I'm fairly new and I have been watching the tourney today. I noticed there are barely any Amarr ships being used - despite the couple Abaddons and curses.
I was just wondering why this is the case? Was it ignorant of me to train in Amarr ships? Is there some disadvantage that I don't know about?
Or are they saving using Amarr ships for later in the tourney?

Well you just named the only amarr ships worth a damn for pvp over other races ships in the same class.

Funny tbh all I have seen is caldari trash, apparently someone did something 'cool' with a Tengu last tourny and now everyone is in boring low dps caldari crap.
Think its time active tanking gets a buff -- Emo TraderJohn's Number 1 Fan!! |

I'd say right now most alliances will be playing reasonably safe and for that they want as much utility on the field as possible, along with points denial. While Amarr ships are rather good at DPS and tanking (buffer or active) they have one big weakness and that's a chronic lack of midslots. Every midslot counts and with Amarr ships you know you won't have many, hence their lower numbers.
The Curse has plenty of them, but it's a dedicated electronic warfare platform for a reason.
Once the knock-out phases come around you'll see that more Amarr ships will be fielded as then their damage output will be more useful with less emphasis on utility midslots. (since you either win and go through or lose and go home. Points denial and such no longer matter)

How do you watch the tournament? I'm new too and had no idea there was a tournament let alone you could watch it!

Tourney PVP is not "real" PVP.
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |

I must admit, I only watched the first few rounds. I don't care an awful lot about the outcome of it all but I watch it for entertainment and the amount of buffer/passive low DPS Caldari ships (Drakes, Tengus and Vultures) bored me to the point where I almost fell asleep.

The second to last was my favorite. That Scimitar Pilot deserves a medal for hero tanking that Sleipnir...

This. Alliance tournament is not an indication for TQ. Just try to pull off on TQ what you saw in the tourney. Good luck.

Perhaps not. But; * it's far more entertaining to be in and to watch * You're guaranteed a fight * It's against another gang similar to your side so no unfair blobs * there's no crippling lag due to the small numbers involved * Prizes
Did I mention it's entertaining?
