First off , i'm not a Eve expert, but i hate these ore theifs. I cant mine anywere in empire becuse of these theifs. I know some people would complain about this and write like this " OMG CAREBEAR 0wn0rs" and like "mine in low sec space, n00b" . My answer on that is: I dont wanna risk my ship just becuse some young kids thinks they are so cool by stealing. I dont wanna go into low sec space for minning, i want to mine in empire space.
i'm almost positive that alot of players have these problems, its no fun if u mined kernite for 10 hours then a 11 years old kid come and steal it all. and think they are so cool. and i know there is Secuire cans, but as a kinda "new" player and havent got the 10 millions and 100 millions cans.
i'm sorry if my grammar suck , i'm swedish.
CCP, you gotta fix this ! i know its a game mechanic PEACE TO THE PEOPLE

Use secure containers and anchor them. Problem solved.
PS: Your grammar is fine.

Alot of people seem to forget that jet cans were not intended to be used for mining, secure cans were, so CCP isn't going to do drek about it. You want safety use secure cans and anchor them......end of story.
End Transmission.

I've never once had problems with ore thieves in almost 2 years of solo mining without secure cans. The one time I *did* see an ore thief, I deployed a dozen ogres and locked him. He got the message and went elsewhere.

Edited by: Thora Unni on 05/12/2004 21:11:32 Ore Thieves are a sad problem of eve.. Though if you are mining kernite you should have enough skills and equipment to be able to mine .7 .6 systems with few people in them.. that is the key that are 5000 systems a believe it or not most of them are empty... so it is generarlly not too hard to mine in a system with low traffic it won't stop the problem but it does eliminate it a great deal. I've only had too encounters with an ore thief. lost about 400k ISK total... of the 100 mil or so that I've made over the months. (orginal character as well) so it's not that huge a problem if your careful. sadly mining in jet cans is a risk.. and will always be a risk I think..
I'm sorry if my grammer sucks.. I have bad grammer.

Righto, Can thief topic is done and over with. Right now despite your grief, the situation is about as balanced as I think we can expect.
Though I hear criminal flagging will potentialy have a role to play in this... IE maybe you can set even a nonsecure can to be used by only certain people if you want, and if someone uses it and takes something they get flagged... Could be exploited though...
So you need to realize the price of some of your security lies in losing some of it elsewhere, as concord is just a bunch of stupid NPC bots that can't really recognize a legit action, from a evil one. I just pretend they are all paid off, (notice all the NPC rats at gates? hmmmm), and taught to shoot first and ask questions later when they arn't...
Long story short, your new, so please don't be offended when I and others say, you must be doing something very wrong to be getting ore stolen every day, or even once a week.
Pick a less heavily trafficked system for starters... ore thieves are lazy, and most prefer to pray only on those like you who are new etc. VEry few actually seem to do it as a chosen illegal profession, if they did they would risk it all and do it in low sec where a guy like me and many others would pop thier indy, and maybe even pod em for even coming within 5KM of me and my can, be it a jet can or otherwise.
This means they focus around the highway systems, and the constellations near them.
Have a poke around the galaxy map, and find a nice quiet system that meets your security requirements, and give it a go. Chances are very good that if you go a mere 5-10 jumps in any direction from where you are now, you won't ever be robbed again.
I also been mining since the game was released (though not as my exclusive or chosen profession, we all gotta do it now and then), and I can say that I have never once seen a can thief, nor ever had to have my guns/drones do my talking in thier pressance. This is a VERY big universe, there is no need to camp the populated systems, especialy once you get to the point you can haul stuff.

see the resen why we use Jet cans isd because they can hold actualy ore but secure cans they cant even hold over a few thousand worth of ore unless u make cans that actualy can be put outside and ancred and bew secured with atlest over 27,000.0m¦ then we will stop argowing
Caldari will once again rise above the gallente and take back Caldari prime! Image done by Denrace |

You must be very unlucky then. I've been playing for over nine months and most of that time I have been mining. I've never met an ore thief yet. Move to a quiet system and get to know the locals. It not only alerts you to ore thieves in the area but gains you new friends and gives you something to do while you mine. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Simple, use secure cans or get one of those new fancy mining barges, which are like an indy with a kick ass mining laser. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Quote: use secure cans
for everyone that says this, realize what it would mean. Secure cans are ridiculously small. A miner would mine for a couple minutes then have to go get indy, empty can, transport ore a few hops, get miner, repeat. This would mean a miner would be spending 2/3 more time mining. that would mean that your ore costs would go up 2/3 and and the items made from them would go up. I'm sure many miners would be ok with using secure only cans if you are ok with paying more for the ore.

My combat skills are pretty pathetic, and therefore when I mine in my osprey, I cant depend on the one remaining high slot (launcher) or drones to save. Therefore, when not group mining, I mine in 0.9/1.0 systems for pyro, scord and veld. I have not once had my ore stolen.
What I have done is found the closet 1.0 and 0.9 systems to my corps base, which took a bit of time, but was worthwhile. At most in those systems I mine in, I make sure there are no more than around 13 or so. I pick a belt which no one else is in and get going. Had no problems with ore thiefs
All it takes is a bit of time looking around for some quieter systems to mine in and you'll be fine.

Bhuh? You were mining kern 10 hours straight and didn't think to move ANY of it back to station? How many cans did you have lying about? 5? 10!? You deserve to be robbed if you're THAT clueless.
It would take close to an hour for someone to steal all that. Even if they had several indys, you'd still be able to save SOME of it. =/ ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |
