I dont know if this is true but apparently it was possible to do so, then CCP nerfed it.
Why? Hell, I don't know. Apparently CCP has control issues and wants EVERYONE to experience the game...the same way. For better or worse.
Thinking about it more I can partly understand why they would limit it - providing a consistent... maybe a number of options not to far away from how the colors are selected?

Edited by: Pwnzorator on 21/05/2010 13:58:35 I think it would help if people stop attributing the problem to using high-resolution screens. Overall screen resolution is irrelevant, what matters is a combination of dot pitch and view distance.
My eyesight isn't great, but the standard font size is fine on my 1920*1080 monitor (23", 0.265mm dot pitch) viewed from about 3-4 feet. When I bought it, this was the smallest (and thus lowest dotpitch) 1920*1080 monitor Iácould find.
I suspect most of the people complaining are using laptops with very small dot pitch. Most desktop monitors won't have this problem (most low dot pitch ones are designed for CAD/DTPáuse, and thus are extremely expensive)
I'm not saying this isn't a problem for some people, but please stop trying to say it affects everyone who uses a high resolution. This simply isn't as widespread a problem as most of the people in this thread think.
I don't like the font because there's no visible difference between I, l and 1, or O and 0.

Isn't it comforting to know that the font, an issue from day one of the game's launch has persisted these 7 years while the <1% of the Eve population that have AlienFX keyboards are getting their AlienFX feature in Tyrannis when there's maybe been 1 post asking about it. I mean, that comforts me to no end that the developers are working very hard to make this game the finest product it can possibly be.

We have had the option to change the font, to what anyone wanted . It was taken away, Never to return.
The devs haven't had too much luck in the font personel area, So holding ones breath, may not be a good idea.

All I know is that on my 24" 1920x1200 monitor at maybe 2-3 feet away, the font is much harder to read than it should be. It is just about the only game I've played where I find myself subconsciously squinting and leaning forward while playing. If you just do combat and spend little time staring at the in-game "spreadsheets" and other windows, it's probably not that big of a deal, though, since the chat windows have scalable fonts and most of the combat interface is visual rather than textual.

UI Fonts. CCP pleased everyone by announcing they hired a ôFont Guyö which means that improvements on that front are to be expected
I certainly would appreciate any font/UI improvements.
SoonÖ ;)

Question is, will this happen before or after Duke Nu... Incarna?

My guess is that this is in the production pipe somewhere. They will probably lump it in with a full UI revamp, unfortunately. So while we wait (2-3 years) for a new UI we have to suffer though the font issues.

From my Eve-Tribune interview for CSM4
Quote: ZAD: That's a hard one to argue against! People have been screaming for that (font fixes)for years and it's never happened. Ashina Sito: So true. At the very least I wish to be voted to CSM so I can go to Iceland, find the person who designed/approved the font and let the air out of their car tires every day I am at CCP headquarters.
None the less, as long as you keep playing and paying the font goes on the back burner. When the bean counters see people leaving because of the font they will scream to have it moved up in the production pipe. Which probably is the same reason that keyboard got development time in Tyranis. Ether it was about the money or some dev had one and spent their own time working on that project and said, "Hay, look what I got!". You won't get that with the font, while simple it is too deeply rooted in the UI for one person to come in and fiddle with it.
The election is over but, I hope you voted for me if you have font issues. It is my biggest personal gripe with the game atm. My CSM Election Announcement

Woot! At least there is some hope. Any chance we can know if it's within-a-few-months SoonÖ or is it within-a-few-years SoonÖ? Do you guys want to hire me as a work from home contract developer to fix the font size? I know C++/Python and am willing to fix it for zero pay and just a free year subscription. ;)

I find them slightly too large - I always need to switch windows or scroll to see any reasonable amount of data. Not everybody has severe vision problems, you know? (And I do even wear glasses.)
I am therefore all for being able to change the font size to suit anyone's needs. (without making the font as ass-ugly as the chat window font at minimum size!)
Originally by: Ambo I've never understood people's problem with the font tbh. I play at 1920x1080 and do not have 20/20 vision but I have no problems reading the font at all.
That's not to say it shouldn't be fixed... Just saying I don't get it.
How big are your monitors? And Abdiel, what is your resolution? I can't imagine thinking they're too large, or needing to fit any more info on the screen... how many windows do you need open at one time? I play at 1680x1050 on a 21" monitor and I can't read it without leaning forward and squinting. I do wear glasses but with my glasses on my vision's not really that bad; I can easily read every other game and application I own, though I do use the medium system font in Windows instead of the small. It is literally painful for me to play for more than a little while. It gives me a severe headache and eye strain. Could be astigmatism - TrueType fonts and most fonts designed after the 80's are drawn to make the vertical and horizontal lines stand out more against the background. Most games and apps in the last few decades you a scalable true-type or similar font and windows uses ClearType to help the fonts have more contrast. Small fixed pixel-wide dark gray on black font without any contrast lines or scaling is pretty much a nightmare for anyone with even slight astigmatism.

Wow, big thanks. This thread just saved me from the money I was planning to spend this weekend on the monitor upgrade. If it makes the font worse, forget it. I can barely read it now.
