As many will remember, in 2009 CCP took a strong stance against RMTs and botters and downright devastated an huge number of them.
Today and the next 2 weeks it'll be a very valuable time to assess how the phenomenon is trying to return.
As some will know, large diffusion bots use a certain methodology that the newest client broke.
Immediate result in my daily surveyed "hot" systems: dramatic, vertical crash in the numbers in local
In particular, in a certain "The Forge" system with ice belts, we always (and I mean 23/7 of every single day since when I started surveying it 6 months ago) had from 72 to 126 people in local.
Those people, reported and re-reported again and again, in some cases are using up to 9 (nine) Mackinaws piloted by identically named characters (only a prefix or suffix changes). That guy in particular is selling an average of 5.5M nitrogen isotopes a week. This means the guy is making 2.2B a week with EULA breaking means.
To return back to the topic, today there are from 7 to 9 in local. You read it right, from *seven* to *nine*. At this time of the day there were never less than 42 people, usually 65+.
The guys with suspiciously same name pilots clustered in little blobs are ALL gone.
Is this purely due to people going in vacation? All got patch issues?
Or does it say that we need another, heavy intervention by CCP? (The drop could also be due to CCP having done like last year and made another stealth Holy Rage, who knows... I'd love it was true).

Agreed. We are well due for Unholy Rage II.
Since CCP are apparently unable to restore lag to it's pre-Dominion levels, they might at least restore the macroers to their pre-Dominion levels.
With miners facing a sharp drop in their income in the short term, this is a matter of particular urgency to them.

Denied, CCP would face a sharp drop of its income in the short term. People who didn't get by now that CCP ****ing loves macros and only ban a few from time to time for the show have trouble coping with reality.

Uh huh. How do you square that with the original Unholy Rage?

No, as a company you simply have to wait long enough to ban them to make it profitable for them to re-subscribe. Rocket science, I know. VOTE CAT

CCP would make waaaayyyy more without macros.
All those isk sellers would then go buy plexes to sell them, which means more income for CCP instead of more income for macros that ccp gets a tiny percentage of (via subscriptions).

It's getting funnier by the minute. Now we are up to *drumrolls* 10 people in local (usually it was 4-5 times more at this hour).
Newcomers are wondering wtf is going on:

I agree, but it would also be nice if CCP released numbers more often on how many macro's banned, and what it has done for server performance so there would be actual evidence. I don't belong to the tinfoil hat club, and I don't think CCP likes macros any more than we do, but it'd be awesome if there were more unholy rage type blogs, or maybe even a monthly updated tracker showing macros banned and what it's done for server performance or something.

I would just like to give my two cents on this.
5 years ago I started my campaign against macro miners and RMT's (they are different for those who dont know)
I have used every trick in the book to engage the macro miners and RMT's and have had a successful time doing it. Between me and my friends we have destroyed billions of isk worth of ships belonging to said macro miners.
My local system also has the other RMT's, the mission runners. Now anyone with an ounce of sense will now that it is physically impossible for someone to play 23/7. They have to account share.
Getting to the point now :) . I am still a very active player and can confirm that my local system has been missing the usual strange names that the farmer employ. I myself managed to infiltrate one of these corps and managed to get a huge log of convo's of broken english about how these guys run missions, give thier isk to the account owner and sell it on ebay and websites. I reported all my findings to CCP and give them thier due, after a few days I didnt see any of these guys log on, and they havent since. CCP has a hard job dealing with the thousands of players that play every day so monitoring and reading through the amounts of petitions they must get is a lot of work.
I am still hunting these RMT's and macro miners and will always hunt them, its what I play for.
Just go easy on CCP, they do try. |
