Running the client in background (either windowed or fullscreen) slows down the whole system. This effect is greatly diminished when having the stellar map (flattened) up.
Nothing scientific, but I suspect a problem with Ciderwrap 3D config/routines.
On another note, running fullscreen draws more CPU / heat than running windowed (same resolution/settings).

The sound, yes EVE has sound, after I've jumped through a stargate is borked up.
The moment I have jumped through I get a short *very* loud noise sound clip which I can only describe as like a heavy traffic highway.

PROBING
Welcome Tyrannis,
Cheetah, 2 scan rigs Sisiter expended probe launcher Sister Core scanner probe
After a scan, results shows up in window as intended, filters working fine, but on screen, no red dot, no sphere no circle.
Jumping other system same thing, reloging not fixing the problem. Scanning using onboard scanner and 0 probes, same bug.
Everyone have this problem ? NO Is it only a MAC issue, no idea.
Using OS 10.5.8, everything else is fine so far (except for the bugs everyone have PC/MAC).

I have the same sound issue as "Serpents smile" reports. The moment I have jumped through a gate I get a short *very* loud noise sound Burst of static, like a heavy traffic highway. Edited by: Meita Way on 27/05/2010 16:29:46 I run EVE on a 2008 macbook pro, and I just want to say thanks! Tyrannis loads up about 3x faster, logs in 10x faster, and a lot of pauses while flying around/undocking are gone. Great bit of work. (And that's just with a plain auto upgrade, I've not cleared the cache or changed anything else at all).

Window controls in windowed mode are still broken in Tyrannis. I opened bug #89924 when it first happened with Dominion 1.0. Any update on when this might be fixed?
I've had one crash to desktop (unreproducible) and one error on logoff (as previously described in this thread or others).
Overall though, much improved over Dominion. The 3 most annoying usability bugs (sticky cursor on window edge, sticky control key, and disappearing control arrows on scan probes) all appear to be fixed and it does perform better than before. Though the slowdown issue with other applications while eve is in the background still happens, I agree with others that it might be better than before.
Oh and Tyrannis still runs my MBP very very hot even on minimal gfx settings.
Thanks for the pretty solid release. I hope we'll see more Mac-specific fixes in the Tyrannis point releases.

I'm not sure if this is something I just noticed, but happened before or something new, but I am seen a lot more aliasing all over the place. Stations, gates, my ships, even the whatever-that-is on the login screen has aliasing along many edges. Again, this is something I just noticed, and isn't a huge deal, but it could be part of the graphics upgrade of ships.
This is after the first patch for the expansion. My setup is: OS 10.6.3 Macbook Pro 3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz 2 Gig RAM GeForce 8600M GT

I have encountered three issues: 1: Mac completely froze upon exiting the client, this didn't happen the second time 2: Client crashed in the middle of the game, could log in right after that 3: CTRL key still stuck on several occasions
Overall the performance seems to be better, especially starting up and logging in (As said before).
Graphics seem to be better and the client feels much more snappy.
Heat still is a big issue and doesn't seem to be improved. Single client gives me low 80's (c), dual client high 80's, as it was before Tyrannis, with fans running up to 6200rpm which is the maximum.

I have had two CTD when jumping which is not as frequent as when Dominion was first released. The error reporter compiles and sends a report but isn't able to connect to Transgaming.
And an old bug: The jukebox doesn't finish playing the songs. It just stops halfway and starts playing the next one. A minor issue but I miss the soothing sounds of Miner Stories and I saw your ship. ;)

Just to make sure it gets into the right thread, the graphics issue with all the polygons flashing (see other thread: Graphics Issue) still seems to be happening for me with the released version of Tyrannis. A pity as it seemed to go away for at least some of the SiSi test builds.

Many many more crashes since Tyrranis, most of the mid game, for no reason either, I'd be in station or in space and without doing anything Eve would just crash. Exiting the client causes a buffer overflow all of the time.
The crash reporter only came up once in all of the crashes I had...and it froze itself.

After logging in, the mouse is completely unusable. Left and right clicking has severely delayed (minutes) or no effect at all. I am unable to open any of the left hand icons or onscreen warp commands. Problem is also at the log in screen. Took nearly 4 minutes of fiddling to select main char and enter.

The random loud static burst is a serious problem. It wrecks the the game experience. I am also experiencing hard crashes where I have to reboot entirely. That does not happen on ay other program and did not happen before Tyrannis. If I could run in a window, it would be much less of a problem. Time the window problem was fixed.

OK, tried re-installing client, disabled mZoom and some other things to no effect. Was about to create another account on the mac and install a second copy of client, decided to check if I had any outstanding OSX updates first. I did, installed the security updates and rebooted. Problem resolved. I suspect it had more to do with the reboot than the security patch. Sometimes even a mac needs a reboot? |

1. Random crashes to desktop. At least twice so far, and I'm a sporadic player. 2. I've had the game freeze on logout several times, forcing a hard reboot of my iMac. 3. Still have those cursor problems sometimes -- maybe. Now that I think about it, the last time it happened was while I was downloading the expansion, prior to its installation.

OK after a couple of days playing I can say that none of the (Mac related) bugs that would've been fixed according to the patch notes are indeed fixed.
- CTRL key still sticks, but a lot more often. Also, the ALT key does the same now! - Random crashes to desktop without any error message popping up. - Crashes when logging off or quitting the application altogether, with an error message. Crash reporter does not work - Client freezes up and continues working 20~30 seconds later - Windows still roam all over the place when logging in or after a session change (jumping, docking, whatever) - Heat is an extreme issue. I have toned both clients down in graphic settings but it doesn't change a thing. Whether I run them medium/high or completely low, temperatures while running 2 clients still hit high 80's, sometimes even over 90. While running single client this is low 80's so not much of a difference. - Crash reporter, does it even work now? I have stopped reporting since the URL it pointed to wasn't there.
I can't say if the warp tunnel effect still glitches since I don't want to put everything high, afraid I might burn my legs. Didn't try probing as well, but I've heard enough people who still have disappearing boxes.
I'm not one to rant or whine, but this is really ridiculous. Why do you say you have fixed something while you clearly have not? Was there anything tested at all?
There is quite a lot of people reporting stuff here, why is there no response whatsoever from CCP? Should I create a bug report for everything I run in to, while a lot of people experience the same thing? You make an issues thread but you don't reply to anything reported in there. In the regular thread the only constructive replies I have seen is 'please file a bug report and we'll look into it', which I think is bull... Why bother making a thread then?
Sorry for this, like I said I'm really not someone to whine or rant, but I am really disappointed by all of this. EVE still is an awesome game but it is getting harder and harder to play because of these annoying bugs.

The client crashes on startup, and the crash reporter fails to send information to Transgaming. In other words, a complete fail.
Could someone from CCP comment if the Steam version of the game is based on the Cider crap, or uses Steam's compatibility libraries? In my experience Cider-based game ports are always problematic, while the new Steam-based games are all performing well. Hence if the Steam Tyrannis is actually Steam-based, I'd be willing to shell out the 20 euros to get that, as I'm sure that version of the game would actually run.

The client consistently locks up for me whenever I try to exit/logout (have to hard reboot/power off and back on).
Game play itself has not improved and now I am seeing polygon shapes briefly when I go into a mission room.
Several random and sporadic crashes. One second I am approaching a gate (or mining a roid or starting a mission or, or...) and the next second I am looking at my desktop wallpaper. No error message or anything. Crash Reporter comes up sometimes and sometimes not. Report completes sometimes or sometimes not.

After today's patch I still get "Cider C Runtime Library" error message "ERROR -> buffer overrun!" when I exit normally from the game. I began getting this message for the first time with the original Tyrannis patch.
No experience with this latest patch, but in the first Tyrannis patch, I began experiencing client disconnects unrelated to loss of wifi connection. I do not remember having such disconnects in the Dominion patch.

Edited by: Serpents smile on 02/06/2010 18:38:05 I too have some crashes. I always run 2 clients at the same time. Previously when 1 client crashed I could be sure the other would do the same in a given amount of time, less then an hour.
Now only one of my client crashes. Sometimes. No warning, just one moment it is there the next it is not. Getting the client back can be a mater of seconds or it simply refuses it, like its not fully down yet.
I do notice some HD activity at some points like it are the Space shuttle onboard computers firing off on each other. 2 say crash now, 2 say don't crash and the 5th has to decide which camp will win. Sofar the don't crash camp won most of the time. Still freaks me out.
Anyway, I've seen worse.

Edited by: CK Terson on 03/06/2010 00:57:08 I got lots of crashes the first year i played eve, (im about 1.5 yrs in) I think since dominion, the client has been more stable for me, but since apocropha, i had a weird thing where the shift key would get stuck. I have NOT seen this since dominion. Cool. The client crashes upon logging off/quitting. but overall i get way less disconnects, as a matter of fact, the last time i got a crash or disconnect was awhile ago.
My question is this: Is anyone running sisi on their mac yet? I am not able to get write permission on the client download volume/.dmg, so i cant change the Info.plist -I contacted mac tech support and they sent me up to the highest dude and no luck. I trashed the .dmg and am currently trying over.

I am having intermittent crashes jumping through gates. Each trip through into a new system seems to run the risk of the client crashing. This is especially worrying as I live out in 0.0 and when I log back in I'm in the system I was jumping into. I think its possible that I might appear on grid in the remote system whilst I'm in the process of crashing and, as its likely to be a client fault, its unlikely that any resultant loss would be dealt with favorably by GMs.

Edited by: Cozarti Noom on 03/06/2010 14:13:15 I've already posted once, please reference system specs there, but I thought I should post again since the latest patch has actually worsened client performance. I see lots of graphical oddities that I wasn't seeing before, like floating asteroids with no texture, lots of graphical sputtering glitches on stations, weird sounds when jumping, complete loss of ingame sounds like turrets and shield booster. I almost lost a ship because I didn't think I was getting hit -- of course, it didn't sound like I was firing, either. That shoulda been a clue. Now I know better.
Irony: I didn't lose the sound until I tried to optimize my graphic settings for better performance, thinking it might help with the graphical glitches. Now the glitches are still there, with low specs, and now I have no in game sounds. Oh, and I restored graphics to the previous settings -- and still no sound. Maybe it will just magically come back in the future.
New player here.
Upon restarting client, still have incomplete sound. I'm going to get some breakfast.

If you have a window that has snapped to the top of the UI, and you double-click on the EVE window to bring it frontmost (not single-click, this requires a double-click), the window will resize -- the top of it will jump down the screen -- and the mouse cursor position will jump up to the new position of the top of the window.
This does not work with the window local is in.
Furthermore, it does not work if the OVERVIEW is snapped to the top of the UI. If the overview is in any other position (for example, selected item is above it, snapped to the top), then you get the bug.
More details -- with screenshots -- in bug 96356
Oh, and the "everything else slows to a crawl if EVE's window is totally obscured by other windows" bug is still there.

As usual, the expansion (and follow-up update) is a mess for mac users.
1. Client often crashes when selecting character from logon screen 2. Client crashes to desktop midgame (sometimes while you are just sitting still) 3. Keys still 'stick' periodically 4. Today I ran into issue of being unable to activate 1 module (DCII) while being able to activate others.
For me, the problems have become MORE common since the 1.01 patch

Client crashes every 10-15 gate jumps without any mesage.
Client crashes most time at closing with different mesages like (runtime error, buffer overvlow, C++ library error)
Crash Report doesn't work since link not found.
Graphic bug - stations and gates are "transparent", i can see the other side/lights of the stations flickering through, VERY annoying.
Typing in any channel looses keyboard focus - needs to leave client to get focus again.
At all the stability went worse compared before patch. :(

I am getting quite frequent crashes on Mac (snow leopard) - this was not an issue before the patch. No error message, just quits without warning.

Edited by: Gefgarion Askaris on 06/06/2010 15:56:42 I am also have the crash issue. Everytime I log out or exit EVE it will crash. And like everyone else the bug reporter freezes and basically crashes itself. I was also getting random disconnects/crashes every few minutes in game. Never had an issue with previous versions. I have found that setting up the Network Utility to constantly ping the EVE server will prevent the in-game crash, but not the shutdown crash.
And some sort of feedback from CCP would be nice.

My client crashes more than 10 times a day, usually after undocking or jumping. No exaggeration. The crash reporter didn't work at first, then worked for a day or so, and hasn't worked since. I hope there's a fix coming soon because this is just pathetic.

The drop down menus in the in-game browser do not work for me. Websites such as the online agent finder are unusable as I can't select a corp or a region.

I haven't been able to play since Monday because when I select my character the client crashes. Gonna try ANOTHER full install tonight and hope I'll be able to play... skill queue is empty now.
Thanks for the great update CCP...

There may be a mac specific problem with seeing other players CC on planets. Not absolutely sure (as they are very difficult to see anyway), but experimentation on a windows machine suggests that there is a mac problem here.
Also the incredibly starry sky (wormhole) bug has reoccurred, after a long absence.

Edited by: Flynn Fetladral on 13/06/2010 13:55:36 I've been random crash free for many many months, had two crashes since yesterday when jumping through a gate, soon as I jump and load system game has crashed. Obviously this has been limited to just two instances. First crash happened after a three hour roam so many many gates jumped. The crash report tool is a good idea, but it's failed to upload any data on both crashes now.

After roughly a minute of use client crashes. Doesn't just crash to desktop, crashes crashes. After some diagnostics it seems my video card reached critical temperature and killed system process. Desktop was cleaned recently.
Running most recent Tyranis on Tranquility, Mac specs are:
MacPro OSX 10.5.8 2x3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon 4GB 667MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM ATI Radeon X1900XT
If anyone has any advise as how to configure Eve video settings without opening the client I'd appreciate it.

Originally by: Utremi Fasolasi I just submitted a bug report about the crashes on logout as well as more serious, an issue where drones fail to attack on command. I just had a Retriever get very close to losing all shields while trying to get my drones to respond and had to tell them to return and warp out.
10.6.3, Mac Pro 2x 3.2 GHz Quad Core
Update: I renamed my Eve Preferences folder and redid overview and all other preferences and the drone issue went away but the quit on logout still happens, Dominix still has no turrets visible, and ditto on the issue with the ingame browser and popup menus, that is broken. |

Edited by: Kwahom Toblat on 21/06/2010 19:14:09 Edited by: Kwahom Toblat on 20/06/2010 17:26:38 Still love the game and in general the faults listed below in this latest release have not become too annoying yet, but if they remain unfixed for too long I can see myself getting really annoyed, especially if it means losing ships to client bugs (I have no problem losing ships to gameplay, thats just part of the game and I expect it to happen). SO it will mean either buying Windows 7 and using bootcamp (I really don't want to do this) or stop playing until the client becomes more stable.
So far since Tyrannis 1.0.1:
Crashing to Desktop without error message: at least 5-6 times Game freezing on quitting game: at least 10 times Quitting game produces error message " Buffer Overrun": at least 10 times Game freezing (unresponsive) after warping to belt, have to re-log: at least five times (one time lost a hulk to rats ) Crash reporting tool has only started after 3 4 crashes and then did not connect A few minor in game browser issues

As with most everyone else: occasional random crashes straight to desktop. Lockups on quitting. Crash reporter cannot connect to transgaming. Runtime overflow error on quitting. Modifier keys get "stuck".
Also:
Letters and other symbols in place of clouds at mission sites.
Export/import of overview does not work. It makes the .xml file, but will only import the first 2 settings. If you save setting 3 and up, then it imports NO settings.

Not only does the Mac client use WAY MORE CPU when disabled than enabled (rendering many systems unusable for anything else when Eve is running), but here's the weird thing:
If you hit cmd-Return to put Eve in windowed mode, the more of the window that is hidden, the more Eve loads your CPU. Worst case scenario is when the window contents are completely hidden or offscreen.
Please, please please fix this. There was a time when I could hide Eve and still use my computer. On Windows, you can minimize eve and it hardly effects the load at all. On any Mac but my 8-core Mac Pro, if I minimize eve I can't even type more than one character every couple of seconds.

I have found that using a wired connection instead of wireless resolves the issue of minimising and running other things in the background. with wireless it was practically impossible to do anything else once eve was running and it seems to be the way it uses the airport connection.

I tried that, even shut off airport. Doesn't help at all on my systems.

Since the beggining of July, I can't use mail, "Mail cache error". I've rebuild the whole thing, downloaded and installed EVE from scratch, to no avail. What's going on?. I can read notifications and even reply mail sent to me, but after that, I can't access mail window. Any fix? are you CCP aware of this?
Thanks

They are aware of the issue. Use EveGate to access your mail until they release a bug patch.

Another user with all the usual raft of problems,
- Jumping, through Gates or using Capital Jump drives can crash the game (just cost a corp mate a cerb).
Mail cache errors. Performance that is terrible compared to running it under bootcamp. Game crashes at downtime and opens 3 instances of itself. Game trys to reopen multiple copies after a crash where some are windowed and some aren't and the screen will occasionally flicker in such cases. Cyno graphic causes all textures to flick into extreme low res mode. Occasionally apple-q for quiting will hang the machine requiring a hard reset to recover The game seems to be unable to exit cleanly, always crashing or prompting with buffer overrun. Performance when multi-tasking is terrible though seems to improve if in map mode Battles with >20 people require playing in either map mode or zoomed right out, irrespective of lag. Anomalies require max zoomout to have reasonable frame rate and zooming into asteroids or rock formations makes the game unplayable
All of the above experienced on a Macbook Pro 4gb ram and gforce 9600M gt and a Mac Mini. None of the above exist when playing on the same machines under bootcamp.
When will we see the most recent changed from Wine merged into the client? I'm guessing there is no intention of crating a native client? Is it possible to petition losses caused by client crashes?
