I find it funny how everyone is telling the OP "no they're not! S/HTFU!", when they've quite explicitly have said, for quite some time now, that yes, they are trying to figure out how to get rid of the learning skillsą

Originally by: Furb Killer Yes you have to make the choice between making the game stupidly boring or getting even more behind others. Thats a great choice, luckily we have it in this game, would suck if you could just skip the stupidly boring part that doesnt add anything.
I'm pretty much with this point of view. I'm now at the point of it not affecting me and have almost all advanced learning skills at lvl 5. I would gladly give up this little extra advantage for getting rid of the stupid learning skills. They really add nothing to the game and have a negative impact on the early parts of a new players career.
As for losing the choice. You would still have remapping and implants to retain some choice, but this time the choice would actually be meaningful instead of choosing between two bad options, both of which are unnecessary to even have in the game.

Sometimes I have the strange feeling that everyone who's in favour of learning skills is actually just trolling for the sake of it

There is no skills race. And to prove it, I switched off my skill training. I'll make a pseudopedo sig about it shortly.

Oh please you dont need to train learning skills up right away, I didn't. I was about 3 months in before I even trained up the 1st tier learning skills to lvl 3 or 4 and that didnt take that long. I know for the longest time I didnt bother with the lvl 5 of the 1st tier learning skills cause someone figured out to get back in the time it took to train the skill I would have to play like 4 yrs.
Well ok I have played more then 4 yrs and back when I started there wasnt even the tier 2 of learning skills, they didnt come along until later. Even though I didnt get around to even thinking about training the learning skills until months and months into me playing, can anyone honestly say my training is gimped? or I am behind?
Sure if I had trained them all right away (if we would have had the tier 2 learning skills back then)I might have more like 135 mil sp instead of the 120 mil I got now.... no big loss. Not having the learning skills trained up right away didnt turn me off the game as I have been playing 7+ yrs and I certainly dont think having to train them has gimped my chars training.
I dont think removing them is bad as long as I get compensated for the time. After all if ppl are going to whine about having to train them then I guess I should whine about any lost sp for their removal.
I swear the game has changed but the group of ppl that play it has changed just as much. Most players dont seem to have the patience that this game requires. Dont worry its not a race, put your time in and you will get to the same place as us bitter old vets have. I didn't join Eve to try to race to the end game in a couple of months like other games try to get you to do, Eve doesnt hand you whatever you want just because you think you should have it.
I never thought I would be playing Eve this long but one of the things that has kept me playing is the nice steady pace of the game. I have grown to like that it takes a long time to get places it makes the game more attractive if you chose to play for the long haul.

Political answer much
"we're totally going to do something soon(tm)"
basically those for it hear "they're working on it" those agaisnt hear "I don't have to worry about it for a while"
everybody's happy.
still... that shows me for skim reading and then posting, I'm sure It'll never happen again :D
I'm, still in the "if you want them, work for them" camp when it comes to anything in eve tbh. You can't peanolise players that found the game at the start because new players find it "unfair" that they turned up late. Plus, it's not like new players can't catch up with old players, it's all down to what you train for. --

Cool story: Tried for months to get my best friend in Eve. Every game is a competition for him, but I managed to convince him that the skillpoints gap between us won't be an issue: only a limited amount of SP's actually used when flying a ship, he can specialize and have better skills on some ships... blah blah you know the song. But then, he realized that to keep that SP gap not increasing, he had to train for 2.5M SP in learning skills before anything else.
I told him to play Warhammer a few month more and keep the account active. Welcome to EVE

Since we currently have a nine page thread in the Skills sub forum this thread is pretty much a duplicate. Please continue the discussion there.

Learning Skills are stupid, I say this having my Adv learning to 5 and 33 perception
IMO Learning skills should be seperate from normal skills. That is, you can do both at the same time but while training learning, your standard skills train slower. Learning would always train at full speed, so there would be no reason to not be training a normal skill (unlikely what we have currently with people feeling they need to get all Adv Learning to 4 before they can train anything else)

Is it true CCP is looking into ways of removing learning skills?
If it is, what is CCP really thinking?

Learning skills are one of the by far most idiotic and stupid things they added to this game. Things like this would be an outrage and completely shat upon if it was in any other video game, I don't know why it's tolerated here. Taking days out of your training time for other more useful skills just to train something that makes you train faster, it's just idiotic.
I suggest that they simply remove the learning skills all-together and just give a set number of attribute points to all players like every other game does. Implants are fine. Just get rid of the stupid effing learning skills!
