You do realise this isn't all there's going to be to EVE Gate, right? It's got a dedicated development slot, whose directive is to eventually make EVE Gate a means of playing EVE from anything that has a web browser so long as you don't need to actually move through space.
For a lot of players, many of them completely outside PvP, that practically removes the need to ever log into the client. Station traders, for instance. Though I'm sure most will prefer to play through the client when they can.
I'm betting even the people wailing about the privacy settings will eventually be using EVE Gate on and off. Maybe not the present, organisation and social features, but seriously, skill queue manipulation and market/contract control from a mobile phone? How will people NOT be using that?
One of the benefits people are also missing is there might be a small reduction in lag/server strain as these features go in, given again, you don't have to use the client in many cases, which maintains a constant line to the server. EVE Gate, on the other hand, just pokes the server once every time it needs a page refresh.
Right now this is a ruddy groundwork build, not the finished product.

I was incorrect. EVE Gate will have the same downtime as Tranquility.
Why I'm not surprised that the ONLY Feature in Eve Gate that might've actually made it useful (ie. access during downtimes) is not there.
To quote a certain pretty well known trio of TV hosts: "How hard can it be?!"

YOur probably right. But i thought CCP said they werent going to allow market stuff and skill changing on Eve gate? Or am i incorrect. I only read forums when games down or Mining. SO maybe i missed it. I also Mine most of the time. Lets me read forums alot thru i usually dont say anything on them. Do not like the usual fanboi assualt that follows anytime you dont agree with ccp.
Going to be funny watching majority of eve players find this out the hardway thru cause they dont bother with the forums.

Go here, and watch.. the third interview video, I think; CCP Priya. Certainly it's one of those three. They intend to allow market access by the looks of it.

Edited by: Ti''anla on 26/05/2010 12:59:12 Well, it's accessible by browser, so mobile devices can certainly get at and control it... but I dunno if there's any plans to make it an actual app. Certainly, there isn't one right now and none of the interviews or blogs mention one.
.. That said it's only a matter of time before some benevolent third party goes ahead and makes one.

Yeah because the forums are the center of the Internet and we MUST NOT EVER TYPE, at all circumstances, URLs manually.
I will be logging in once, to change my privacy settings, and never again.
Paranoid much?

I'm an intensely private person, and don't want anybody, even friends, being able to view my contact list. But that said, I imagine I'll use evegate a fair amount, probably more than I use the forums. I'll just be setting the privacy settings to paranoid is all :)

Again, I suspect all these 'I'm going to log in once and never again' people are going to be keeping very quiet when market, skill, contract, and inventory control are eventually added to EVE Gate...

Not really. I might use it should I have no way of logging in and need to mail someone, but other than that I have the client at my disposal; I don't need to do everything from a browser. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

And yet here you are, connected to the internet, broadcasting an IP address! Which could actually be traced all the way back to your real life place of residence. That seems much important than if someone knows that you have SirMolle in your contact list or not.

I think these are reserved for future development :)

I will try to get that fixed today. https://gate.eveonline.com/ is an alternate URL as well.
Still popping up the warning message.
Ohh, and wheres the link to EVE gate from the forums?
I don't want to be searching the eve web site for a link. It should be on the left on the nav panel.

Heh. I had completely forgotten that I installed the script that removes the outgoing link warningą ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

www.evegate.com works
But, now I will let you in on a cool feature that many browsers have, where you can put bookmarks right under the address bar. Viola, now you always have your link, and never have to worry about the forum warning.

No. EVE Gate should behave the same way forums do during downtime. Up, but maybe a little slow. The forums and stuff like account management and EVElopedia all use the same login tables. But I will double-check this.
I was incorrect. EVE Gate will have the same downtime as Tranquility.

Is evegate still considered to be a beta even though it is now connected to the main servers? It still says so in the logo...

Thus your friends can tell who your friends are, and possibly divine who your alts are too (assuming you have your alts on your contact list).
One thing I'm not clear on right now is whether "blues" will only be able to see other "blues" or your entire contact list.
This is actually quite an important point, those who see your contact list will NOT be able to tell what standings you have set towards those contacts. They won't know whether it's your alt on +10 or someone you set to -10 after he podded you some two years ago.
