Why the hedge?
Also note that though it is transparently stated, it also contradictory stated: "If the event fails you may not get your full isk donation/ investment back" "If this fails to go anyway all isk donations of over 1million will be returned in full."
Yup you're completely correct. I had to read it a couple of time to see what were referring to, and I will fix that.
As this may take a while there could possibly be hundreds of small donations and in the event of failure they'd not be factored into any refunds of any kind. I find this unlikely to happen as the final event can be scaled to match what fundage is available.
Refunds due to the final event failing would mean that any assets or prizes bought would need to be liquidated back into isk, and then redistributed back to people who donated, which would probably be at a lower amount than purchased. Probably as in highly likely when other possible costs are factored.
Failure = no interest in the projects final event.

Still a bit vague don't you think? If only one person is interested, the project's final event is a success?
Anyway, if you need any more advice on fund acquisition I'll have to charge a consultancy fee. Contact me ingame if you're interested.

These MD elites never cease to amaze me with their serious eve business.
Isk in your wallet means nothing. To anyone. Anywhere.
This is not a major corporation shareholders transparency meeting.
You have the OP. Anyone can read it, or not read it. Based on that, you can send isk, or not send isk.
It might be going right where it is stated it's going, or it might be a scam. You decide what you do with your pixel isk.
But goddamn, it never stops to amuse me how these people think isk in a spaceships game is an important element in their life, so important you have to go through a goddamn real world business circus to move it. Amazing.
Utterly, amazing.
Playing monopoly with you guys must be fun.

Your enthusiasm and the idea of these events is pretty refreshing in game; not so attractive to people in MD who expect a return on investment.
It's your choice how you hold events, but in all honesty, it's a shame to see that you don't seem to be breaking even on them. There are plenty of successful lotteries held where a nominal fee is paid to enter; 10mil is not exactly crippling for most players, so what is your rationale in waiving that? If you've burned through your personal ISK to sustain these events so far, it looks like a money pit, underlying that is the risk of burnout, regardless of how genuine your intentions are. If people do choose to contribute, knowing there is no return, I'd imagine they would want their ISK to be managed carefully, with a view to supporting the "events" long term.
300b is a ridiculous amount of isk to give away. Might be an attention grabber, and possibly a way to generate more coverage, but why not 100b, or 50b, or 20b as a weekly event?
Why are you approaching individual investors as opposed to in game businesses who may be prepared to sponsor in return for exposure?
Not sure if you recall the suggestion I made to you a while back about getting someone in to audit your events to ensure you aren't bleeding ISK. You said you were also spending a lot on advertising, but Chribba's Titan/Mothership lotteries sell out within a few days based on a forum thread and an ingame mailing list; I'm pretty sure I suggested a mailing list a while back but never got a response, was on the sales thread so maybe got missed or I didn't spot a response.
It might be worthwhile to ask this particular section of the community how to make these events viable long term and take on board criticisms/suggestions, before you ask for ISK (you could change this to a discussion thread and backtrack a bit). You're not getting that many constructive responses because you've already thrown out a number; it's certainly attention grabbing, but suggests you are here to ask for isk rather than have a discussion, so you're likely to just get caught up defending your proposal as opposed to discussing how to improve it. You don't need to justify or rationalise why you want to create community events; you do need to demonstrate that you are able to manage public funds securely and effectively. Even if all the funds are to be used for events/advertising, people have a right to know how their isk will be spent, and they may have some decent ideas you can use.
Secure the event funds in such a way that the majority are satisfied; if you try to use the "reputation" card here you will get stomped on, mostly because of Curzon. I'm pretty sure you know you will need 3rd party security, the onus is on you to arrange that (I notice you are asking people to discuss whilst accepting funds which is a bit hmm). Some people here may genuinely be able to offer advice and assistance, but you need to be open to discussion rather than defending your plan. Look up Bad Bobby's Titans4u pre launch discussion thread for some ideas of MD concerns etc; they may not reflect the community as a whole, but they do reflect the sentiments of the portion who are interested in investment/other markets in game.
Best of luck

Perhaps if you left your momma's basement you'd increase your amazement barrier. (Sex, boy you'll enjoy that someday!) People seem to overlook the obvious here - This has nothing to do with MD "type" people or some such. Nothing to do with serious or not serious. (Mind you, if I take the game seriously is not a subject open to your approval or ridicule so sod off.) The point of the matter is this thread simply does not belong here. When I open the sports section of the newspaper, I want to read sports. When I open the comics, I want to see comic strips. When I open the obituaries, I'd like to see a few of you in it. Get the point or should I use crayon?

A fine example of obituary material if I ever saw it. See I think kindness, medical advances, and just plain civilization has bypassed Darwinism. I'd also, quite honestly, love to see the re-enacting of dueling laws as well. But being willing to take personal responsibility for one's actions is inconceivable to someone still sucking on momma's teat so I'll spare you the lecture.

Well, the stickies are always a good place to start at.
Yup I've read in there and the post had been changed to suit within a couple of hours of posting, I havent read all the hundreds of posts however. I'm not sure if people have missed the start of the post but it does mention that I was interested in some discussion on how they think this kind of money could be made with investment, but I understand that theres relatively small amounts of people who will do anything for free for the community. Why have I put the donations part up already?? Because I've already started it and regardless of what you all think its going to happen already - I've already made more isk than this before and I can do it again, I just don't have as much time in game as I used to.

Without ruining the event its hard to explain, so this falls under trusting me to know what I'm doing. If you have suggestions you'd like to post for free go ahead, but I'm pretty tight on my isk spending so consulting is out of the question.

Hey Phoebe long time!
Originally by: Phoebe Halliwel I'd imagine they would want their ISK to be managed carefully, with a view to supporting the "events" long term.
This is isk for one project. My other events will continue as they do but in a different format with what you've just stated as being the main reason for the change.
Originally by: Phoebe Halliwel 300b is a ridiculous amount of isk to give away. Might be an attention grabber, and possibly a way to generate more coverage, but why not 100b, or 50b, or 20b as a weekly event?
This event could last for over 6months depending on the amount of entrants and interest, although the first part of the event have a fixed time and will last for less than a day.
Originally by: Phoebe Halliwel Why are you approaching individual investors as opposed to in game businesses who may be prepared to sponsor in return for exposure?
Although this is the only place I've posted on the EVE-O forums, that doesn't mean I'm just targeting this forum.
Originally by: Phoebe Halliwel Not sure if you recall the suggestion I made to you a while back about getting someone in to audit your events to ensure you aren't bleeding ISK. Yup, I've had a mailing list for some time now (I had one when you asked but it wasn't using it for events yet). Chribba is Chribba, only one other person comes close to selling as fast and thats Darknesss with his Mothership lottos - I'm not interested in events with those ships period. My other events can sustain themselves as they are, but they're not designed to make large amounts of isk - and neither is this project.
Originally by: Phoebe Halliwel It might be worthwhile to ask this particular section of the community how to make these events viable long term and take on board criticisms/suggestions, before you ask for ISK (you could change this to a discussion thread and backtrack a bit)... snip (running out of room to post) snip ...
This is explained in the post above and on the front page. I don't want discussion on the event, I would like some suggestions as to how I could go about investing some of the isk in the fund while its being added to...
Originally by: Phoebe Halliwel Secure the event funds in such a way that the majority are satisfied; if you try to use the "reputation" card here you will get stomped on, mostly because of Curzon. Ah.. I don't get this reputation crap. My reputation is built on trust and making creative events: its extremely imporant to this thread. And again, the point of this post is to get discussion aswell as exposure...
The reason for discussions on 3rd parties involvment is more to do with tracking the isk than actually using them. If I send isk to say Grendell every month, and my website tracks my characters wallet, how is this amount going to be defined, and how is this going to be shown on my website and how would it be programmed. The other problem of course is how to go about it without it being a hassle for the 3rd party - Regarding starting the fund already; most of the isk will be from me, so why can't I start the fund already??
If you don't trust me, don't take part. simple as that!
Nice to hear from you again! -T'amber

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.TL:DR - Reputation, perhaps. Trust, not so much as your ego seems to think. Angry, indifferent, happy - Don't care how you leave, please just go.
The failure here is that you are doing this wrong. Yes, you are getting exposure alright. It is not good exposure though. More like you dropping your pants and mooning everyone - then wondering why people are annoyed with you. I suspect that there will be a number of "pot/kettle" remarks but I'm going to close by suggesting you think about your hubris. You think that just because you deem it so, you are important enough for us (here in this section) to overlook your panhandling. Sorry, panhandling is not (and never will be) acceptable in this forum. Don't care why, who, or what. Your rep, tbh, is rating somewhere around your ankles and no matter how much crap you spit out (or the trolls spit out) you will not get it to float much higher. And you've only yourself to blame as you've proven you can't take a clue, hint, or GTFO.
