Hello, our relatively small-sized medium corp (78 members) is deciding that we want to have a fast and maneuverable frigate sized fleet to defend our low-sec planetary assets come June 8th.
This is the current fleet setup that we are preparing to use (we have an average of 31 players online, so we built a 31 man fleet). With the exception of the Kitsune, it is an all Amarr fleet, we've decided that the Kitsune is indispensable.
All comments will be appreciated. Please do not suggest that we use cruisers, we're doing this partly "for the lulz." Most of our pilots are trained in Amarr and Caldari, so please do not suggest Gallente or Minmatar unless you absolutely think we're missing a critical ship (frigate sized)
Role: 1st point tackle (warp disruptor) Ship: Malediction x 3
Role: Heavy Tackle (scramble + web) Ship: Vengeance x3
Role: Target Jamming (3 jammers per ship) Ship: Kitsune x2
Role: Target Disruption (2 disruptors per ship) Ship: Sentinel x3
Role: Logistics (2 remote armor reps + cap stable) Ship: Vengeance x2
Role: Logistics (1 remote armor rep + 1 remote hull rep + cap stable) Ship: Vengeance x 2
Role: Covert Ops (standard build) Ship: Anathema
Role: Interdiction (only if needed in null sec, may use Sabre's instead) Ship: Heretic x2
Role: DPS Ship: Retribution x8 (246 dps per ship)
Role: Stealth Bomber: (5800 volley, 762 dps sustained) Ship: Purifier x3
Role: Anti-tackle (198 dps + scramble + 5300 m/s base speed) Ship: Crusader x2
Combined dps: 6000 - 7000 raw dps

Planetary assets? How do they need defending.
But anyway, goonswarm ftw, go for it.

A lot of your numbers seem to be off. Do all of your pilots have lvl V skills on everything relevant?
762 dps sustained on a bomber?
198dps + 5300m/s speed on a Crusader?
And using Vengence for logistic purposes? Why not use the sentinels, and have them use logi drones while neuting the enemies cap? This way you leave the Vengence to do what it is meant to do. Damage/Tackle. Or flat out replace them with Retributions for more dps if you have enough tackle.
Also, keep in mind that theorycrafting is all nice on paper, but its application can be tricky. Not everyone will be in range to the target to do anything. And this isn't even factoring in the experience level of every pilot and their preparedness. As it stands, you have a veritable who's who of frigates. With so many types of ships, a few losses can really put a kink in your fleet and ruin the mojo. Why not just go with 10 crusaders, 6 kitsune, 4 sentinels, 10 purifiers, 1 anathema?

Edited by: Vladimiru on 30/05/2010 02:18:07 The vengeance is used for logistics because it has a very powerful tank (21k ehp) while speed tanking itself at 820 m/s and can remain cap stable while using two remote armor reps, or one remote armor rep + one remote hull rep.
Crusaders have almost no tank and use MWD, thus will be popped when fighting cruisers for any sustained amount of time, they must also get VERY CLOSE (within scram and web range) to the target to do good damage, the Retribution on the other hand has a good AB speed tank and a decent armor tank and more dps at 15-20 km range. CCP designed the Retribution for this type of fleet, hence the single medium slot. Otherwise the Retribution is USELESS in a non-frigate fleet, bring a cruiser for dps instead.
Btw 198 dps on a a crusader isn't hard with 2 heat sinks and energy burst + collision rig, and with two overdrives can easily go over with 5 km/s without max skills.
The Sentinel's will have light armor repair bots.
The point of having at least 2-3 of each ship is so we can afford to lose 1 or 2 without being severely crippled.
If we have an abundance of pilots, the rest of them will be piloting Purifiers and Rets for the increased dps, so we could see as many as 10-15 purifiers on a good day.
With crappy skills you can still get a 5k + volley from a Purifier too.
You can defend planetary assets by denying the enemy access to their colonies if they build on your planet

As a point of preference I'd drop the saders for slicers.
Also designating amarr/caldari only handicaps you quite badly. Any similar gang using Ranises (Ranii?), Jags and Wolves will tear you a new one. ---------- Who, me? |

Swap some of the vengs for Ishkurs. For "Logistics" functions use drones. It works much, much better.
Swap the the other vengs for ... I dunno... slicers or something.
Wolfs could work too.
Maybe swap all of the vengs for Ishkurs.
Vengeances are really, really bad.
Unless part of the lulz is running a vengeance fleet.

Dont bother with RR, or T2 ships, just bring 30 punishers, fit them with AC and beat the crap out of anything you meet. 30 T1 frig will melt any any hac or BS in a few secs.

Great fleet if you are planning to blob 3 or 4 people max. Frigs are good at hitting fast and moving on. Not to defend assets. Ever heard of how easily frigs get taken down by sniper BC/HAC?

If you want an army with small ships then I would go with thrashers all the way. Good dps, very nice scan res and speed... with the numbers you have you will melt battleships like butter.
Any small/medium fleet could have some serious trouble with a bunch like that. Especially when you consider the fact that if you kill 1-2 BS you will have pretty much made the money of the entire thrasher fleet back and more.

why not just let everyone fly what they want? if you show upw ith 30 frigs the enemy will be having a hard time anyway even if they are all crappy t1 frigs with t1 fit they will tear apart a ship quite fast

More or less. Just tell people to fit as many guns as they can, to fit damage mods, fit some buffer and mwd and tackle and go out and have fun.
One covops would be immeasurably handy.

So, you actually managed to put up a fleet without the obviousily best frigates. No Rifters, No Jaguars, No Ishkurs and No Dramiels.. Well... Id love to get across one of those fleets :)
