Edited by: Kcel Chim on 14/12/2004 06:50:50 after some testing on sisi i came to the following conclusions / results:
1 mn abs will be totally utterly useless and only for noobs. The frigs wont be going fast enough to evade even torpedos so thats a no go.
cruisers, especially bc's and assaultcruisers will be punchingbags for ravens and other missleships. Reason ? Only 1 mwd wont enable them to substain long enough the speed needed and the torps and cms will just catch up. Oversized abs didnt work at all, neither do oversized mwds (on mallers i.e.) work at all. The speed was someway around 2-3 times normal speed after a few boosts, not even enough to outrun a torpedo going at 750 m/s.
Even with a 10mn mwd i have my doubt many ppl will outrun the cruisemissles or the heavy missles of the caracal in future so ravens will just blow everything out of the water. A webbed mwd using cruiser (considering cruisers will rely purely now on mwds as abs just dont give enough speed to have a slim change for agility and topspeed) will also be gunnerys bullseye....
worst change ever in my book dudes.
Just a sidenote, why do you implement all the new ships, skills and t2 stuff when it all comes down to a 2.5 million skp noobie char with a raven + cruise missles to own the world, regardless of what anyone else flies or fits? 6 x Torpedos + 2x Hvy Nos/ med. energy neutrals t2 + some tanking and a warpdisruptor > own > all gunnery skills on 5 and battlecruiser on 4 and t2 guns. So in future, see a raven and run for the hills as there is no way you can get anywhere to scramble him or do any damage to him without him beeing jammed to hell (well he could fit 3-5 warpcore stabs and just fire cruise missles) and he would simply own you at any time of the day by using drones and fofs but thats another story.

Hmm so because you are bored of the current system anyone who is not a raven pilot can pay the next 2 month but not bother to play cause it will be rather impossible to beat a raven with anything but another raven or in ganks ? Plus all ppl who trained up for bc and assaultcruisers can just go in a very long xmas break ?
Sounds reasonable to me.... P.S. Soon (tm) is also the projectile patch coming. something overdue for like 3 ? month, figure how long missles will take.

O_o that shall make it better than it is now?? rofl.
to accelerate to max speed with an oversized AB on a cruiser would takle longer than the action lasts.
yes thats why it actually never happens and you get stuck with only a 300-400$ speedboost. My maller with oversized ab just did 625 m/s after all my cap was cycled through from the ab, so prolly 3-4 runs. Forget to fly anywhere bar straight as thats impossible, its like a very slow bullet flying just in 1 direction no way to change course....

So what the effects on BS's what kind of speeds are we talking about on lets say Megathrong and Tempest? And does it take forever to go fast enough to make the AB's viable on close range setups?
In the new situation afterburners need about half the powergrid of a bs mwd. Their speedoutput was about 100% compared to the 400+% of the mwd. The acceleration is slower and the agility is awefull with ab activated, mwd is still module of choice if u want to be quick in shortrange and maybe need to turn into targets direction before you accelerate. The ability to only fit 1 ab also limits the usefullness of that module further, especially as the mwd gets upgraded by removing its currently common 25% shield penalty (the mwd only gives -25% on sisi).
As a conclusion the whole AB branch got nerfed and is only usefull for ships who generally travel shortly and are long range and dont rely on speed as the only advantage are really the lighter fitting reqs of the ab.
