Just tested my agent running Crow (with 10MN AB) in test server. Only needed to replace my ballistic control with another power diagnostic II.
Crow is going ~7800m/s with Y-S8 AB

Cant wait for fitting a 100MN AB on my prophecy then (got the spare grid). But didn't they want to change the behavior of oversized ABs? Anything of that in sight yet?

I'd like to test 100MN AB with Ferox but can't find Feroxes from market. So I did some more testing with Crow (lvl3 Angel Surprise mission).
1MN AB II: Not enough speed to run out light missiles. Got pretty much owned by little rats.
1MN MWD: Took hits even with high speed (sig rad) and unusable in DS (most of the missions). Also problems with cap (shield recharger).
10MN Y-S8: Orbit at 14km with 6km/s and owned all easily with Bloodclaws
So I'll stick with 10MN AB. I'll have to let lose my Ballistic Control, but maybe I'll just learn Standard Missiles lvl5 to get max damage. And another Power Diag II is giving some more cap and shield recharge. And I don't mind my Crow going 2km/s in web (75%).
So here is my setup for lvl3 mission running Crow:
3 x Arbalest Standard Y-S8 10MN Afterburner Gistii A-Type Small Shield Booster Cap Recharger II Micro Aux Power 2 x Power Diagnostic II
CPU: 133/187.5 PWR: 62/62.02
Runs AB forever (+7800m/s). Don't have that shield booster on test-server, but in TQ I tried AB+booster for 1min 20sec. Another Power Diag II gives some more time for that.

All it gets is some shield, while the whole reason for not using mwd for some of it's supposed targets (raven, scorp) is gone. The ship suffering most from the remaining penalty is the Megathron since it lacks cap as it is.
Every Raven fitted with MWD is now an even more impossible kill for a blasterboat then it was before. If you can't outlast it's cap, you won't get into range at all, and if you do, it'll take too long anyway.
Same for any opponent that will use the new and improved AB's. Given a higher speed means the blasterboat must spend more cap getting into range, which means less chance of success when at range.
I really think the megathron especially can use some kind of help in the cap or mwd use department.
Ravens cant use cap relays, megas can
Close, Drexciyian, but too far from the truth. You see a Megathron needs to run a speed boosting module, which absolutely robs it of cap, a decent tank, as well as some damage mods to even begin do enough damage. This leaves extremely little place for CPR or Cap Rechargers. Truth be told, the Megathron cannot even begin approach the capacitor yield that the Raven has. The Raven, on the other hand, do not need capacitor for it's guns, has guns that hit well from both long and extremely short ranges, and can also change to do even more damage in close combat by simply reloading into torpedoes!
I am fully confident that a Raven can take down a Megathron that is fitted with Blasters, unless the Megathron lands very favourably on the Raven. The simple fact that Blasters are the most capacitor intensive weapons in the game will see to it that the Megathron will have little to no tanking, and this means thatthe Raven's lower damage output will be evened out in the Ravens advantage in that the Raven will effectively have much more hitpoints.
While the Megathron, and to a lesser degree Dominix, suffer from low capacitor, in my oppinion the true Achilles heal of the entire Gallente armada is that they are all slow, heavy and unagile, and are thus not suited for being close combat ships. This saddens me, because I consider a dedicated closecombat ship something of the most fun to drive! --

please confirm this!
by the end of testing: 1. oversized afterburners won't hit 7km/s and crap like that, they'll be slower than MWD? 2. only one propulsion sub system will be used at a time? ----- ----- -----

Edited by: Jakal on 12/12/2004 17:42:56 yes you can still use oversized ABs on ships. yes they will be better then proper sized MWDs(if you dont count 2.5 times PG need). yes a oversized AB wont let you acclerate as fast a MWD would. and imo yes gallente will get shafted the most by these proplusion changes. istead of asking a bunch of stupid questions why dont some of you just go on to sisi for 10 mins and see for your selves or just keep your traps shut and hope for the best.

it will make caldari ships Better better then gallente ships...
And how does that change anything?
As long as the Mega is still gimped on cpu and capacitor, both Scorp and Raven will utterly destroy it.
The only thing the new propulsion rules will do is making frigs more vulnerable, but more versatile at the same time, and nerf dual oversizing on Amarr and some Caldari ships. Two things I personally don't really mind.
Now if them damned Assault frigates weren't so ridiculously heavy, they might actually make 700 with a 1mn AB, which is quite an acceptable combat cruising speed IMO. ------------------------------------------------------- "Do you really think that's air you're breathing?" |

Edited by: Vampire Blade on 12/12/2004 20:16:37 ok, i played around on sisi! wow. just wow. the new oversizing is awesome, but in a bad way. what penalty do these come with for being insanely pro? lower agility? hardly noticeable. 10 more power grid? nothing another MAPC can't sort out. if that's the price i have to pay for being absolutely unhittable then cool, i'll pay it B)
btw, this is even when webbed lolololo. ----- ----- -----
