Right now most of us would have an account with a main char of mabe 5-20million skill points with an alt or two with mabe 1-2million skill points.
the biggest pain in the arse in this game is to train up a new charcter from scratch, but at the same time it would be very useful to have an alt with 5-10million skill points without having to sacrifice 6months to train them.
imho would be handy if you could make a carbon copy of your main char for use as an alt. you would get to change the face but not the race. The carbon copy would suffer 20-50% exp hit upon creation which would result in him/her having all the skills of your main but many of the skills would be lower than the original (random reduction of each skill by 20-50%) Clone would also lose the bonus 5 atribute points that a character can assign during normal charcter creation.
Thus we get an alt of average ability which already has most of the basic skills which are a pain to train up. which can then be specialised into a new area. only downside is that the alt will train slower due to having 5 less atrbiute points than the main.
Also shouldn't hurt the game as main uber fighter chars will generate an average fighter. main uber miners will generate avg miners. so the player still needs to train up the alt into a specialty.
all it does is eliminate the need to start from scratch.
another option is to have exp caps in carbon copies so that uber vetrans cant create a 10million SP alt
Also this should be limited to 1-2 times per account only so that people cant create and endless supply of good alt charcters.

So basically, you'd like new characters to start off where we were about a year ago right?
That's ummmm, not cool. I've played for 2.5 yrs, along with many others, to get where I am and honestly, would feel pretty gimped if that wasn't rewarded in the way that it is.
Also, take into account that people just coming into the game need to understand the implied "value" of a shiny new battleship, as they will have to train for it just as we did in the beginning. Things are already simpler for new characters now -- they can join a corporation that already HAS the BPO for a battleship, a luxury those of us that started on release day did not have. Not only did we have to train for it, but we had to work our asses off to buy the BP, mine the minerals, and build it. As it is now, characters that join can simply "order one" from the corporation and it magically appears as far as alot of them see.

Edited by: Phasics on 06/12/2004 05:27:15 ummm to take advantage of this you'd need to have a main charcter with e.g. 20million skill points
A newb player with 500k skill points would only be able to make an alt of 250k SP. If anything this would help the vetrans not the newbs
so in fact Joviah this would actually reward you for having one of the oldest chars in-game with high SP.
P.S I'm not sure how new players could take advanatge of this ?

Imagine the field day people would have with the "Character transfer" !?!?!
Imagine e-bay:

I understand your thoughts on this but I must agree with the others when I say no.
There are too many chances for exploitation and abuse that it would never fly AND it would cause a major uproar amongst many long-timers such as myself.

Most other MMORPGs have a way to vary your play style.. weather its with alts that when you reach a certain level dont need to repeat the noob stages (DAoC for example iirc) or FFXI you can train diferent jobs so if you get bored you can switch.
I think varying gameplay would help ppl keep playing for longer. O.o |
