Edited by: themule on 12/12/2004 02:38:14 No... UT and Q3 are both frist person shooters which makes it pointless. But homeworld is an RTS, so it wouldn't just be a redo of the same.

How about a Homeworld 2 ships mod for Eve? (ignore, its the wine talking)
Your idea sounds cool, sending a few wings of Merlins and Kestrels, targeting Megathron engines and weapons.... neat
(sorry to interupt, I am not a modder)

Lallante,
I'd consider using Nexus: The Jubiter Incident as the base for your mod.
It's a lot easier to mod and has a far more flexible system

The UI is modable, too.
HW2 is very difficult to mod in many ways - doing anything remotely interesting with subsystems involves an IMMENSE amount of work.
With Nexus, it's really, really simple

Since we're going off the deep end... I wish they would have just left it imperium galactica 3. The second one was one of the best empire building games I've played.
Yes, Nexus (or the imperium galactica 3 engine) looks way better than HW2 IMHO. You should check out the demo.
Not offering my skills, just advice. :)

To be honest, found Nexus interface a pleasure to work with after couple of missions... while Eve interface in Shiva still manages to irritate me every now and then with its 'gotcha!' moments. >.<
Eve mod for Nexus could be cool -- no more of the battlehips flying around with stupid speeds, small ships can actually roll out of enemy fire, and being able to target and disable separate modules adds to fun. ^^

Homeworld 2 can look very nice! If you have HW2 then I'd highly recommend you download, install and try a mod called "Point Defense System". It goes by another name too but that one should help you find what I'm talking about. It's by no means perfect but it adds a lot of things to HW2 mainly additions to cruisers' defensive systems to aid it in fighting off frigates and fighters which is a good thing in my books. I could never figure out why a huge cruiser could be defeated by a few swarms of bombers without being able to effectively fight back. I don't know if they also polished the graphics a little for it but it looks very nice in my opinion :)

I have to admit tho that I LOVE the thrusters of Nexus... ya the UI is crap... but again LOOK at the thruster ...
The whole propulsion system is AWESOME...
and exactly the propulsion system in eve is rather crappy... and I already take the "new" changes into account...
currently its a speed race... if this gets sorted out I would be really happy... (btw the "new" patch WILL NOT solve this issue)

"yes, espesialy as the Miths SCREWED UP THE ORIGINAL game... and made some stupid nexus, it was supose to be IG3 "
Wasn't it the other way around? Thought the game was originally going to be what it's like now, then the publisher was trying to shape it into IG game so it'd sell better, and after they lost interest in the whole deal the devs went back to their original design... o.O

Shrug.
Fact remains..
HW2 was built in 11 months. While it has a powerful programatic approach to a lot of things, what you can actually DO with the engine is limited and it is overly complex to work with in a lot of places (such as models).
Nexus is, perhaps, less immediately approachable but there is a LOT more depth to it, and once you're familar with it you will be able to do more interesting mods for less effort than a HW2 mod would require.

Wouldn't be a proper HW2 mod unless you add a "Pod Pilot" resource. I mean, we all know that getting the ships isn't the problem in EVE, it's getting the pilots...

Edited by: Chade Malloy on 12/12/2004 16:56:38 I would consider to use Nexus:TJI too for its easy mod-ability, but on the other hand has HW2 a vast modding community, which helps cause its not easy to mod, as others have already pointed out. Btw are you going to re-build EVE ships from scratch or are you trying to extract them from the .res files? I wouldnŠt bother with the last one, cause it seems the actuall models are hard coded into the engine after they have been build (i think they made them with maya, the files are in the .res files, but there is no way to open them) and imho there is no way to extract them without knowing the source code for the engine. You have however access to the textures...
Patience wins. |

Nexus would make a FAR more visualy pleasing mod base but like the man said you will get more help from HW2 moders.
OO and the ship models are technicaly part of the eve copyright so you may wan't to atleast ask the devs if they don't mind you converting them aslong as you atribute the models to the eve developers.

I remember HW2 being extremely hard to mod. It took Typo weeks to make his Ex mod, and that was using only ships/models in the SP and moving them to MP.

HW2-EVE sounds good... Nexus wouldnt be as fun. u cant build ships ur just given a bunch of ships to command at the start.. thats kinda boring imo. BTW nexus actually started out as IG3 got changed into Galaxy andromeda, then got canceled. Mithis then bought all the Galaxy Andromeda stuff and made Nexus out of it.. kinda sucks i would rather have seen a Imperium Galactica 3.
I think it would also be cool to make a Homeworld 2 to eve t:C with multiplayer capablities, i have modding experiance for HW and HW:C but not for HW2, but as far as the tools go it actually seems easier compared to modding HW and HW:C.
who knows if this mod actually gets going for HW2 it might bring back some glory to the game. :D

Anyone who can make ships for HW2, can do so for Nexus too. Trust me on that one.
The scripting for Nexus is also more intuitive for those of us who are scriptors rather than programers

Yes it's sad about IG3... I still fire up the demo every once and a while and watch the movie mode... makes a great screensaver.
It woulda been more like IG1 anyway (minus the bugs) and not like the ground-breaking IG2 (which I would still play if you could run it at more than 800x600).
Anyway, best of luck on this project... sounds like it'd be a lot of fun to work on.
And for the "name the most buggy game that you could almost play" contest: afterbirth of the federation...

A HW2 eve mod would be so kickass it's impossible to describe.
Imagine, as one poster said, a few swarms of tristans swirling around your megathron fleet, supported by a few thoraxes...
You could make 4 races...and have entire fleets of mostly small ships and a few larger ones.
(One of the unrealistic things about eve...be good to play with proper big ship:little ship ratios. )

A HW2 eve mod would be so kickass it's impossible to describe.
Imagine, as one poster said, a few swarms of tristans swirling around your megathron fleet, supported by a few thoraxes...
You could make 4 races...and have entire fleets of mostly small ships and a few larger ones.
(One of the unrealistic things about eve...be good to play with proper big ship:little ship ratios. )
