Hey MD, I've noticed recently a lot of downward pressure on stront in Jita. Why is this? Control towers are soon going to switch to player-manufactured, and Strontium is for protecting the investment of a tower. Shouldn't the value of stront be rising with the value of the investment it protects, or is this more likely to be a deliberate manipulation in order to obtain large quantities of cheap stront before its value rises? Personally, I do not think stront would drop in value by natural market causes before the investment it serves to insure becomes more scarce. I don't think anyone believes control tower prices will not be going up, at least initially.

Just keep in mind Drachiel that stront is not used a lot most towers never use it and it is a one time fill they keep the other fuel's up so not sure on the pricing of poss fuel if that has really moved but the more people that have pos it might climb a little for a short while but should fall back down again with all the macro miners flooding the marked with it.

All aboard for punctuation station.
Take a look at pos fuels and they are used on an hourly basis for every active tower in the game. Stront is only consumed by towers that have been reinforced, and then only for the time taken for the stront to run out. Even when a tower is reinforced it still consumes regular fuel.

Mhm. Point taken on the one time fill. However, if we assume demand for control towers to be constant, then roughly the same amount of control towers will be used. If control towers are more expensive after Tyrannis hits, which they likely will be, there will undoubtedly be less un-stronted towers in space, and I have seen (and violenced) some un-stronted towers before. If a large tower is 500m, (not a terribly unreasonable price for what a large is capable of.) then I doubt anyone will be willing to skip out on the expense of Stront.

If the price of towers rises, people will buy less of them, therefore LESS stront will be required.

Well, true. Still, given the uses of towers and the way people look at them now, the number bought shouldn't change too much due to moderate changes. If towers all jumped 200m, then I think we'd see less of them in the universe, and people would probably pull some down to sell them, which could readjust things. Strontium is also still at a long-time low. I haven't seen it under 650 in quite some time.

Have we any major wars atm ?
Not really, when you roll out the big guns as in Dreadnaughts, they use a huge amount of Stront.
5 cycles of Stront in your fuel bay/cargo hold, @ 350 units per cycle x 80ish Dreads, you get the idea i'm sure......

Erm, I suppose it depends upon one's definition of "major" and "atm", but may I direct your attention to H-W9TY (and other NC v. SC shenanigans...)

Why Ice Products/Block prices are falling
Point 1: SC vs NC war is slowing (relatively speaking) and thus less fuel is being used by capital ships (perhaps even a surplus is at hand for both sides and they are trying to sell off extra to pay for losses, who knows) Also, generally speaking, most of the Big Alliance Blocks do not have big operations during patch time thus reducing demand even more.
Point 2: With the new patch coming out and changes to the NPC POS fuel seeding down the pike. Most people are holding off on all NEW POS related activities and maintaining what thay have; Making demand flat for Ice products in the meantime. (That assuming that no one POPs any towers until market corrects, fat chance of that ROFL )
(Addition) Point 3: Ice macros are on the rise thus saturating the market with tons of unwanted ice products/blocks. This drives down the price even more as people constantly undercut each other in a bid to move their products. (I mean seriously have you seen the ice belts recently? Macros, Macros, Macros, as far as the eye can see!)

ATM is about inserting a certain object in the former, take it out, and then inserting it into the latter. Some people think it's acceptable, for others it's a big no no.

NC has decided to stop stronting their control towers and no longer use dreads in siege, only non-stront eating supercaps, so-- demand for stront is down.
