Originally by: genette devo ccp doesnt have to prove anything, eula's are much like the UCMJ, designed so that no action you can take is in compliance with every portion of it, rendering everyone banable if they becoming annoying or inconvenient, yes that applies to the "real eve" 0.0 prim donnas too, eve is about money, try to kill the cash cow and you will be banned
Positive pr considerations say that would be highly unlikely. Banning 9000 rmt abusers is one thing but banning 9000 angry legitimate paying players for staging a protest would be an unmitigated pr disaster right when they need to be at the top of their game with all the upcoming stuff like incarna and dust. Again I'm not condoning anything like this to actually happen but it certainly wouldn't hurt my feelings if the rest of eve, if only briefly, experienced what the players the trailers always use to sell the game feel when they try to play their part of the game.

This actually happened several years ago. Players went to Jita, undocked in shuttles and ejected to go back for more. Soon, the space around 4-4 was flooded with shuttles, eventually crashing the node. And yes, accounts were given temporary bans.
Here's the pic so you don't say, "pics or it didn't happen"

1. Announcement that this was going to happen 2. People saying they intendended to go to these systems for the sole purpose of making sure they were unusable.
3. Some idiot saying all the major 0.0 alliances were doing this because of the lag problem.
And I quote from Rule 7 of the EULA
Quote:
CONDUCT A. Specifically Restricted Conduct Your continued access to the System and license to play the Game is subject to proper conduct. Without limiting CCP's rights to control the Game environment, and the conduct of the players within that environment, CCP prohibits the following practices that CCP has determined detract from the overall user experience of the users playing the Game:
1. You may not take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the System.
tl;dr
People purposely announced that they were going to crash the trade hub nodes on purpose, by doing so they violated this rule IF crashes happen. Since many 0.0 parties have indicated they are going to do this, hence they are announcing they are going to violate that EULA.

And who exactly do CCP ban? every account with a character in Jita? every account with a character belonging to a 0.0 alliance in Jita? every account with a character on the same account as an character belonging to a 0.0 alliance? every account linked to another account that has a 0.0 character in Jita?
Swap Jita for Motsu, Rens, Dodixie etc and whichever option you choose you are banning alot of innocents

people acting as if ccp has to prove anything is laughable, they don't it's their world, they can recklessly speculate whatever they want and ban whoever they want and in the end nothing you can do about it. it's not like you can take it to the supreme court.

That would give them some really good PR: "oh, we just banned 1k people because they were... uh... fighting? In hisec? Under a wardec? Which is... the game mechanic supposed to allow for this?"

should and could are 2 drastically different things people aren't talking about banning for war decs they are talking about people trying to deliberatly overload the nodes for trade hubs as part of a 0.0 emo hissyfit

What was it again that one of Crumplecorn's DesuSigs said? "It doesn't lag because the server is insufficient; it lags because people keep going until it lags!" Wise words. If these 0.0 folks don't like lag, then maybe they shouldn't be using blobbing as their primary fleet tactic. No sympathy here.

Every paying eve player has the right in my opinion to have a say when things are obviuosly broken. You can call it whining or what ever. I brought this up because i believe its a legitimate way of protesting and getting our point across to CCP and the rest of the player base.
I would think CCP would be more upset if I sent to every MMO web site an indepth letter of whats really going on in eve and this letter was published.

I doubt "every MMO web site" would take you seriously or publish anything based on your opinions. I know I don't take you seriously. . Support EVE's future: Vote Cat o'Ninetails for CSM! |

Sadly, the game mechanics only encourage bigger fleets. There's a specific mathematical discussion about the issue, where you have sides where each participant has equal strength, where if one side outnumbers the other by one participant the outcome is extremely biased towards that N+1 side. In EVE it's the principle of "bigger blob wins."
There is no game mechanic punishing bigger fleets, and there is basic mathematics rewarding bigger fleets, so they use bigger fleets.
There have been any number of discussions in F&I forum about ways to discourage large fleets. Finding something that can't be abused by attacker or defender is pretty hard.

I think the idea is fun but do you honestly think blackmailing them like that is smart or will work? They know the lag is causing serious problems but you want to cut your nose of to spite your face? It's useless as a protest, it will just get a few lazy carebear moans but most of us carebears will like the idea.

Edited by: Terrigal on 13/05/2010 04:39:43 I do not wish to DAM the game I love to play, But the longer this issue continues (lag) the more bitterness and hardening of veterans resolve. This will just increase angst between PVP vs Carebears maybe to the point of all out war. It'll be the old goonie attitude of well our games broke oh well lets break your game.
So in saying this it doesnt solve anything between the player base and its funametally a recipe for disaster and it shouldnt be our problem because its CCP's. Fix IT you know how. $$$ i guess oh thats right your $$$ went on Dust514 a game ill never play.

lag will never be fixed, soon as ccp fixes current lag the 1337 0.0 tough guys will increase fleet size til the new lag threshold is met, don't see a real incentive

What if it was possible for a single simulation grid to support 20,000 ships at the one time, with no more lag than an abandoned Unknown system?
How many 10k fleets are there roaming around the place?

I've never been in a large fleet fight and probably never will but I know I'd be as mad as hell if that was my game style. I do see CCP doing testing on it all the time and I'm sure they are desperate to fix it. The new mechanics changes in nul sec seemed total failure in reducing fleet sizes too. Anyway I hope I'm hauling stuff in Jita when you guys turn up, it will be fun.
EDIT: To earlier posters about fleet size, my understanding is that fleet sizes have to be a lot less than before to avoid lag. This is not an issue of people bringing in too much compared to previously.

Because EVE is PVP centric If its at all possible to bring 10k ships to a battle the eve population will. So its more the case, CCP this will happen so you get your head around it not the other way around.
