From what I heard, the best first ship to buy is a Bantom. Do you guys agree with that? If so, what would you recommend as a second ship? Probably an indy right?

Ship choice is really an individual decision, everyone has a ship they like and specific reasons for liking it. I would suggest going to www.eve-i.com and take a look at the ship stats and figure out what you want.. Cargo hold, slot count, drones, etc etc..
As for corporations, in-game join the Recruitment channel (pull up your channel list) there are always corps recruiting.. But take your time and pick one that suits you.. What you want from the game, philosophy, active times... Leaving a corp is automatic once you join another corp..

Depends totally on race and proffession.
For Gallente your likely to choose between and navitas and an atron. Minmatar you'll probably get a slasher or burst (or probe as they're often seen very cheap and are very good ). Amarr is the executioner or Tormenter. Caldari is bantam or condor. The Gallente Imicus is comparable to the probe - not sure on how much it's seen for though.
Of those named my personal favourites are the atron, probe and executioner. Tormenters ok but beaten by the probe and the navitas.
I havn't been a caldari though so can't really comment on their ships.

thr pobe has less drone space then the imicus, but is comparable in price. But I think you need ot ask yourself is how much you want to spend ( as if you go outside your race you will have to buy a new skill for 40k ) and what it is you want to accomplish next, If you are mining you want to go for decent cargo space, a bantam is fine for that and cheap to start with, Then I would look at a probe or imicus for mining, IF you want a compbat vessel it will have less cargo space but more slots.
bantam, tormentor, etcc are lowened and you can egt them as low as 20k, I have not seen probe or imicus for less that 75k

First ship I bought was a Slasher... then an Excecutioner (nice to infiltrate Amarr space in *grins*).
It's a matter of style... I might buy a Rifter eventually, but not any time soon. Nor am I planning to fly Cruisers.
Think what you want to do in this game and search a ship that fits it.
