The most dangerous of criminals are what makes the Minmatar's most notorious elite fighting force. The Valklears. This is their story.
"Valklears" is a new EVE Chronicle written by CCP Ginger.

I love a Hjalti mind-screw more than just about anybody, but I'm glad for an infodump, too... especially one that reduces our PF reliance on Theodicy a bit.
Also, props to my brothers in the Valklear Guard who live up to their namesake.

Minor typo in the first sentence I think.
Also, written from the point of view of a general description bulletin, which is exactly what the story says shouldn't exist in the last paragraph. I mean, if it's secret, a general description of it, like this story, wouldn't exist in this form, right?
Maybe if it was written as a gossip chat between two Minmatar workers or criminals or something...
Anyway, good info, thanks for writing it.

What struck me as I read this chronicle is how much like slavery this could be seen to be. "Hey, you guys are criminals. Work for us in this insanely dangerous job, or spend many more years behind bars." Yes, it's a stretch, but especially since Hederian altered the laws so that only criminals could be made slaves in Imperial territory...
I like this a lot, actually. Plays very nicely to how in EVE there are no good guys and bad guys, just different shades of gray guys.

It'd seem inadvisable. On the other hand, they're obviously enforcing discipline with an absolute iron fist, so mixing of the sexes might just be seen as another way to weed out those who are unable to obey the rules. ----------------------------------------------

Spelling error "Solders - Soldiers" "Brining - Bringing"
Aside from those two it was a well written chronicle, not very descriptive but nice information to fill the void on anything but the modern minmatar torture techniques.
Infodump on NPC Minmatar forces for Dust 514 anyone?

One of the most famous Valklears raids was led by Major John Reisman, who led a 12 man squad behind enemy lines to take out a chGteau filled with high ranking Amarr officers. Unfortunately the entire plan went horribly horribly wrong and they had to resort to plan b which involved dropping grenades down into the chGteau's bomb shelter, killing all the Amarr officers. Only 4 Valklears survived.

What makes you sure that there aren't female Valklears? Women can be stubborn thieves, rapists, and murderers too.
You are thinking too much like a 20th century earthling. This is the future, thousands and thousands of years in the future, and the surviving people have had thousands of years of uncivilized non-earth evolution. They may not even be homo sapiens anymore, much less dogmatically chauvinistic.

When I said "I'm going to assume" it meant assuming, not being sure. And of course you are right, women can commit horrible crimes just as the men but still... Actually now that I think about it the women might form their own extra cruel special unit that makes even the other Valklears feel uneasy.

Nice subject matter and a pretty good read.
While we're amateur-editing, I have a suggestion...
Quote:
The military commanders would have none of it, and the Valklear program remained and continues to prosper to this day, although it has lost none of its infamous reputation.
The phrasing is awkward and usage of "although" seems inappropriate here. I'd word it more like:
"The military commanders would have none of it, and the Valklear program remained. It continues to prosper to this day, and has lost none of its infamous reputation."

I wonder how long its gonna be before new chronicles make it look like the Amarr were doing the right thing from the start.
I also wonder how many decades it's will take for the wormhole-related stuff to get any sort of meaningful storyline advancement.

Just FYI, this isn't an IC board it's OOC... and that infodump is 100% canon. All the factions have their dirty laundry. If you chose a faction thinking EVE was good vs. evil, well, I've got bad news for you--everyone is evil in this setting, they just have different flavours.

I can tell you that this option is still being use. it depends all by the judge or the plea of defence attorney. you may not start in a good job assigment but if you continue in making a career out of it you can accpomlish anything in the military.

Valklears probably have more creativity though and would be less predictable. ------

Actually, its not a stretch at all. This technique is used all over the USA today. From smaller offenses, like a DUI, but you can receive a lesser sentence if you subject yourself to the religious zealots at the 10-step programs Or harder offenses, that will land you in prison... depending on the crime, you may be given an option in the military. Well over 10% of the US military's recruits require waivers for their criminal records.
In fact, our culture encourages the notion that if you're getting a rocky start in life, you should just join the military. Troubled teen? Military! Low school grades? Military! Drugs? Military! No job? Military!

I love this concept .... im looking forward to seeing what they give the Caldari and Gallente. As for the comment on Caldari units, the State has a unified training program where every able bodied man, woman, and dear say child can use a weapon(military grade). i would figure there Elite would be something close to a SAS or US Special Forces(yes I know there 2 very different units)

Actually, Eve may have already given the Gallente and Caldari elite military units. For the Caldari, read the chronicle "A Life in 3 Acts" since it talks about a genetically engineered soldier. For the Gallente, their elite force is probably the Black Eagles.
