You asked us to go check them out, and I did.
The current stats for the new AB's are 105% boost. (135% for AB II's)
The PG requirements have gone up too. from 500 to ~650 (iirc)
I tried fitting out my agent mission cruiser with the oversized AB, and tbh, I couldn't find a decent setup that would fit.
This may cause some upset. A lot of people had gotten used to having oversize AB's, and this will probably knacker a lot of them.
Personally, I'll stick with the standard sized ones from now on.
Just as a point to mention, being able to fit an oversize with the new stats will give you 1050% speed boost now. Which is equivalent to two standard size MWDs, so it may be well worth the PG penalty.
Also, MWD's no longer have a shield penalty. That's a good thing. .

well 135% isnt much. So it isnt a valid replacement of a MWD on a Blasterboat. _____________________________________ Dead or Alive

I thought I remembered them saying they were also going to change how oversized ABs worked on ships, so just because you currently get 10x the boost now doesn't mean it will be that way in the near future.
its nice that they increase the bonus on normal ABs now though... I pretty much found that normal sized ABs as they are now are almost totally useless, because as is unless your ship is really fast already the gain you get is almost unnoticable.
one other thing I would like to see changed with ABs now is a little bit larget variety of sizes. Being that they don't want us to use oversized ABs anymore, we need something for the larger ship types that will still keep the speed bonus worth while. maybe like a 2-3mn a 15-20mn and a 150-200mn AB as well as the normal 1, 10, 100 now. many of the elite frigates for example are really close to 2mil kg
as far as MWDs, (I haven't really used them yet, but only heard the complaints here about they are too good or their penalties are too big) most frigate pilots say, well we really need them so we can get in and out of range very quickly so we aren't taken down in 1 shot before we can do anything, and cruisers and BSs are complaining that they couldn't hit said frigate with anything to save their life once the frigates got in close with the MWDs still on. Maybe then they should make them function more like normal warp drives. IE interferance from your warp drive prevents you from doing such-and-such activity messages you get all the time. so you can't use some modules, like ABs, weapons, and so forth while using it. Still allowing for MWDs to be great for blockade runners, quick travelling between none-warp points, and approaching and leaving battles very quickly, but no longer making ships orbiting with them impossible to hit. they might be able to still orbit at insane speeds and be impossible to hit, but they wouldn't be able to do anything else while doing so. Seems like a fair compensation to me.

Edited by: Jim Steele on 10/12/2004 11:32:47 i do think they should nerf dual AB's for this as otherwise what is the point of having an interceptor. The changes did promise a nerf to dual AB use

I think 2 things need to happen for this issue to resolve completely:
1. CCP introduce x.5MN and x2MN (and possibly x5MN variants of the current AB and MWDs. So, we get .5MN, 1MN, 2MN, 5MN, 10MN, 20MN, 50MN etc.
2. Make the math on stacking multiple modules linear. So dual 1MN ABs give the same speed boost as a single 2MN module.
Then, all is groovy. We dont need multiple module penalties. Multiple module users will be trading slots for ... configurability - like using 2 small repairers in place of one medium currently.

So ships with more mid slots now have even MORE advantages, including possibly speed.
Peachy.
So we'll be seeing 2000 m/s Ravens now. Exactly what the world needed.

you can still fit oversized AB's, you'll just have to make more sacrifices to your equipment to do so.
and you can still use frigates. You just have to fit mwd's. Like everyone did before the oversized AB trick became popular.
And AB's suck less. one AB is now the equivalent of three old ones.
I'd still prefer midsize AB's and MWD's though. Although balancing 8-12 new sizes of AB/MWD is gonna take a while. .

DeFood's suggestion is a good one =|
Easy to do, to (1mn ab = 10 mw, .5 mn ab = 5 mw, 2mn AB = 20 mw, etc.), I imagine.
