I tend to leave about 3 x Giant containers at various points throughout as field where I feel the most easily accessable valued Ores are. Then move In, mine them, fill the 3 differnet Giant containers. Warp to the local station where my Indy's waiting. Empty 3 x containers, repeat process.
Voila, secure, safe, lovely juvely ^^
Obviously takes a while to recoup cost of cans but worth it long term. Peace of mind.
Having said that Im current just jetting and hauling with my bro In a remote system hehe ________________________________________________

Can't anchor them close enough together to make it worthwhile.
Originally by: Excavation Svcs btw...can someone tell me why native english speakers so often mix up the I and the E? No foreign speaker does that. Examples: grEIfers,wEIner,thEIf...
No foreign speaker? How about the person who started this thread. As for the the rest, it's because they can't remember "I before E except after C or when sounded like 'A' as in 'neighbor' and 'weigh'".

The way i see it, stashing ore in ejected cans is an exploit. Im pretty sure its not working as intended when you eject something from your cargo hold that holds about 500 times your ships size.
My cargo hold is 400 but the cans i jettison has 27000 worth of space? What the.. Maybe the inside of a can is in an different dimension?
Anyhow, thats my two cents.

Seems to me those that are whining aobut ore thieves are arguing the wrong problem.
We all know its stupid to pack jetcans and leave them lying around for hours on end. We all know it would be wiser to use secured cans.
IF secure cans are too small, ask for larger secure cans... Likely easier for CCP to deal with than trying to monitor people... Headquarters: Nein, Republic Parliament Bureau |

Edited by: themule on 06/12/2004 01:18:59 I have no problem with ore theifs. I have never met one where I mine. But to everyone who says "Use a secure can.". I would be glade too if you wouldn't mind the price of ships and most mods increasing by about 2x. The price of goods is kept this low because of jet mining using a secure can would cut my profit from mining by about 50%.

Put 3-6 Secure containers around an asteroid field, anchor them.
Take your hauler to the nearest base, bookmark it as "mining camp."
Bring your mining cruiser and relevant tools/mods/and maybe a shuttle to the mining camp.
Now go out with your mining cruiser and mine into your secure containers, 3 containers give you about an hour worth of mining, 6 give you about 2 hours worth, and so forth.
When they are full, head back to camp and get your hauler, empty out the cans and take the ore back to camp. At the end of the week, take your hauler and move that Ore to your refinery or the market to sell.
That's how you run a low-risk solo mining operation.
The only problem is strip miners, who might come to your asteroid field, and clean it out, so if you're a hard core solo miner, you need to setup multiple camps.
It takes alot of work and some investment in the beginning, but it makes solo mining much easier.
Anyway, in the future you can attack ppl who steal from jet cans so problem solved.

exactly i dont mind ore thieves, its just another "profession", but do let me have a chance of some sort of retialiation. I have risks in whatever profession I choose however ore thieving has little risk until you meet the person willing to sacrifice a ship to kill you.
And ignore ore thieves, mining to a secure can is for the most part ridiculous. And the argument of using multiple cans is just as ridiculous. To the person who suggested that... you tried setting up multiple secure cans ? can't be done near each other so doing a setup of secure cans is basically useless because you cant get them in range of what you need to mine

1.The throwing overboard of goods from necessity, in order to lighten a vessel in danger of wreck: a ship jettisoning wastes; a pilot jettisoning aircraft fuel. 2.To discard (something) as unwanted or burdensome: jettisoned the whole marketing plan.
If you mine on your own using container's which you JETTISONED from your ship then deal with the risk of someone taking what you have "thrown away". You have resigned ownership of your ore, you have no rights to retaliate if anyone helps them selves.
Deal with this as you see fit and stop *****ing
MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online game
1) find one of the massive to be your mate 2) Have him sit in a hualer next to your jettisoned can and scoop the ore as you mine *Remember to leave a unit or so in the can to keep it alive tho.
If you have no friends, mine in a less populated system, rather than a 0.9/1.0 HUB system If you cant manage this, purchase some secure cans, secure mining require more effort than insecure mining!
Completly Secure mining should always cost isk or require much effort.
Eve is all about Profit vs Risk, if you sacrifice security your profit is higher, but at greater risk.
NB: Ore theifs are a good feature of eve, without them there is no risk

NB: Ore theifs are a good feature of eve, without them there is no risk ====
Ore thieves have no risk.
In fact miners have more risk than pirates. Miners are usually sitting there half asleep watching TV, pirates are awake and alert, ready to logoff at the first sign of hostilities.
In a war, it's not the soldiers who die by the hundreds of thousands, its the unarmed civilians in the streets, the soldiers have bunkers, triple-A, guns, its the miners who are sitting there sucking rock, wide open to any 2-bit a$$hole with a gun.
I'd rather be flying a Kestrel than a mining barge. Least a Kestrel can fight back or run away.
Besides, you can make good money both Mining and Hunting, why would you choose to be making money while minimally armed when you could make money fully armed?
I disagree with almost everybody in this thread, miners and carebears have the hardest time in eve, combat players can have fun with minimal risk compared to tradeskill types.

Dag namit!
As long as you use jett cans and unanchored Sec containers your asking for it. I hate orethiefs too but in an in-character way. OOC I like it.
I lost a secure can in 1.0 because I left it unguarded. Was upset ofc but it left me feeling strangely satisfied is a way. There is acctualy more things to the game than pressing the F-keys and locking targets. Mining isn't just a mindnumbing activity because of this. There are reason to plan mining aswell as combats. There are reason to work in teams. There are things you do wrong because you didn't know, learn or remember.
Now, I don't want to force my way of thinking upon you so keep that in mind when you read the following:
Please don't make ore-theft impossible. I think it's logical that anyone can lift things from an unlocked can or a jett-can that's basically used as a trashcan. If you don't trust people or can't find a way to work out an agreement and work in teams you'll just have to take the risk or haul-ass. Few people like being robbed of their ore, I sure don't, but I sure as hell have a feeling that IF I lose it I didn't do my homework. You have that feeling to, I'm sure of it.
