1. How long have you been playing? --Only a few months, which is why I think my opinion (super-n00b) might be worth hearing.
2. Have you ever been in low sec? --Twice, once in an attempt to reach an Agent in my Vexar. I was tackled immediately upon jumping, and between scramblers, cap suckers and target jamming, I basically got to sit there while the dweeb flattened my ship. Second time, I was in a "naked" tristan, just trying to run to a spot to meet a buddy. Again, jumped and blown to bits by some twerp in a MUCH bigger ship. This is what the pirates enjoy, wasting much smaller ships, not fitted for PvP? Wow, at least I know where the fat kid who stole lunch money ended up.
3. Do you run missions or complexes in low sec? --Not any more. Simply put, as almost everyone has said, mission ships are easy bait for pirates camping gates. I somehow doubt these pirates have any real PvP skills, else they might try their hand at a PvP fitted ship, no?
4. If so, what is the appeal for you? --There is none...see above.
5. If not, why not?
6. Are rewards in low sec in line with the risk? --Not even remotely close. Comparatively, one might think of a guy offering you $50, to walk across the street, using traffic signals. OR, you can get $60, and all you have to do is stand in the middle of the highway at night wearing a black jumpsuit.
7. Is the risk in low sec over-stated? --No, the dweeb population, while perhaps not high, is more than adequate at entry points to make it a worthless trip, if missioning.
8. Would education from savvy players about how to mitigate risk in low sec encourage folks who didn't just want to AFK L4's to operate there? --Again, the pompous attitude, thinking that anyone doing missions is AFK-ing them. Simply because we don't leap blindly into your trap in our unprepared ships, so you can stroke your e-peen at yet another kill, does not mean we're "gimping" the mission side of the game.
9. What is the number one change to low sec that would cause you to considering doing missions and complexes there? (Be realistic! "Kick the pirates out!" is humorous but not realistic. Smile) --The mercenary ideas thrown out thus far have a lot of merit. If there were alliances who would contract out escorts for missions and stuff, or travel, it would make low-sec a LOT more appealing to people like me. Be it an NPC corp you could hire, or a player corp (my preference) then you have a couple ships, PREPARED for a PvP encounter. Currently, trying to mission in low sec seems a lot like trying to cross the ocean in a paper raft. You MIGHT be able to do it, but if one thing goes wrong, you're apt to lose the ship.
10. Do you believe it is possible to make low sec changes that would allow both pirates and carebears to co-exist profitably without crippling either's play style to extinction? Why or why not? --No, honestly. If there comes an option for "carebears" to enter low sec without being a sitting duck.easy kill, the pirates will no doubt fail on an epic level and cry about it. The biggest issue with low sec pirates are the ones who camp gates and destroy ships that are WAY undergeared/underpowered as they jump in. As soon as there is a true challenge, they flee or whine about it. The problem pirates seem to be the ones who have a need to AFK kill mission ships. Yes, that was irony slapping a face, I think.
