Hey guys, which covert-ops ship would you prefer for exploration / scanning and probing... and why? really new to covops ships and would like to gain some more insight between the two ships and what people think about each!
Thanks a lot in advance for the feed back :)

Anathema.
Best slot layout, capacitor, fitting.
Helios : lack a high slot to put a salvager Buzzard : ugly :p Cheetah : hard to fit, but faster and rather agile Anathema : Good looking :)

3 highslots is handy - cloak, probelauncher + something (salvager, covert cyno). So cross out Helios.
Next main feature is mobility - i.e. speed and agility. Cheetah is absolute leader here, with its low mass, high base speed and ability to fit 3 Nanofibers. Buzzard has only 2 lowslots, and Anathema is much heavier.
Anathema is exactly like Cheetah in terms of slots, but is heavier (so longer align and much lower speeds). On the other hand, Anathema has significantly more grid and a tad more CPU, so you can fit more stuff on it without offlining - Analyzer, codebreaker, or even tackle.
Overall, Cheetah is the best in what CovOps should be doing, with Anathema being second by providing more options and looking really cool. --- EvE online. New game every 6 months. |

Edited by: Alsyth on 12/05/2010 09:55:11 Having both, I really think Anathema is better.
3 nano
MWD, analyser, codebreaker*2
Expanded laucher, salvager, cloak
Try and fit that on a cheetah... To put a mwd on this is really painful, so the speed argument is gone, unless you replace nanofibers by fitting mods, and then... Anathema is faster AND more agile AND still have more EHP (for what it's worth).
If you don't want a MWD or anything that's a little harder to fit, then yes, Cheetah is slightly better.

I'm not quite sure how it's these days, but at least on the Buzzard it's nice to have a small capacitor battery on it, so that you don't run out of capacitor each time you warp more from star gate to another. I don't really see speed as an issue for a covert ops. Maybe if you plan to do exploration in hostile 0.0, which isn't a great idea, but not normally.

Mobility is top-priority if you operate in 0.0 MWD + salvager is easy to fit, and for exploration I usually had no problem offlining some mods to bring analyzer/codebreaker into work - usually by the time you need to use them you dont need probe launcher or MWD immediately.
If you use covops just for exploration, and rarely for scouting - Anathema is better, hands down. --- EvE online. New game every 6 months. |

hint: deadspace AB's, sister's launcher (less cpu used)
C-types are so cheap nowadays
edit: also, 2 nano cheetah is still faster than 3 nano anathema, and even with 2nano + OD ---

For scouting/probing and giving good warpins, Cheetah is very good thanks to its speed. (600m/s while cloaked is very useful, compared to 450 with an anathema)
So... Get both :p
Anathema for exploration, Cheetah for scouting/combat probing and good cloaked speed.

I think an Anathema would do it better :p You could probably fit a Nano or even 2, and get better agility, cap...

If you want to fit THAT much stuff on poor covops, Anathema is really better. You actually will be able to ditch MAPC and replace it with Nano. Anathema also has, surprisingly, more cpu than Cheetah, so you may try to get away with only one CPU --- EvE online. New game every 6 months. |

Anathema this and that, sure. But do I need the extra CPU, if I can fit this to the Cheetah? Which is agile enough for me without nanos? Nah.. I really don't want to get Amarr Frigate to V etc., I'm ok with my rustbucket

hey guys, thanks a lot for all the responses... Electronics Upgrades 5 finishes in a couple of days, so I'm probably gonna jump into a Cheetah for now since I have Minmatar frigs at 5 =)
But regardless, I should get the Anathema as well. Again, I really appreciate the responses given in this post.

I'd say the anathema wins out in every catagory except for forward scouting for a roaming gang especially if you are the one to see if there is a bubble camp on the other side. In that role the cheeta absolutely shines with its high agility and interceptor speed. I'll also add that cov ops 5 is pretty much mandatory to fly the class as it frees up so much cpu.
With a hg snake set and a full pph implant set this baby goes 4200ms on grid and 21 au/s in warp. Nothing can catch you unless you happed to just be super unlucky and appear next to something that immediatly uncloaks you like warping into a bubble with cans or jumping in next to a smartbombing bs. There is always lag death of course but then it wouldn't matter what ship you were in then.

I've used all 4 for different applications. The arguments for and against each one have all been raised in this thread already.
Helios: If you don't need the utility high, this is easiest to fit decently and makes a great scout / tackler.
Anathema: Slower than the rest but an excellent explorations ship, easily fits all the mods.
Buzzard: About on a par with the Anathema for exploration albeit slightly more agile. You can set this up to perma run an mwd while also fitting all the analysis etc tools. Can use it to speed tank most high-sec combat plexes. I've been running 4/10's with this and a navy comet / ishkur so I can run any plex I come across without getting into a cruiser hull for 4/10's. Haven't tried this with the other cov-ops ships.
Probe: Nice on paper but a bit of a mare to fit, really needs a 1% implant to shoehorn an mwd and everything on without losing its prime advantage (speed/agi) to fitting mods in the lows/rigs. Especially noticeable without Cov-ops V. ~_~ (Retired from ship toasting. Now a professional.)

2 things:
1) fyp. probe is the T1 version
2) I managed to get a rather workable fit with the cheetah that involves more than probing/scouting, since it can actually use the covert cyno, maintain agility, have a mwd, do some ewar, and keep all slots full.

Micro Auxiliary Power Core I 2x Nanofiber Internal Structure II
2x Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
you need max fittings kills, cov ops 5, but it all fits without implants. you get 1.25grid and 2.25cpu free with this setup.
I now ask politely to try to do better and keep all slots full ---

Oh god, why are there some ship names I will ALWAYS mix up
As for that fit, yes it fits, however, I was talking about getting it to fit without gimping its advantage, therefore no fitting mods in the lows. It's good for a variety of roles sure, they all are. I think my comment was a fair summary of it's broad fitting considerations.
I don't want to encourage turning this thread into a fittings list but I have a similar fit, albeit with scram and a 125mm ac for grabbing logoffski pods . It uses a pg4 and doesn't gimp the lows with silly fitting mods. Doesn't need a sisters launcher either.
There's plenty of ways to set these ships up depending on what you want them to do. I believe the focus of this thread is on exploration / plexing setups. ~_~ (Retired from ship toasting. Now a professional.)

Very nice fit, but it's got enough room left over to use a cheaper MWD II, a Micro Batt II, and instead of the regolith another Small Shield Extender II. And even then its still got room for some changes. Anyways I'm definitely going to use a variation of that, cheers. :) -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

true, but I can assure you that the only way the anathema will be more agile than the cheetah is if you fill the lows with istabs.
3 nano anathema is still slower than the 2 nano cheetah
but yeah, the damn thing is hard to shoehorn anything but the fit I managed to come up with.
I mean, I had to invent something to slam on the last med slot because I really didn't know what to fit there.
2nd damp? no cpu. cap battery? well duh, look at the leftover grid cap recharger? hmmmm. . . oh what's dis? imperial navy cap charger uses nigh no cpu? *slams the damn thing on ship* ---

Originally by: Kingwood Cov-Ops needs tackle. I can't be the only one flying one with tackle?
too frail tbh. I tried to come up with setups that could survive a drone swarm for enough time to make initial tackle, but I always came up short of either speed or EHP.
a ship with the speed of, at most, a taranis with half of the EHP? no thanks.
thus I decided to make a cloaky probing tengu.
stuff became awesome because ship has already paid itself in stuff that was probed down and tackled and killed \o/

A stealth bomber is the way to go if you want to tackle things while cloaked. It has no targeting delay after decloaking.
