Okay I have a nice NPC setup that won't break the bank. High: 5 x tach I 1 x light missle launcher (named if possible) 2 x named NOS
Med: 2 x cap recharger II (or named, reg's prob won't cut it but you may be able to get away with it by going into defensive mode and not firing anymore for a bit) 1 x target painter II 1 x ab II (could prob use another cap rech or heat sink or something but I like having a little extra speed)
Low: 1600mm tungsten or nano (I like the extra breathing room - over 10k hitpoints on armor) 2 x cap relays 1 x active thermal hardener 1 x active em hardener 1 x large armor rep (named or tech II would really be best) 1 x med tech II (still gives good repair but helps with cap)
MUST have drones. I like to mix between the three sizes. Don't carry only what you can use. I can launch 8 at the moment but I carry 11 (by mixing sizes) in case I lose a couple.
With this setup I let a dual bs spawn, one with heavy missles, and a couple of cruisers and frigs bombard me and they couldnt even dent the armor.

I think I have replied to this before but I think Tachs are a very good gun to use. I've tried mega pulse and I can't stand them. This is what I have for NPCing: Hi: 5 modulated tachs 1 assault launcher (for frigs or defender missles) 2 heavy diminishing NOS
Med: 2 cap rech II 1 eutectic cap rech (I am looking to acquire a third cap rech II) 1 100NM ab II (I need the speed cause I get in real close to fight and cause I like to pick up loot fast)
Low: 1 cap relay 1 power diag I (this is new for me cause I'm trying the two heavy NOS. I think once I get advanced weapons upgrades to lvl 5 I may be able to get rid of this and go back to another cap relay) 2 therm hard II and one em hard II or one of each of those and a heat sink II 1 large rep II 1 med rep II
And of course drones (I prefer med since patch)
With this setup I've taken out 3 Dark Lord spawn with no prob. I have also taken out a True Sansha Dark Lord without breaking a sweat. I usually run the hardeners and med rep and only use large rep when needed. You can run the two reps together while firing for a good while if you are NOSing something. Without the heat sink I have gotten over 800 damage with regular Tachs...I'm expecting bigger things with the Modulated Tachs.

Tachs are the best. Mega beams are okay. Pulses just plain suck. Pretty good NPC setup. 6 Modulated Tachs, 2 standard/assault launchers. Missles on an Apoc you ask, YES. I'll tell you why. Two reasons: first, annoying frigs that get in close before you can pop them while they're far. Second, don't underestimate the power of defender missles or FOF missles if you get surprised my a Scorp or Raven. If you feel uncomfortable with this use some heavy NOS. Maybe 1 NOS and a tractor beam for fast loot pickup. They don't affect NPC's but you can tank forever while draining a frig. Meds: 3 cap rech II and an AB. Can go with 4 cap rech II but I like the speed. Lows: 1 large t2 and 1 med t2 rep, 2-3 active hardeners, 2-3 heat sink II, 1 CPR (mix and match till you're happy). With this setup you can take out any triple spawn or officer spawn and tank 24/7 while running everything. This is only true if your skills are pretty high and you may need the NOS running. Oh and don't forget to take drones. 7 med drones is better than 3 large or 25 small. 7 are nice in case you lose 1 or 2.

Korrey, I believe you have a valid point on the person asking probably not being able to fly the intensive setup yet, although this may not be totally true. That being said, along with the plethora of people giving basic setups I believe that once in a while someone should give a more advanced setup to give the new person guidance on training and such. The advanced setup will also help the more seasoned pilot that also likes to look at these message boards (myself included). About the pulses. Well yes they are good close range but for NPCing that doesn't matter much. If you just "approach" the hostile BS (the AB allows for this) so that transversal is low you will get much higher hits. I have had hits with my modulated tachs of over 900 hp with a single heat sink II. It is a little different form of NPCing. It's a little more involved than just sitting and changing crystals to match the hostile ships optimals but I think it works well for clearing out systems. This is only true if you take out the frigs and cruisers first.
