Greetings to the EVE community,
I would like to present my project, a browser-based fitter named Osmium. Just like Pyfa, or EFT, you can create fits and everything, except it's done in a browser. So, for example, you can play with it from work, or from a tablet/mobile device and have all your loadouts there.
Osmium is a bit more than just a fitter though, it's also a platform to share loadouts (kind of like Battleclinic). The search function is very powerful, and you can have very fine-tuned filters: you can filter by ship name, by tags, by author, or by fitted modules. You can also of course search the title or description (with full-text search).
Feel free to try it, and provide feedback if you wish. Access it here: http://osmium.artefact2.com The meta page is here: http://artefact2.com/osmium/ (contains screenshots, more info and more links).
Features- Loadout privacy settings: you can make loadouts only accessible to yourself, or your corporation (or alliance). You can even make "hidden" fits that you share by giving the URI to your friends (like private youtube videos).
- You can password-protect loadouts.
- You can import (and export) loadouts from the following formats: CLF (and gzCLF), EVE XML, EFT and DNA.
- Smart batch import: you can import multiple fits at once (for example, paste a chat log and import all the fits that were linked).
- Presets: you can cram several variations of the same concept in one loadout!
- Pain-free registration: no email needed, API verification optional.
- All loadouts are versioned, so you edit away and revert your changes if you want (and you can link to a specific version of a loadout).
- Free and opensource software: Osmium is released under the GNU AGPL version 3. All the depedencies are also under GPL-compatible licenses, so you can run your own copy of Osmium if you want, using only free software.
- Open format: supports the open Common Loadout Format (more information here).
Caveats- Performance: the current server does not have a lot of up bandwidth, so it may be slow, and there's nothing that can be done about that. If you have a spare server with decent specs and bandwidth, contact me if you are interested in hosting Osmium.
- Bugs: there may be some. Please report issues on the bugtracker.
- Browser support: latest Firefox and Chrome are known to work. Don't expect any IE under version 9 to work. Actual IE9 support is unknown (I cannot test it). If you notice layout/rendering issues, please specify your browser and your version (and a screenshot of the issue, if applicable).
For developers If you want to contribute to the project, feel free to contact me and we can discuss about things together.
You can leave feedback in this thread, on IRC, or by email. See contact for contact details.

Raavanan wrote:Can you make it so that ship selection is like in the in game market menu? with a drop down at each hull size. That might make it a bit easier to choose. If I find an non-obtrusive way to do it, then maybe. With the current design, you can just focus the list and type in the first letters of the ship you want to select (for example, if you type "Meg" it will select the Megathron). Using something more fancy will probably break this feature.
Raavanan wrote:Another suggestion is to choose mods from a list instead of typing the names in the search. I am assuming it could be done in a browser based tool too. It can be done, yes, but it would take lots of screen space, and I don't really know where I would put it. What you can do it put the modules you use frequently in your shortlist, to have them always directly accessible. |

Alright, I worked on the ship select a bit, made it use the market categories.
You can test it here: http://osmium-test.artefact2.com/new
I need to find a way to make it keyboard-friendly, until then feel free to give your opinion/suggestions. |

Hatsumi Kobayashi: thank you! I added a market-like browser now, and I used tabs in the right column to save space. I hope you like it!
Hrett: thanks. For the moment, no, the engine will assume all skills are level five. Supporting custom skillsets is planned, and isn't hard, but it would need a lot of new UIs to manage them properly, so it's not highest priority. I hope you understand. (I am also open to contributions, patches welcome!) |

Big update!
Not only was the database updated (with the Inferno 1.2 changes), some new features were added, namely:
- Atom feeds available on the main page for new/updated loadouts
- You can vote on loadouts/comments, and gain reputation by getting upvotes
- Profile page now shows cast votes and reputation changes
- Available charges are now sorted by damage in the fitting creation page (and show the damage type)
- Show mining yield (in m-¦/h) in the attributes section (just in time for the barge changes!)
- Improved search of modules: try searching for "cn bcs", "rf tp", "a-type eanm", "dc2" or even "therm hardener ii", and you'll see how awesome it is!
I hope you like these changes, because I do! Feedback is always welcome. |

Version 0.4.1 released, quicker than expected because the API server started acting a bit crazy and it was causing problems.
I set up a changelog page here: http://artefact2.com/osmium/changelog be sure to check it (it will be updated with new releases too) to see what changed.
Anyway. Osmium has been released for a month now, and I'm quite pleased about how it all went. Here are some numbers:
- 118 accounts created, 32 of those are API verified and 53 have submitted at least one loadout;
- 348 globally unique fits submitted (including loadout revisions, etc.) in 184 loadouts, 136 of those are public and visible (ie searchable);
- Most popular hulls: Skiff (7 loadouts), Thorax (7), Retriever (5), Procurer (5), Myrmidon (5), Tengu (5), Mackinaw (5) and Drake (5);
- Most popular modules: Heavy Neutron Blaster II (77 fitted), Medium CDFE I (77), Damage Control II (69), Invulnerability Field II (42), Ballistic Control System II (36);
- Traffic: about 4k unique visitors, 200k hits representing 550 MiB of bandwidth.
Keep it going, and thanks to everyone! |

After getting some feedback about the complicated domain, I bought a new one: http://o.smium.org
Hopefully this is easier to remember for everyone (and also shorter to type). Don't worry about links pointing to the old address, they will automatically be redirected to the new address.
Also, I've got some new stuff ready for 0.5.0 (see the todo-list), expect a new version soon! |

Hey guys,
I've been working on improving the looks lately. Mainely I've switched to a dark color theme and added a few gradients here and there, and chose more consistent colors overall.
The preliminary feedback I got was good, I am still open to yours of course. This is in no way "a" "final" theme.

Version 0.6.0 finally released. It includes the new theme and new URIs for private loadouts.
If you have posted links to private loadouts somewhere, you'll have to update them because they will no longer work. (Sorry about this, this is the last time this will happen.)
Feedback welcome! Again, you can contact me via IRC, email or here. |

Tornii wrote:Good work.
Three things you could improve IMO:
(1) Selection to only show some of the mod classes (T II, faction, T I) in mod browser would greatly reduce the huge drop-down list;
(2) The header texts ('Browse Loadouts', 'Presets', 'Attributes', mod browse headers, etc) would look better with a more subtle font type (Like the one which denotes mod slots);
(3) Ability to choose between dark and light themes would be great. I'm currently working on the "create loadout" page, to make it simpler and stateless. I'll try to make the browser take filters into account too. I made the decision to use a serif font for headings because they really benefit from being rendered with a larger size, and also to clearly distinguish headings from content. I'm sure you'll get used to it :)
When I changed the theme, I knew people would want the possibility to choose between the two. I'll try to make a simple theme switcher soon.
I am still open for feedback and opinion, also if you are really interested don't hesitate to come and hang in the IRC channel. |

Zor'katar wrote:One nice feature would be some sort of filter-by-Eve-version, so that it's easy to tell (for example) pre-Odyssey fits from post-Odyssey fits. Simple filter by date would be possible but not perfect. Maybe something with tags.
(A longer-term goal could be to allow multiple fitting profiles for ships based on the Eve version selected. That way, if future announced changes are added in, people could theorycraft fits for the upcoming version without borking the current fits.) Thanks for suggesting that, I have been thinking about how to tackle this issue.
Unfortunately with the current architecture it's impossible to use more than one version of the EVE database, so I always use the same version as the current version on Tranquility. What I could do is run a parallel Osmium instance with a different database (for example with a Singularity database or whatever the testing server's name is), but it would be completely disconnected from the main Osmium instance, and due to the volatile nature of test servers, it would probably be updated (possibly reset if CCP decides to roll back lots of stuff) regularly.
What I could do is automatically (based on creation date) add a tag with the expansion name, like "retribution-12" or "odyssey-10", which would allow anyone to easily filter loadouts or see which loadouts are still relevant or not. I could also automatically add such tag to new fits (so, all fits created from now would have the tag "odyssey-10" too). What is your opinion on this?
supr3m3justic3 wrote:How and where are the charecter API's stored, and would there be any chance of misuse of them?
I only ask because we are playing EvE. Your API keys are stored in a PostgreSQL database. Since Osmium is free software, you can see how your key is used and how it is stored (the schema is here).
I use it for authentication, that is, allowing you to use your character name in Osmium (and the % in front of your name will be there to indicate your account is API verified, and you are not usurping someone else's character).
I also use it to detect cheating on votes (for example, you could create 3 characters on your EVE account, with 3 Osmium accounts, and you could vote 3 times on things, giving you an unfair advantage), for this I use the creation date of your account (which is far from perfect, but at least there are no false negatives).

Osmium 0.7.0 is out. Despite the major version change, there are no new big features (although there were big internal changes).
Here is what's new:- It is now possible to search loadouts by ship type (try searching for "battlecruiser" or "interceptor").
- You can switch between a light and a dark theme (click the "Paint it black/white" link in the bottom-right corner of the page).
- Unborked the notifications page (sorry it took so longGǪ).
As usual, the full changelog is here.

Interesting, I can't reproduce the issue here sadly. Is it only on a specific loadout (or with certain modules) or is it all the time? Have you tried the usual cache clearing routine or tried in another browser? http://o.smium.org/ - A browser-based fitter and loadout sharing platform |

Have you tried the usual cache clearing routine or tried in another browser? Tried a few new loadouts with different hulls... all the same issue. Although, one correction... if I double-click a hi slot module while there's a different hi slot module in the top hi slot, the new module will blip through the mid slots like described, then just disappear (not overwrite the previous top-hi-slot module). If I click and drag the module to an empty slot, then it overwrites the module in the top slot. Only other browser I have on this machine is IE8 (work computer, so I can't get too fancy with it). I'll try from home tonight if I remember.

Zor'katar wrote:Any chance of increasing the tag limit on fits? There are a number of tags that could apply to most fits (PvP vs. PvE, shield vs. armor, fleet vs. solo, gun/missile/support, cheap vs. expensive, high-sp vs. low-sp), and 5 tags may not really cover it all. If you end up going with a version tag, that'll put further pressure on. I'm guessing the point of the limit is to prevent the ridiculous add-all-tags thing that some people like to do on BC, but I would think you could safely double the limit.
I've finally decided to not store the version in a tag, because it would make it very difficult to do queries like "get me loadouts for Odyssey 1.0 or newer". (I went with storing the build number, so sorting is easy.) So the tag limit will not be artificially decreased in the future because of that. I get your concern though; in fact proper tag management is very difficult (some tags should be aliased to another, like "long-range" and "snipe", etc.).
Another idea I originally had was to add a special tag (for example "tag-me") to loadouts without tags, and allow users (with enough reputation) to retag loadouts. Unfortunately the whole reputation thing doesn't seem to have taken off yet (are none of the loadouts upvote-worthy? ), so the site is not ready for that yet.
Don't worry, I'll increase the maximum number of tags in the next release. http://o.smium.org/ - A browser-based fitter and loadout sharing platform |

Expect an update tomorrow. The internal format used for loadouts will change, so if you have any non-saved loadouts (like a loadout you're currently editing), please save them as soon as possible or they will be lost!
I will also probably change the server Osmium is being hosted on, and due to DNS caches the transition will be more or less smooth for people. Look up the server name in the footer. If you see version 0.8.0 running on Golgotha, you are still accessing the old server. You can still access it as usual, but if you do changes (like editing a loadout) expect them to be lost during the transition. If you are seeing version 0.9.0 running on Tetroxide, you're good!

EFT doesn't show the Gallente Battleship skill affecting the gun, so its figure for falloff is probably incorrect.
The Osmium figure is definitely accurate (18.8 km, rounded in the tooltip). You can see all the affectors are correctly there, and here's a screenshot of the fitting on TQ. http://o.smium.org/ GÇö v0.10.1 GÇö A browser-based fitting tool and loadout sharing platform |

It's there, in fact you can compute any derived attribute you want from other attributes. The interface for this isn't very user-friendly yet (you have to write the expression for the new attribute in reverse polish notation in the URI).

Thanks Jubal!
Effective DPS against another loadout is a great idea, however it's so complicated that the only reasonable thing that could be implemented in a reasonable time would be just to look at the target's resistances and apply them to your ammo's damage distribution. For the transversal velocity and signature radius, you can already take it into account by using the DPS graph and entering the values of the target manually.
About the bug, if it happens to you again, please open your Javascript console (F12 then console tab) and see if there's any errors in there, and report them on Github or on IRC if you can. These issues seem to appear randomly, so any steps on how to reproduce would be a big help too!
Best regards, Indalecia http://o.smium.org/ GÇö v0.12.1 GÇö A browser-based fitting tool and loadout sharing platform |

Hi everyone,
Sorry for the small unexpected downtime that just happened. I installed the certificate on the production machine, and of course things went wrong. It was done kind of in a hurry because SSO-árequires HTTPS.
It should be fine now. Enjoy https://o.smium.org !

Loraine Gess wrote:This is a very fine utiltiy and makes it pretty easy to share fits. My problem in doing so is that as long as you're creating a loadout the URL seems to remain static. You might then change it, say to an entirely different ship. I'd prefer a sort of static "export" where you permalink a fit, or at least hold it for a reasonable period of time. Then a user can export a modified loadout as needed. I think I see what you mean. Basically you want permanent URIs that change accordingly when you're creating a loadout. That would be fairly resource-intensive to do, or you'd have to deal with very very long URIs. A compromise (that works for simple loadouts) is to export as DNA, then use a /loadout/new/dna/ URI to share it to other people. Still open to other solutions, if you have any.
Of course it gets simpler if you have an account, you can just save the loadout as hidden, then have permanent links to specific revisions of the loadout which people can then fork as they like.
Loraine Gess wrote:Smashes as many drones in as it can at once, by default anyway. I think "add maximum to space" should be a context option. I believe it's the most appropriate behavior in most cases (most loadouts will use 5 of the same type of drones in space, mixed drones are rarer). You can still add only one drone (and move drones around) via context menu.
Loraine Gess wrote:Module search gives very few # of results, and doesn't proceed in a liner fashion. Searching for common named or basic modules means I need to flip faction/deadspace off and then back on. I'm sure there's an easier way to do that. Maybe a "meta" toggle? Right. I believe it's more efficient to refine the search query than browsing through lots of results. The code changed quite a bit since, and returning more types isn't really expensive, so I'll bump the number of results that get returned in the next release.
Just in case you don't already know, you can search for types by using abbreviations (like "c-type aif" or "dc2"), so in most cases you'll get the type you want first (and you can even hit Return a second time to add the first result to the loadout). If you're looking for a specific meta level but forgot the name, use @ml, for example "gyro @ml 4" or "lar @ml 14".
Also, the ranking algorithm will be changed in the next release, so searching for something simple like "tengu" will return the ship first and not all the subsystems.
Loraine Gess wrote:Does not, as far as I can see, give the actual capacitor #. This is important in cap warfare and certain really silly PVE fits. This is definitely a problem that I will try to fix in the next release.
Thanks for the feedback, and don't hesitate to give more, or report issues!

Loraine Gess wrote:Last thing I remembered: At one point I added a 6% rate of fire implant to a fit and it seemed to have deleted the ship. The fit itself was there, but the hull type disappeared and thus there were no base stats. I simply re-added the hull and have not encountered the issue since. Not sure what it could have been tied to.
Not sure what happened there. If you find a way to reproduce the issue, that's great and you should report it! (If it appears randomly, try to check your Javascript console (F12 -> console) and report any errors that may be there.)
You can always refresh the page if you think your browser is acting funky (it won't lose progress on your loadout). http://o.smium.org/ GÇö v0.12.1 GÇö A browser-based fitting tool and loadout sharing platform |

The Scylla update got rid of the .stuff files. Meaning reverence is broken. Meaning there is no way to dump the data required by Osmium and libdogma.
Until it is fixed (if it gets fixed, reverence is not maintained by me), we cannot update Osmium/libdogma to use the Scylla changes.
Why not use the SDE? Well for one, the SDE is only published in mssql format (ie unusable on my GNU+Linux machine) and there are no conversions made by third parties yet. Also it doesn't contain everything (ship traits) and will require some coding to get it working.

Good idea. You can make the task easier (ie not having to save 5 loadouts) by forking, updating the charges, export to DNA and copy it to the compare page. Example.
