting stuff and/or sensor boosters.
i got all my lo slots as injecters, i got med slots as a named sensor booster and a 100mn II and the hardeners...
no prob whatso ever 'putt putting my way to the damsel' -Nirat

From what I've read, CCP's reasoning for "slowing down" deadspace was to stop players moving away from the NPCs and firing at them from a distance while remaining in relative safety.
It's a shame it had to come to this and that there wasn't another way to handle this outcome rather than slow the entire thing down, especially when nothing is going on at all.
I am hoping that the improvements to afterburners help this situation and can cause the ship to move a little faster.

Thanks to all the moaning over the last couple months by some of the ganker whiners about how it's not fair to the 0.0 players that mission runners can now kill BSs in empire the changes like deadspace and infrequent can drops have been put into place to "balance" the mission runners and the 0.0 players.
In all reality the only thing CCP has done is slow down a game that's already painfully slow and taken a lot of the fun out of things for those of us that don't PVP for a living in Eve. Many of the current changes are just poor choices by CCP made to pacify one faction of the customer base that seems to cry the loudest at every conceived "non-advantage" they can come up with.
Just one question CCP: Why is it thought fair by you that in non-mission related combat you can use any module including MWD and any style of combat to kill NPCs including kiting, yet mission runners are now restricted to these new arbitrary conditions of deadspace?
CCP needs to stop playing favorites and even things back out so that combat is combat no matter where it takes place and rats not only drop cans but drop appropriate loot for the ship type destroyed. Between the rats not dropping cans regularly, the silly added difficulty of deadspace, and greatly reduced rewards for missions across the board, it's just not really profitable or fun anymore. The way things are now Eve will become a game of PVP and major alliances only because there will be no other way to succeed in the game. If that's the goal, then CCP should just say so now and let everyone decide if they want to continue on with the game or not.

Deadspace missions absolutely suck.
Stop kiting?
Well now I come in with a sniper Apoc, with sensor boosters and tracking enhancers, tachs with radios, and kill every sh*t over 100km, then warp back to station, get any frig with oversized boosters, blow the prison and pick the damsel.
This is a lot worst than the old DD.
Bring the old DD back and dump this mission design in the trashheap.

Ohhh for god sake.. ANYONE would be bored doing lvl3 missions in a battleship.........
Get yourself a cruiser... or even a frig (and yes you can do lvl 3 missions in a frigate, I've done a couple in the last week.), then strap on an oversized afterburner and your off...
If your such a carebear to not want to get out of your nice safe battleship then to be honest, its your own fault.

What CCP should do is if you warp in 40k or more they should make all the enemy attack you. They should place more drones in missions. They should respawn drones faster. The main problem is not speed but the area of aggro is too small. They should respawn more rats if you dock. More rats than if you just did the entire job without docking.
Letting missions be done at range is wrong. The rats have beacons to sense danger. If I had a complex in my controll I would want someone to come in at 60km and then move to 100km soo I could gather my forces. Level 3 should have more frigates and drones not more cruisers and BS. The small targets are the hard things. They should also place shields around the brothel and prisons. --------------------------

Guide to lvl 3 dead space missions :
1. Warp in with geddon equipped with megapulse lasers and radio crystals.
2. Sit still shooting everything.
3. Warp out to go pick up a ship that has an oversized ab.
4. Come back and pick up the loot/damsel.
I like the idea of deadspace missions, but atm they are just big spread out spawns where you can't use mwd. If all missions become deadspace, the deadspace missions are like they are now, and the time/reward ratio for them remaisn the same, I will most likely quit mission running. As a dedicated agent runner, that would hurt me a lot.

To fix the kiting problem.. just make every NCP in a deadspace mission be able to web you from 100km. That way, after you finish them off, you can actually fly fast to the prison and finish the mission without the long wait...
