I'm a care bear I admit it; (I loath PvP) However, I wanted some NPC pirate action that were not frigates and their ilk, so I headed into the local Low-Sec to hunt me some Cruisers, Battle Cruisers, and avoid Battleships if possible.
I killed a fair number of pirates, making the loop though low-sec, when I knew in hind sight I felt way to ****y to be here anymore. So I headed deeper into the low-sec, exploring around and found some nice asteroid fields with a good population of battle crusier type pirates.
When to my dismay, up on the scanner pops an Ishkur. Up to this point the only thing on the scanner was transport ships and the like so I wasn't too worried.
The Ishkur was about 70km away and I was engaging the local wildlife with my Ogre's when the Ishkur got to close for comfort. I send the message to the Orges to return to ship, so I could warp out.
Well, on alignment, I got stuck on a 0m asteroid and I swore a little and said, well you've been a good ship. I tried to log out, and log back in, that didn't work. I was f'd.
Well, I started a conversation with my would be predator just to see what was up. My death was what was up. Ok, I'm in PvP space in a PvE fit I think to myself - I'm toast. Align for the gate and spam so I don't get podded.
Millions of things running through my head, my poor clones implants head too. How was my death going to go down. Would it be quick and painless. Long and drawn out. I looked forward to finding out.
Well, at around 1.5km he launched is drones, locked on and opened fire. I took steps to ensure my hardeners were on (not that they may help), damage control was on, and armor repairs were going. Now I have a cap stable build and I wasn't too sure how that was going to work out in PvP. Since PvP seems to run opposite what you would do in PvE.
I'm tanking the damage ok, and it looks to me like we could keep doing this dance until they shut the servers down; however, that is a long time from now.
I didn't have a full complement of light drones left, so I couldn't track him to kill him with the rail guns. Medium drones and heavy drones were next to useless on him due to his speed.
So at some point I was going to lose this little fight and it was only a matter of time. TO his credit he was nosing me, but I'm stable so the Nos is pointless to an affect.
Either he let me go, or his warp scamble finally ended because after a few minutes I was able to warp out with my ship and life intact.
BUT! I have this darn 15 minute timer on me now and can't use the flipping gate to escape. He attacks me, I attack back and I'm punished for it.. WHAT?
I hop from location to location, actually went to the same spot as him once, but was able to warp out before he could stick me. This continued for 15 minutes, my heart pounding, even sleepers aren't this pervasive I'm thinking to myself.
When the timer was up I waited a minute and then headed to the gate at 0 warp in. spammed the jump and continued until I was clear of low-sec.
I returned home to base, safety, but with a little bruised ego to be sure.
I hold nothing over my attacker. This is eve, a PvP game in which us PvE players have a style of play which often finds overlapping areas but all in all, it was a learning experience.
In our conversations that followed, they seemed nice enough and I'd like to think that shall we meet again he wont try to kill me. But, this is EVE and you can't assume anything.

Carebear decides to go ratting in low/null sec... carebear gets engaged by stupid pirate... stupid pirate caps out and carebear escapes... carebear THINKS he cannot use the jumpgates because he has a 15 minute aggression timer... carebear runs around like a headless chicken for 15 minutes until the timer is gone... carebear lives.
Sad story really. _______________________

I'm not really sure why people are afraid to read a few words. It really doesn't speak well for the community that a story is too long to read.
However, I do like this summary though . I love the in-the-know blunt recap that is EVE's way of judging merit.
This is such a fun place to be in.

He fought the guy back and then could not jump due to another 15m-timer, this time being on him. At least that is how I read it. --

Well, i could be the friendly pvper around:
first of all: the agression timer dont stop you from using gates, if its red its a GCC and jumping to highsec is suicide, if its yellow its local aggression timer, in this case maybe from the rats ( NPC pirates ) not the ishkur.
secound; well you lived to carebear another day, but dont bet on being so lucky every time.
third: C&P preferder blood and tears, if you dont die or dont whine, people dont really pay attention
fourth: i am bored and just felt like writing this
fifth: just cause

So very true.
OP did a nice job writing his encounter up, but C&P posters are the equivalent of little old ladies who demand that every movie end happily. C&P's happy ending requires a non-PVPer getting stomped and crying. A PVP story where a pirate couldn't hack it is doomed to be commented up by negative spam.

Sounds you had fun. Or at least an 'exciting gameplay experience' and learned a lot of things. That is all that counts. It's hard to get your blood pumping like that in high sec. Help us to make parrots game related today! |

What is more sad is that your rude and don't really pay attention - or you don't know the game you pride yourself on to be rude to people towards.
If I'm ratting, I'll obviously have the aggression timer for 15 minutes cause of that, but that count down timer does not stop you from using a gate. What stopped me is the 15 minute timer on aggression of the other player. I tried to jump out, the gate was my first jump. The gate said I couldn't leave due to my recent aggressive action and it named the player.
Now, if you don't have to wait the 15 minutes to jump, and you only have to wait a minute that wasn't stated anywhere. Sure would have been nice to know, as I don't recall reading that little tidbit anywhere on the forum or on the screen.

It certainly was much more stressful, missions and pirates usually are not very 'exciting', but this encounter regardless of how craptastic the player may have been was much more stressful than any level mission I've ran in the Myrmidon.

Well I dont doubt he was a noob pirate, his employment listings make a pretty solid picture of his play time in Eve and as much as he may have been a noob in this instance, that was probably more related to the fact that he was just getting back into the game. As for myself I have 2.9m SP, so I'm young but not noobish in ignorance of the reality that is EVE.
I didn't come here to cry or to peition my ship back. Should I have lost the ship I'd have accepted that fate.

Edited by: Vera Coen on 04/06/2010 20:01:40 You have a GCC if you start a fight in low sec. It will show up in red instead of yellow. If however you've been shooting a player that shot you first and warp to a gate the gate is not going to let you jump for a minute due to "recent acts of aggression". You can still have the timer though and jump around just fine, after that 1 minute grace period has ended.

This is sort of why everyone is mocking you. You only need to wait 60 seconds after a hostile action to dock or jump through a gate.
The fact that you thought the 15 minute agro timer was a gate timer and spent 15 minutes flying around the system is hilarious. The apparent bumbling and inability to catch you a second time on the part of the ishkur pilot makes it even funnier.
Anyway, glad to hear you had some excitement in lowsec. Next time fit some blasters + a warp scram and you might be able to kill the guy

sure in hind sight it is funny, but how would I know about a special gate timer without "knowing" about it. I never have seen it mentioned in the timer information before.

Well it's there and surprisingly it's even documented: Combat Agression. Maybe you've heard of station games? It happens because of the same timer.

Just a quick word of advice for posting in C&P: It's best not try and argue your case if you are not aware of game mechanics that are clearly defined if you wanted to go and look at them.
Try more PVP though, you'll soon get addicted :)

and in the myrmidon you should of stayed at 0 on gate and waited untill it let you through (after 30secs from your last agression actually using a offensive module/drones on a player).

If you'd read the links provided by previous posters, you'd realize that the 30 second timer is what's called a "Session Timer". You have to wait for the 60 second "Aggression Timer" to end before you can use gates/dock. Linkage for convenience.
