Not really noticed much with the sound other than the juke box tends to stop after 1 or 2 tracks.
Only using the onboard sound chip since some workman stuck something through a cable (from somewhere outside) an sent a surge that took out my sound card and damaged the graphics card. Graphics card died a few days later after being poorly. And yes I do have a surge protector, but the surge was too great.
As for the workman, that's a guess as there was a lot of ground work going on nearby at the time.
Anyway replaced the graphics but decided to use the onboard sound which is quite adequate.

I recommend to EVERYONE who has sound issues, go through the steps of actually creating a bug report / petition about it. I've done so, and been taken through about 10 steps by a GM which included updating all drivers, etc. the result was - no improvement. Hopefully if enough people do this, they will realize that yes, really, sound is broken and needs to be fixed.
If ANY of the devs play with sound ON, and have normal hearing capabilities, they would be pretty ****ing dense to not realize that the sound needs fixing. Creating bug reports doesn't help at all if sound development has zero priority.
Originally by: Kulmid Been playing 4 and half years with sound off. There was a blue post in a thread a long time ago saying their sound guys would be sad to hear so many of us play with sound off, but I honestly just don't find the music/effect sounds to be appealing. And that was the last I saw a blue post in a "sound is broken" thread.
CCP sound guys, yeah that's a great joke

Eve has sound? I'm sure even the Dev's at this point laugh at that. Pretty ****e to have a game evolve as much as Eve has without anything being done about that. Imagine trying to sell the game to a friend when the topic of audio comes up. "Um yeah, eve doesn't do that."
I know. Pretty much all the the people I have introduced to this game have commented on the crappy sound.

I play with sound on, the UI, and non-combat (warping, gates) sounds are fine for me. The turret sounds hardly ever work though and the jukebox is really quite broken past the first song.

Originally by: Femina Somnium The sound isn't broken for everyone, but it is full of little bugs even at best of times. So not broken for me, but it isn't good either.
Well, I don't know where you're from, but where I'm from that's broken.
My sound was working fine when I first started playing, but I tirned it off because it was annoying me. Then one day I decided to turn it back on to see I it would make the game as immersive as when I first started playing.
At first, it didn't have any sound, and when I opened up the settings to turn it off and on again, the client crashed. I restarted the client, and the sound appeared to be working. But there where no turret sounds. I didn't notice until all of a sudden the client decided that for no apparent reason, it should make some angel's artillery sound off with maximum loudness.
I almost had a heart attack, and thought it was a flash advert from my alt-tabbed browser. Then I realized, maybe the sound is borked? So I decided to turn turret sound down, and the client crahsed again. Then the jukebox stopped working. Needless to say, I have given up on sound in eve. It breaks the immersion rather than enhancing it.
Oh, and I think CCP intend to fix it Soon(TM)

Whether sound is working depends who you ask.
According to almost the entire playerbase sound is completely farked and has been for well over a year.
Judging by CCP's non-response to vocally expressed concerns of the playerbase we can only assume that in their opinion it is 'working as intended'.

I have been here since beta and to be honest the sound has always been somewhat broken, I have played across three or four different computers in this time and the same thing has been happening.
Mostly I find that its just guns that dont work properly in terms of sound, but other times it can be warping, docking and music..
I still play with the sound on quite simply for warp drive active and such..
Hardly a big problem but after what 7 years? I think it should start to change at some point, but the game still works and is a goon un Proving natural selection and Charles Darwin wrong since 1981.

Can't they just roll back the sound engine pre apocrypha?

I'm not really experienceing major problems, it's just that sometimes when I shoot or fire missiles it does make sound and the next time it doesn't. Which is kinda inconsistent.
And oh - unless there already is one that i failed to find I need a 'put music OFF' button, not just a "pause" or "volume to 0" button. Sound is ok but Ive heard that playlist by now.

Other than the broken jukebox (which appears to be fixed in Tyrannis) and the "mute sounds when someone talks" options, I have no sound issues. Except for where you can only hear really close things, but that's a matter of taste. -
