Unless I'm missing something the game makes this a waste of time, as an escort can't guard a freighter from a suigank, by attacking the greifers, without concord nutting the guard, and by the time an escort could overwhelm the attackers the freighter is gone.
This is a hole in the game which I think can be plugged, I think in one of two ways.
1> Each lvl of freighter skill of the pilot gives a 20% chance of the griefer triggering aggro just by beginning to target the freighter. This would afford the freighter 5 pilot an automatic escort from concord, which makes sense as it's meant to be hisec.
2> A new leadership skill called Escort, which works in the same way except it's applied by the fleet booster, and works if any ship(non-combat?) in the fleet is targetted.
However it's done, the current situation makes no sense and needs changing to redress the balance.

I think you're forgetting it takes about 20+ battleships to gank a freighter.

Did someone get sui ganked in a freighter recently ?
I think the above poster is right. If there are that many ships sitting at a gate waiting for you then don't go there. Replace "Escort" with "Scout"

Would taking along a few freinds in remote repping bs be able to help keep the freighter alive? you could fill up a bs as much as possible with rr as all it would need to do is pulse all of the rr once to avert the gank depending on amount of bs attacking

One thing you missed: Your "guard" could instead target you to help sustain your shields and/or armor through remote repair. Furthermore, they will draw fire if any pirate is dumb enough to switch targets.
I was going to suggest a slingshot, but I'm not 100% certain if those are still recommended.

Also if you use an alt or friend in a little frigate to web you at each gate you can warp in around 10seconds or under as you only need to get to 25% speed rather than 75% and then web, you warp instantly even if not aligned

A few things:
1. Use a scout 1 or 2 systems ahead. If there's a large concentration of BS gathering, don't proceed. 2. Suicide gankers are immediately red flagged as criminals. If you have a sensor boosted escort team, you could jam/damp/disrupt out some of the BS between the first and second volleys. You might even kill a couple, but I wouldn't rely on trying to kill them. A couple of falcons jamming multiple targets each might just save you. 3. Don't carry enough to make it worthwhile for them to gank you. Use courier contracts and containers (double wrapping) to conceal your expensive items. 4. Don't autopilot. 5. Use a Hyena or Rapier to get your freighter into warp quickly. Sensor boost for quick locking, web the freighter and get if moving. Don't hang around waiting to be scanned or scrammed. It won't stop all ganks, but it will make it that little bit harder.
Generally prevention is better than cure, but there are a couple of active measures that can improve your chances if you get attacked. ______________________ Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University |

287k ehp vs 200k in an obelisk with the added advantage of the corp hanger which does not get scanned
You could also bring a fleet booster in system each time and have the booster web you at each gate for a double effect of boosting and webbing.

While most of the suggestions are good, they are all absolutely impractical for freighter pilots who travel a lot. They're also unnecessary. If you want to stay safe in a freighter, just keep the value of your cargo around 1 billion ISK. Its that simple.
To be clear, if you're going to do one high-value 'Kessel Run' through hisec, then these suggestions would be the tools I would use to protect the run. But on a day to day basis, they are impractical. |

As some is bound to say (tl;dr) CONCORD is not there to protect you, and is not there to ensure that your toon makes iskies. Can't hack flying a freighter in hi sec? Use a Crane.

Good info. I would just like to add that moving stuff between 0300 and 0600 eve time ON WEEKDAYS has always been very effective for me.
If it's THAT valuable lose a couple hours sleep v losing some Billions.
DON'T use everybodys favorite gate into Jita.

it's a hassle to use an scout for highsec. Waste of resources, time and isk...
just split your cargo so you never move more than 800m isk for example. The most dangerous point is Jita 4-4 undocking so also get a 2000km insta-dock-out-safe-spot (use a shuttle for that)

I'm going to assume you quoted the wrong post. Bolded the relevant part. |

This...biggest killer of freighters. Ship so slow it goes backwards in time...you get dumped off at crap range to gate, gives a ganker ample time to fire away.
You spent hours copying, inventing, getting components, and making your 900K m3 of t2 item goodness. take the time to jump gate to gate. If that pressed for time...have an alt or friend (in the same corp as you) web you (even on a 7 jumper this saves mad time imo). Kill 2 birds with one stone, have the webber jump first to scout. They see 20 BS's chilling on a gate (not privateer alliance, they generally want wt's)....its a sign. Sign says park it or change your route.
Frieghter pilots best defence is common sense. Its a free skill you should have already lol. Use eve maps, set for recent ship/pod losses. If an empire system is competing with null sec systems with known wars going on for kills in past hour or day...do not jump. unscout Jita is kind of okay. most of those kills are 4-4 Privateer station campers. Keyword most...

Step 1: Don't use autopilot Step 2: Suggest to your scout that maybe he should let you know about the 20 man gang waiting for you after the next gate Step 3: ???? Step 4: Profit
Actually for this one, step 3 is optional.
