simple
CCP could sell isk for RL $$$
Good for them becuase they would receive additional money for nothing.
Good for us as CCP would recieve a boost to income to allow a greater rate of new content development
Bad for mining macro'ers whoes illegal income will suffer as a result.
and considering money comes and goes so quickly in EVE its not going to cause any game balence issues, a guy who spends $500 to get himself a assload of isk still blows up just as good in his new assult crusier with all tech 2 gear.
prob a downside I'm not seeing at the moment, but all in all its seems like the perfect way to eliminate the whole macro'er ebay thing, while giving CCP that little bit extra cash to spend on making EVE just that much better

Edited by: Mirelath on 06/12/2004 00:49:55 One of the problems with macro mining and selling is that it introduces "free money" (in game terms) to players who do not need to work for it, and which is basically coming out of nowhere. The effect that this can have on the eve economy is disasterous, especially when you imagine a rich 1 day player could buy a few billion isk - instead of doing what they should be and working for it.
Plus, the real life rich people would get everything, free money basically, and I'm pretty sure this isn't want CCP would want for EVE.
Just my opinion, but how I feel on the matter. Game currency for real life money doesn't work.
Not to mention the fact is that all the macro-miners would need to do is undercut CCP's prices and the problem stays just as much - or grows more, basically as it would be showing theoretically that CCP would condone isk for real life money.

Edited by: Phasics on 06/12/2004 05:29:32 Like I said prob a downside I didn't see
Guess its has as many Con's as Pro's
alough you could regualte the max amount of isk bought per month
and it would be far safer than giving somone $$$ on ebay
but I do agree it has the potential to create a scoure of free in game money which would prob kill the economy.
but then again

If CCP start officially assigning a RL$ value to isk, then they become liable for lawsuits due to policy chages.
eg: I invest 1B isk in a aven BPO... RL$ eqivilent of $1000, with a return over time of many thousands. Missiles get nerfed, the Raven becomes useless and no-one wants one. My investment just lost value Now I can sue in a RL court.
I probably wont win, but it's still a huge hassle for CCP to deal with, and they may end up losing on a technicality. (Could they afford to fly to Australia to defend themselves? I could win by default)
Not to mention the potential criminal charges everytime someone loses a ship to a bug.

---- The effect that this can have on the eve economy is disasterous, especially when you imagine a rich 1 day player could buy a few billion isk - instead of doing what they should be and working for it. ----
A new player with 1bil isk still cant do jack with it, since he has no skills to ride the ships/use the weps.
And money coming out of nowhere? I think ebay is great because it lets people who dont want to MONEY GRIND still play the game as they want to (if they dont mind paying rl$$).
Where do you think ebay money comes from? You say its from selling ores but ultimately it all comes from npc... npc's are the only ones who inject money in eve.
So i say, if it stops macroers from mmaking rl$$, cudos to the original post- its a grand idea.

No offense dude but this is a pretty lame idea. Now I have no problem with idiots paying real money for in-game stuff, but if CCP starts sanctioning it Eve has just become a game of who has the most out-of-game money to blow on this. It would also effectively take away the reason most people play the game, i.e. to make more money and be powerful etc. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

They could buy stuff from the large sellers on ebay. When they get the stuff they would know the trade account being used ingame. Follow isk or stuff back from the trade account to the production account (I pressume trades / transactions are logged). Delete all. Seems easy enough.
More fun would be to criminally flag these accounts permanently as known criminals. Then we could all have our fun. ----------------------------------- A gun and a packet of sandwiches.
