I think it would be coon if we gave gravimetric sites some flair. And gave some true bonuses to mining.
While I think that gravimetric sites now are working, and allowing players to access more exotic ores. Mining doesn't have the same occurrences like with ratting. And thet by adding some extra bits miners can get the equivalent of a ratter faction or commander spawn, and maybe some escalation type scenarios aswell
Enter Super Veldspar! In my mind the mining equivalent of a faction spawn would be to have some asteroids spawn with special ores inside. Lets say for example you go to mine a simple veldspar roid in a gravimetric prospecting site. When you look to check your cargo you see that instead of have mined super-veldspar, super-veldspar has 10x the mineral density as regular veldspar. So you end up getting a quick boost in yield, without having to boost the logistics behind your mining operation.
How would this work? I have no idea how CCP handles mining asteroids. But I see mining like taking stuff from a can, except you cant open the can. And the mining beam tractors the contents into your hold. The attributes which tell you what is in the roid, are actually telling you whats in the can. So why cant we add other things into that can to be sucked out by our mining beam?
So roid scanners would still list the same info, they would only tell you the equivalent amount of stuff you should get from the roid. The only way to know if there are special goodies inside is if you start mining it.
Enter Ore Veins Ore veins are the equivalent of an escalation, and have a chance of happening when you mine an exploration belt, with a much greater chance if you are mining some of that super-veldspar . Ore veins would remain in the same system. There would be 3 types of escalation you can recieve. One where you just find a new belt, another where you find a new belt, and find pirates already mining it (think hauler spawns ), and a third type where your run into a full-fledged pirate mining operation, in which you get some ore, but will probably need combat ships to take care of the rats first, with the rats having a chance to drop some special mining gear.
