Very well, I'm in. Been running it anonymously for a while, but now I'm signed up with the team and ready to go!
And now that there's a GPU3 client I'll try that one as well, but since my GPU fan is noisy as hell it probably won't be running 24/7...

Originally by: Derik Wildstar Might try the SMP client again but last I checked it wasn't as efficient as installing and running multiple clients.
Running the SMP right now, seems to be on par with multiple clients. I think I'll go back to the latter method, not being able to throttle it down is a bit of a bummer, I don't want to run it at 100% when I'm actually using the computer (heat -> noise).
Sure, I can set the -smp [n] flag, but that kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it..? Seems better to run the normal clients on 2-3 cores and fire up the rest when I go afk.
Also, good thing I went for an nVidia card then, works like a charm (about 10 points per minute \o/ ) and runs very quietly if I throttle it down to 75% or so. If only they would hand out more packets... Maybe there's a problem, maybe the test projects are done and they're about to roll out some other projects. In either case, I need more work for my F@H e-peening!

Originally by: Kazuo Ishiguro This client only really shines with rather expensive multicore i5 / i7 processors. If you do go down that route, a dedicated Xeon box can actually outperform the GPU client on most measures.
As a matter of fact I do have an i7; a 960. Kind of an insane purchase really, I'm not running anything else that comes close to maxing that thing. So f@h is a nice way of justifying getting it...
I must admit that I haven't tested different f@h setups that extensively yet and you may be right that SMP is better than the others. Still, the difference doesn't seem to be that huge. I'll keep running it and see if the logs show anything. (see what I did there?)

Indeed I do, and the 960 doesn't have a chance to keep up, what with GPU work units being the way they are (611 points, takes about an hour to complete).
Still haven't bothered to compare the regular CPU client to SMP unfortunately and I'm currently out of town for a couple of days (which is why I'm racking up so many points now). Maybe when I get back I'll muster the strength to take a closer look at it. (yeah, right )

And there it is: 1000! \o/
Not sure where we'll level out with the teams ahead of us, but it seems to be a long way to go still.
Unfortunately I've decided to take a break, to say that it's hot enough as it is would be an understatement and I don't need my computer making it worse. Hopefully it'll cool down a bit soon... (and spare me the snarky comments about Swedish summer weather not being hot at all compared to Whereeveryouliveistan - it's well over 40 C hotter than it was six months ago and I honestly preferred that)
But rest assured Kazuo, I'm coming for you. First place will be mine!

Bumping this back to the first page...
Also, I'm back in business, at least for the time being.

Originally by: Irulan S'Dijana Due to laziness (and being at work), what client should I get with:
i7 920 & ATI HD5850 Toxic?
Also, how much bandwidth does this take? I'm in lol-stralia, where we still have monthly download limits.
As far as I know you should go with the GPU2 client for your ATI card and the SMP for your i7, both of which are available here.
As for bandwidth, it looks like I need about 8+1 MiB per day for CPU+GPU when they run at 100% all day. You probably wont do that (neither do I) and hopefully that'll be within your bandwidth budget.

Friend? Not to me he bloody isn't! He's a competitor as far as I'm concerned and unless I pick up the pace I'll fall far, far behind.
